  1. Penang has a new consulate and is 100% back to normal no problems no worries no red stamps A-OK!

just replying to this directly as it might email you to reply.

"I suspect you mean Penang has a new Consul rather than Consulate?" lopburi3

i will presume that means person rather than building????? and if not, so has it moved ? if so, how do you know, not bieng funny, just like to know, also you say "100% back to normal no problems no worries no red stamps A-OK!" again how do you know this and again not bieng funny but people could travel a long way on this information.

    cheers

  2. Thank you.

I keep reading of a 10 day extention.

Is this now out of date? 10 idays is now 7

    Quote from visa run site=

yep i used to get 15 days, but it all chnged in october 2006 i think it was, i just tried googling it but to no avail, but honest it is now 7 for all apart from tourists visa i think!

so the options are as listed is 7 just not enough?

    chris

    Thanks for you help Chris.

The advise is actually for my son who is in Chiang Mai (travelled early from OZ, hense no planning for the extra 10 days) and I am freezing in the UK!

I have trawled through miles of information.

The 7 + 3 days fine may be an option but being a soft parent and after reading 'The Bangkok Hilton' I'm slightly worried!

well, if its ya son and he came here early, he may go late, its a little bit better than the brouchures.

advice, leave him to sort his mess out its part of growing up!

on the other hand take thanyaburimac's advice

"do a visa run over to Chieng Khong on the border and go over to Laos, turn around and come back for a new 30-day chop"

seems the best choice, i day traveling sightseeing meeting people, into another country and back all legal and gives him a bit more in case time!

    all the best

    chris

  4. I'm looking at purchasing the new Nokia 6600 folding mobile phone. It is a new model and I've read varying reports as to whether it is yet available in Thailand. Has anyone seen this model? I only found one link in Thailand that displays this model in it's catalog.

    http://www.siamphone.com/catalog/nokia/6600_fold.htm

    Thanks,

    Pattayadavid

i have never seen or heard of a Nokia 6600 untill i saw this post, it is a nice phone reminded me of the 6131 i bought last year, well nice phone unfortunatly it couldnt do the basic things of connecting easily with a computor and the more i looked the more many was having sync or similar problems!

i just googled "Nokia 6600 problem" to see if it had a good write up and it instantley put me off, in fact i was glad when my mate spilt a bottle of chang on it!

  5. Travelling originally for total 30 days now 40 before flight to uk.

Have 30 day stamp, need to add 10 days

Visiting Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Samui and Phuket ETC

Searched web for hours still no clearer (latest advise go from Samui to Malasia, seems a bit extreme)

Advise of how, what and where would be fantastic.

the max, you can get on a 30 day visit from memory is 7 days and you should be able to get this at an immigration office click below for list

    http://www.thaivisa.com/immigration_phone.0.html

now you might be able to overstay 3 days after that, and should not really get you into trouble you would pay a fine of 500 bhat a day 3 days 1500, plus your 7 day extention would be 1900 so say 3500 should cover it that way if deff needed.

the advice you are given ref malaysia is the expected way if you like and not a bad choice of the 2 if you are near a border.

one more thing some borders are asking for an onward journey tiket, and i havent been that border so cant help you but the cambodia side you can get around this with 200 bhat

top search box on this page type border run malaysia or similar and youll get lots of posts and tips etc

    good luck

    and

  6. SINGAPORE, June 1 (Reuters) - Malaysia will decide on Tuesday on a new mechanism for fuel subsidies and when to implement curbs on foreign motorists buying fuel at Malaysian petrol stations, the country's deputy prime minister said on Sunday.

Najib Razak said the government would discuss a subsidy scheme for pump sales in a meeting scheduled on Tuesday, delaying an earlier proposal to ban sales to foreigners at local prices which are subsidised.

"We have to find a new effective date. Because there are other matters like for example can we have we have two separate pump prices," Razak told reporters on the sidelines of a security conference in Singapore.

Malaysia had earlier said filling stations in its towns bordering Singapore and Thailand would from Monday be temporarily barred from selling fuel to foreign-registered vehicles in a move aimed at curbing the abuse of subsidies.

Hundreds of Thai and Singapore motorists cross into Malaysia daily to seek cheaper diesel and petrol.

Razak said the government wants to implement a new fuel subsidy scheme to ensure that only Malaysians receive the subsidies.

"The whole intention is to rationalise the subsidy scheme. And when we rationalise the subsidy scheme we have to agree on what set of principles to use," he said.

