Unrealistic money figures
I’d like to ask other expats who are married to or in a long-term relationship with a Thai woman if they’ve experienced something similar. From time to time, my wife mentions numbers or financial claims that are clearly impossible. For example, the latest one from today: a small yaba dealer got caught and news stated he has 20,000 million baht (twentythousandmillions) in his possession. As someone who works with numbers and economics, this immediately triggers me because I know it can’t be true. But when I question it or try to explain calmly why it doesn’t add up, it somehow triggers something emotional in her, and the conversation escalates very quickly. What I genuinely don’t understand is the reason: Is this a cultural thing? Do Thai news sometimes use numbers loosely or dramatically for impact? Is it related to how numbers, money, or status are perceived or talked about? Is there a tendency in local news to exaggerate financial figures because most people don’t question or calculate them? Is it about face, storytelling, exaggeration, or something else entirely? Or is it simply information being repeated without ever being questioned? I am sure you’ve had similar experiences — or if you have insight from living in Thailand or being married to a Thai partner — I’d really appreciate your perspective.

Causes of the exponential increase in Thai obesity?
Lack of awareness and wrong incentives.. Our niece 16 years, is close to 80 kilos. Grew up with Grandma. Whenever relatives, her mother, her brothers are visiting: "ohooo you are fat" - Grandmother gets the very proud look on her face "See, i took really good care nah?"

Farang food
1. Make an oven yourself if you like DYI - plenty of instructional videos out there 2. Go and buy one in Macro or homepro - they are dirtcheap or 3. Order it online - plenty of good quality supplier, delivering all over Thailand 4. Buy the bread at Tops, Rimping, local bakery There's no excuse, if you love bread, to buy that low quality, white bread in Tesco or Big C

Farang food
If it's that cheap white bread you find at every Big C, the kind that makes your stomach burp all afternoon, mayonnaise made only of sugar and flavor enhancers, bland lettuce, and Thai market tomatoes with no taste – 69 THB. You bake your own bread using high-quality ingredients, make your own mayo or use a premium import, sweet and flavorful imported tomatoes, crisp fresh lettuce, perfectly marinated and grilled chicken – 250 THB.

Bruce Lee was a fraud - Jeet Kune Do, Krav Maga, Kung Fu - all useless in a rea fight
There's hardly or never a thing like a knife fight. Let's both pull our knifes and let's duel - engarde 😆 That was way in the old days or in Hollywood movies. A knife is made to be felt and not to be seen But Silat is fun to practice as like every other martial art there is.

Non-Imm-O: Marriage vs. Retirement based
Homevisits are only once on the first extension from my experience. If you move and you apply for the extension in another area/other immigration for the first time they make the homevisit again - the following years not anymore. That applied to Chiang Mai and now the same to Ubon.

Youtubers in Thailand.
Source? URL's? You know how the whole monetizing thing works don't you? In case you dont: Youtubers get a share of click price that advertisers pay. I doubt Google allows clickfraud in huge numbers. A few clicks might be fraud but that does not pay an income. You can buy Subscribers from shady providers but a) subscribers don't matter at all - it's vanity and b) black hat and you would never risk to loose the channel to get a few thousands subscribers.

How to get started with a YouTube channel as a beginner
Not a millionaire but a nice to have bonus income trough a Youtube Channel. Wifey has a cooking show channel. I also handle some channels as an admin. In my opinion the Youtube peak time, where you could really make tons of money are long gone. Short formats like Reels, TikToks and YT Shorts are taking over. You can't really make money from those. If you can't generate at least 50k views channel-wide per day for an audience coming mostly from Europe or the US it's not worth the effort. I have seen plenty of channels fail if the only motivation of creating content is money. You have to generate value for your audience and until you have a loyal amount of viewers it takes years. IG Reels are merely here to create followers and subscribers to other services (probably only fans)

Accounting Audit
We run a SME company and we outsourced all the accounting. From my understanding an Audit checks the books every year. Our accounting company forwards our books to the audit themselves. I have 2 questions about this audit: 1) Is the audit made from government represantatives or are those private companies that work for the government? 2) Is the rate for the audit always the same? What factors are responsible for calculating the audit rate? If its done by private companies i assume there are differences in rate? thank you for some clarification

In need of advice about my Visa Situation
I don't really know what to do and i'd appreciate some ideas or perspectives from others. I am staying on a 1 year marriage extension which is expiring on february 3rd. Out of stupidity i booked a flight to my homecountry leaving Thailand on february 14th and coming back on march 7th. Now the original plan was to extend the extension of stay this week, which gives me the visa under consideration valid from feb. 3rd to march 3rd. I was planning to make a re-entry permit. But now i am convinced that this re-entry permit would only be valid till march 3rd if i am not mistaking - i did not verify this but it would be logical. Meaning i can only get back into the country by march 3rd or earlier because by this day i need to pick up the final extension. I see 2 possibilities 1) changing return flight to march 2nd to enter the country by 3rd with the re-entry permit. Then go pick up extension of stay on the immigration 2) changing outbound flight to feb. 3rd and let my permission of stay expire. Then apply in my homecountry on the embassy for a 60 day non-im visa to enter the country on my booked return date on march 7th. With this visa stay 60 days and then go to the immigration and apply for the extension of stay for another year Is there any third option i might not considerate? Thanks alot for your ideas and time to give me some hints.

HBO GO not available anymore
After not using HBO GO for quite a while on my Smart TV, I wanted to open it yesterday and check the available movies. It required me to login again with a QR Code that i should scan on my HBO GO Mobile App. Problem is, the HBO GO Mobile App is not available in this region (anymore?). Any workaround? thanks

Starting a youtube channel
Don't do it for the money. If your Mrs. has a passion and a dream it will keep her (and you) going. Don't copy another (successfull) channel, find your personality and your style. It will develop over time. Go back to the start of any channel and you will see, if they did not delete the old content, how crappy their content was in the beginning Thai audience is quite big, you don't have to make your content in English. If your Mrs is charming and knows how to sweet talk in Thai, stick to your initial idea Don't overthink it - go for it Don't fall for Coaches that promise you to grow your channel in 6 months to 100k subscribers or whatever. Don't invest money. Every good advice you can find for free on Youtube if you do a bit of research If you gain traction and exposure be prepared to read hate comments. Still 98% of the Thai audience are very polite and kind and will write positive comments, but there are a few that will get personal and they attack right there where it hurts the most.
