Like you, I have been smoking on my balcony for years. Also like you, my consumption is not over the top.
As the OP, I note that the groups of young Russians that I believe were the reason for the signs in my building have resumed smoking in groups of 3-5 in larger common areas with no apparent consequences..
Thailand.
Well, that's what I though too, balcony is fine. However, condo still trying to enforce "no smoking on balcony" (weed and cigarettes).
No sure if it's legal.
Anyway, the neighbor who complained brought the subject during the annual owner meeting (which happened every year). Luckily she is in the condo below me and all the other owner told her it couldn't come from me since the smoke is going up not down so it couldn't be me.
No more complain since that ????

Similar situation in my condo. They put no weed/no smoking sign in the elevator.
I've been smoking on my balcony long before it became legal and never got any complain.
Recently, a neighbor complained to management, they contacted me and I told them that it wasn't me.Where am I supposed to smoke if I can't on balcony ? inside ? It will be way worse and smell will go in the common area.
Anyway, I doubt they can do anything unless they can prove I smoke on my balcony (innocent until proven guilty).
I'm not a huge smoker (only smoke 1 or 2 joint every evening and during the weekend) and I'm careful where I exhale the smoke.

Finding a reliable electrician in Bangkok can sometimes be a bit tricky, but it's great that you're willing to invest in quality work. To ensure you get the job done properly, you might want to consider hiring a certified electrician rather than a handyman. An entry-level position as an electrician helper is often the starting point for those who eventually become certified electricians. They undergo training and gain valuable experience, which is crucial for ensuring the job is done right. You're on the right track by seeking a professional for your condo's electrical problems.
Not sure to get your point. But anyway, my AC cleaner did the job so I'm no longer in need of an electrician.

I needed a competent leccy some little time back. Went to the local PEA office. Asked if any of their staff were qualified leccys. Happened a guy in the planning department was available for after hour work. Spoke pretty good english & his work was exceptional. Just a thought for you.
That is actually a great idea, PEA office is just next to my condo, I will as the GF to go and ask.
Thanks a lot.

Sorry I don't have an answer. I have some recent experience with people who are involved in renovations.
It seems proper companies are only interested in big jobs. I.e. if half a hotel should be renovated then they like that. If it's just one condominium or one room, then they are mostly not interested.
Then it seems the only people who are willing to do those small jobs are the handymen who would never get a big job.
And somehow some of those handymen think they can charge just like the big guys - but without the knowledge, the tools, and the service quality.
I was lucky enough to know someone in a hotel who is involved in those big jobs. And that person convinced the (hotel) contractor to work for me. Mostly I am happy with that work. I am sure I wouldn't have been able to hire that contractor by myself.
So maybe look if you know someone who is involved in bigger projects who can help you.
Good luck! You need it.
Good morning,
yes agreed, companies are only interested with big project and don't even bother to answer. -
Hello fellow Bangkokians,
not sure if it is the right forum to post (admin feel free to move my post if I'm not in the correct sub forum) but I'm looking for a competent electrician.
I have electric problems in my condo and I would like to find a professional to come inspect and make a quote to fix it.
I don't mind paying a bit more if I'm sure that the job is done properly (I don't want a handyman who will do a quick fix which might transform into bigger problem later).
Thanks.

Almost 11 years here and saw only one old farang (50 years+) getting beat up by 4/5 ladyboy on walking street. Didn't see what started the fight.
I have been involve in only one tricky situation, on the highway between chon buri and bangkok, a lunatic minivan driver didn't like that I overtake him and the car in front of him before he does, he chased me and hit the break when he was ahead of my car, casually stop and go out of van (on the right lane) with other car driving 100+km/h on middle and left lane.
He didn't have any weapon with him so I just fake a phone call to police and he left as casually as he stopped.

Hi,
I personally recommend Alchemi botanics (close to W market) and weed express (BTS phra khanong).
More expensive than online buying but I found really decent weed there (depends on the week though).

Anyone gearing up to play WoW Classic? Would be fun if we could get a guild together. Not looking for anything particularly serious, just a group that has fun and helps each other out. I'm probably gonna play Alliance on the Australian PVP server.
I've been playing on Arugal (AUS server), ping isn't too bad. But I'm for the horde !

I didn't read but they probably need all their employee in the same bank (in my factory we all have BBL account) so they can transfer the payroll easily !
Just open a KBANK account by yourself and give her the number, it should be fine !

Where ? What do they do ?
For exemple me, arrived a 23. Work in big manufacture company (over 300 persons) as a manager, 4 years already, very good salary. Will change job soon to get more experience (they call me, I wasn't looking). My ambition is to have my own company in the next 10 years.
So what sort of advice would you give another 23 year old wanting to work in Asia. Would you say to them the sky is the limit in Thailand, opportunities galore ? Would you say there are better opportunities here than say China or Indonesia for manufacturing ?
Somebody earlier mentioned a tremendous decline of expatriate workers in Thailand, and it is true. There are some wonderful pearls in Thailand, but it has been better to deal with Thailand from the outside of its borders.
When you open your Thai business, be sure to open up a Hong Kong or Singapore bank account when accepting overseas payment.
The advice I would give is, get a diploma and a first experience abroad before going to asia (I spent a year studying in England so it helped me to speak better english). Then don't come here because you liked the 2 weeks you spent here during holidays and look all asian country (personally I was looking in Vietnam at the begining and I was contacted to work in Thailand). And the last advise would be to work as much as possible at the begining, I know plenty of factory with foreign boss which are looking for good foreign managers.

The wisest use of time is spent with hardworking, productive Thais. The expat community in Bangkok never struck me is large nor dynamic. Given the current situation, it will probably shrink more.
I think a lot of the retired crowd don't realise how many younger working expats there are in Bangkok - they don't drink in the same bars, they don't post on the same forums, and you probably just assume they're tourists when you do see them around, but they exist in large numbers.

Thailand is full of retirees mostly. Few work in Thailand as it is not allowed or overly complicated. Thailand is to be avoided if you have drive and ambition.
You couldn't be more wrong...

In 11 years i have never been to Pattaya. Nor do i wish to. Im not knocking it, but it's not really my idea of a fun place.
I have a friend who finds this fact unbelievable.
Your post is in the wrong topic. "What are the biggest lies farang tell each other?" is the right one !
"No Weed" signs have appeared in my Condo building..

There is no such thing as addiction with weed. I have much more trouble stopping eating sugar...
Overall, I probably spend less than 10mn on my balcony smoking every night (2/3 puff multiple times).
I can't see how I can be a nuisance for neighbors unless they keep windows open (and in that case pollution will be a bigger nuisance than me in the busy street I live).