"We will go on two premises. First of all those people who really need subsidies will be entitled to use the subsidy and those who can afford to pay near market prices then they should pay higher prices. So the system is a fairer system and should also be designed to discourage wastage and abuse." (Reporting by Ovais Subhani; Editing by Jan Dahinten)

  7. Travel Picks: Ten top new hotels around the world

    Sat May 31, 2008 11:34pm IST

SYDNEY (Reuters Life!) - Looking for a hotel that really stands out from the crowd? Travel magazine Travel + Leisure has come up with its third annual list of the top 30 best new hotels of 2008 with ten of these listed below.

The "It" list is compiled by editors at Travel + Leisure (http://www.travelandleisure.com) and is not endorsed by Reuters.

    1. Banyan Tree Maldives Madivaru (beach hotel)

Banyan Tree, accessible by seaplane, is built in safari style: elaborate tents, a jungle setting, and its own aquarium lapping from the shore. The price is steep, but this is a camping trip without comparison with staff to indulge your every whim.

    2. J.K. Place Capri, Italy (beach hotel)

Surely one of Europe's most stylish recent openings, this nautical design hotel feels like staying at a chic friend's house. Drink Bellinis on the terrace while watching the beach below.

    3. Mandarin Oriental Riviera Maya, Mexico (beach hotel)

One of the most anticipated hotel openings this year, the winning Mandarin formula of exemplary service, forward-reaching design, a first-rate spa-has taken root in a pristine Mexican coastal environment. Acres of mangrove forest surround 128 boxy white villas with sculptures by prominent Mexican artists, creating the most sophisticated resort on Mexico's eastern coast.

    4. Six Senses Hideaway, Yao Noi, Thailand (beach hotel)

All the beauty of a remote destination without the hassle of being entirely off the grid. On the island of Yao Noi, 45 minutes by boat from Phuket, guests are surrounded by lush jungle, tiny fishing villages, and untouched beaches. The resort has 56 villas and private plunge pools in a pristine environment.

    5. Qualia, Hamilton Island, Australia (beach hotel)

Billing itself as Australia's first seven-star hotel, Qualia has the requisite luxury trappings -- personal infinity pools, a 1,000-bottle wine cellar -- but the real stars here are architect Chris Beckingham and chef Stephane Rio, who have modernized the notion of an Australian reef resort. Airy one-bedroom pavilions combine native styles and materials with Rio using indigenous ingredients in unexpected ways.

    6. Haymarket Hotel, London (city hotel)

Kit Kemp has released an arsenal of bold colors and supergraphic effects on the former American Express London headquarters in the heart of the theater district. Kemp and her husband/business partner Tim Kemp have struck a balance between a classic English manor and a buzzy film- and-art world haunt.

    7. Regent Bal Harbour, Florida (city hotel)

Regent's first property in the United States has got the beautiful beachfront, the country's first Guerlain Spa, a $4 million art collection, but no Euro-lounge sound track pumping into the lobby. It's all about the signifiers of luxury: Anichini bedding, plasma television screens embedded in bathroom mirrors, and a dazzling crystal chandelier.

    8. Hotel Fasano, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (city hotel)

In his second property, restaurateur Rogerio Fasano has designed spare, breezy rooms environments with leather-upholstered Mies daybeds, Amazonian wood side tables.

    9. JIA Shanghai, China (city hotel)

Ensconced in a 1920's building on fashionable West Nanjing Road, the 55-room hotel adds a needed dose of boutique intimacy to the city's booming hotel scene. Its Asian-contemporary hideaway of dark wood floors, embroidered fabrics, and elegant birdcages sit alongside Knoll and Moroso furniture and free Wi-Fi.

    10. Onguma Plains, The Fort on Fisher's Pan, Etosha, Namibia (rustic hotel)

Northern Namibia is Africa's Next Great Safari Frontier, partly due its wildlife, but also because of its wealth of high-quality luxury lodges, like this camp on a private 50,000-acre game reserve, five minutes from Etosha National Park. Carved antique doors, billowy curtains, and reflecting pools, with two of each guest room's walls made of canvas and can be opened to reveal the plains like an Impressionist painting.

  8. "but the bastards had ripped the bark off a nearby coconut tree"

i would have thought them BASTARDS probably looked after that tree since long before you arrived with a few quid!!!!

one thing for sure, they know how to take care of a tree!!!

sweep the old candles up and get on with your day, they only want, and hope for a better life like food and health, not plasma tvs, big fancy houses, etc like us!

    cha cha!

  9. Crazed Malaysian cop slits Thai lover's throat

Kuala Lumpur (dpa) - A Malaysian cop, suspended for disciplinary problems, allegedly attempted to murder his Thai girlfriend by slitting her throat before attempting to run her down with his car after being jilted for another man, a news report said Sunday.

The 23-year-old victim was asleep in her bed at home in the northern state of Terengganu when her throat was slit with a machete early Saturday.

Alerted by her screams, her housemate, also a Thai national, ran to her aid and rushed her to the roadside in a bid to get help when the suspect attempted to ram the duo with his vehicle.

The vehicle skidded off the road and the suspect fractured his right leg in the accident, the News Straits Times daily reported.

Passers-by rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where she was reported to be in stable condition.

State police chief Zamri Shamsuddin said the suspect, who sped off after the incident, was arrested in a town nearby on the same day and received treatment at the same hospital as the victim.

Zamri added that police have recovered a machete and drug paraphernalia at the suspect's home.

Police have placed the man, believed to be a drug addict, under remand to assist investigations and have classified the case as attempted murder.

CALGARY - A Thai woman accused of orchestrating the slaying of her Canadian husband has been granted bail, according to the man's Alberta-based family.

Dale Henry, a 48-year-old who was born in Victoria, B.C., but spent much of his life in Calgary, was shot point-blank in the head in his home in Ranong, Thailand, on Feb. 3.

Maneerat Nee, Henry's wife of five years who was 27 at the time of the killing, is accused of hiring a hit man so she could collect on his $1-million life-insurance policy.

After being denied bail several times, Nee appealed and eventually won the right to pay around $21,000 to get out on bail, said Henry's sister, Mary-Jane Matheson, from her home outside Calgary.

The two others implicated in the killing remain in jail. Amornsak Keskaew, apparently Nee's lover, and Jinda Sae Tae, accused of being a hired hit man, are both charged in Henry's death.

Meanwhile, Henry's brother Richard is still in Thailand after court proceedings to have his dead brother's assets unfrozen were delayed by more than a month.

Matheson said she and her brother are waiting for the preliminary court dates to be set, likely for some time next month.

Meanwhile, the family of another Calgarian killed in Thailand is also awaiting news in June.

Leo Del Pinto, 25, was shot to death on Jan. 6 while he and a friend were walking home in Pai, Thailand. A Thai police officer has admitted to shooting Del Pinto, but said it was in self-defence, though eyewitness accounts said that wasn't the case.

Del Pinto's father, Ernie, said he's expecting a report next month from the Thailand Department of Special Investigation, which took over the case after concerns were raised over how Thai police were handling it.

He expects a court date to be set for the fall, and plans on heading to Thailand himself.

"I have to face this man that shot my innocent son," he said.

    Highly appreciate it!

I guess now the question begs to be answered, can anyone list the good and bad agencies?

    :D

That is like asking us to list good and bad cars....

Everyone will have an opinion and that opinion may not be the same as anothers.

You need to go and see a few and suss them out yourself.

"Everyone will have an opinion and that opinion may not be the same as anothers"

isnt that the whole idea of this forum? helpfull advice from people who may/ maynot have made a mistake or found somthing good?

  15. Why would the Thai Embassy in Hanoi care what you are doing in Vietnam and how you are leaving? They should only be concerned that you had a ticket leaving Thailand, after all, you could not use the Thai Visa unless you left Vietnam and went to Thailand.

Absurd! The were obviously very confused.

"The were obviously very confused" :o

seems to be the standard set for most Thai consuletes!

  16. I posted a thread earlier saying I have to go to DO MY TV next month. Everyone seems to go to Laos but anyone been to Cambodia to get their visa?

For me it sounds more lively than Vientianne in Phnom Penh, that's my cup of tea. While in Rome as they say.......lol.

Anyone who has been let me know of how straight forward it is in Cambodia and process time etc etc.

    Cheers.

ive been and was refussed, you stay thailand too long, was only given 30 at border, if it had been my last 30 it would have made things messy so i always try leaving last on for plan b!

2 load up your favourite browser

3 go to google and type in "livefooty.doctor-serv"

4 clcik on the first website it shows

5 click which broadcast you want to watch and wait 2 minutes for it to get going

and thats it.............. simple and easy

    Hope it helps

    JAF

I think you should have stuck with the first reply, which incidentally was mine, as I took into account you lack of nouse with software like this. TVAnts is okay software but its not as good as Sopcast which is just far easier to watch the game you are after.

I am trying to use TVAnts now and its a non starter compared to Sopcast. Do you want to have that problem at game time

    JAF

i think i should not be allowed near a comp!!

right well this is how good i am, i installed em both, and niether is working, actully i can get a bit of a picture on the sopcast one at mo, although it stopped more than plays, very slow!

still mesing with it, got a computor guy mate comming to look at it but hes never heard of it either so that should be fun too!

    Thanks again everyone!

    chris
