  1. I'm 38. I have all the plans in place to relocate to Thailand by the time I'm 40. Thai language school for first 2-3 years then Elite Visa from there on.

I know Thailand has many things not exactly right with it, as I'm reminded constantly on this forum, but the good far outweighs the bad. And as I don't have any solutions or the want to change anything I'm more than happy to just enjoy the country for what it is.

  2. You have a point, but there should be some sort of visa to allow the under fifties to retire here provided they are
    contributing to the economy.

The elite visa is only for the rich who can afford to lose 500.000 Baht every five years, not fair I would say.

What sort of visa is there for the under fifties to retire here, that is nothing to do with tourism, and they don' want to get married.

Thailand needs to have a big rethink about this.
Why do they need to do anything? People who have a legit job can get a work permit and visa. Tourists can get a visa waiver. Longer term tourists can get a METV.probably a reason for that staring one in the face.
If there is no visa type that suits someone's needs there is
    OB
Longer term tourists can get a METV. It is totally unreasonable to expect the average person to pay out the equivilant of 100.000 Bt per year with nothing in return.
    What is OB?

Don't they get a visa? What are the monetary requirements for somewhere like Australia? Much much more. 100k is actually pretty cheap for residency.

    OB

    Your'e last sentence. I don't agree.

Approx $6.8K for marriage visa. $3.8K temporary work visa.
So marriage visa 176800฿ for 2 years. Work visa 98800฿ for 2 years also. Almost in line with Thailand. I think it's great value.
  3. He won't have to worry about renewing his tourist visa I can see a 50 year extension stamp in his passport already !

had to laugh at that comment, good one thumbsup.gif but I still feel a bit bad for him, yeah he knew what he was doing and he knew the consequences, but he s going to either be dead soon or wish he was. I do not wish that kind of suffering upon anybody who does something as trivia as trafficking cocaine. Punishment yes, 50 years in utter hell, no

We said Monk...all the smug schadenfreude from the limpdick peanut gallery is sickening. Whether people like it or not, no one is forcing anyone to use coke or anything else. The idea that someone can be kidnapped and caged like an animal for a victimless crime, and that others can cheer it on goes to show how pathetic some people are, and how confused society is about morality.

Whoa whoa whoa. Victimless crime is going a bit far don't you think? Have you not seen the drug wars that go on between cartels in Mexico? Headless bodies strung up, not because they did anything wrong but used as a warning for others to not even think about it!

And the end users that became addicts, while their own god damn fault, create a trail of crime based victims along the way. Along with their families that deal with these problems on a large scale.

I'm in agreeance with you about the appropriateness of taking a kids life away it's far from a victimless crime. I think that's a bit short sided.

  4. Me too, after 20 years in Thailand I feel it's time to move away.

Too violence in the ex land of smile

Just curious.... 20 years ago did you have access to social media in which almost every single violent crime across the country is reported in glorious detail along with half-page colour photos and streamed CCTV videos?

Smartest comment I've seen for quite sometime. Well articulated, thanks.

  5. "Tourist was drunk & senseless". No heart and no soul from this copper. Venting his fury at more Thailand spotlight & him being the designated spokesperson.

I think people forget Thai is a very literal language and when it get translated to English it sounds very cold and direct.

Before you go pointing the finger maybe learn a bit about thai sentence structure and vocabulary.

Think we all know what a bikini is. LOS used the tourist bikini as an excuse before with a crime. Seems the tourist wearing a bikini was the problem...

    Your thoughts....?

My statement was referring to what was mentioned in the quote. I in no way pretend to understand or endorse what Prayut has to say at anytime.

  6. "Tourist was drunk & senseless". No heart and no soul from this copper. Venting his fury at more Thailand spotlight & him being the designated spokesperson.

    He is right.

Have no excuses for rapists, but women do have certain responsibilities to themselves to ensure they keep safe and not vulnerable, as do we all regardless of the situations.

You are believing she was drunk and senseless. Maybe she had only 2-3 drinks. How does a girl fight off a man ? Maybe he was armed with a knife or

gun. What a stupid thing to say. What if it was someone you knew ?? You must believe that all women should never go out to a bar, restaurant etc.

I hear that the BIB are hiring. You should apply; as you would fit right in with these lot :(

Without being there the time of the morning suggests there would be more than 2-3 drinks consumed over the evening one would think. Further, in foreign countries even guys should take more care than usual themselves ie: don't go out drunk alone etc.

Speculation will always be rife, you're doing it yourself, when there is no first hand knowledge of what has occurred.

  8. The only real blame should lay with the driver IMO. The workers more than likely have no choice and as it was stated it was the speed that would have been the a main issue, everything else is secondary.

And all the calls for the laws to be changed/enforced/people thrown in jail, I may as well stay @ home if that's the case because if they do that for everything it'll take away a large part of why we all re-locate in the first place....

  9. @glegelo

The issue is that we are being targeted as foreigners. This having house owners "register us" and documenting our every move and stay required by law to be reported....? You haven't read 1984 I take it.

To the OP, if you have nothing to hide/worry about, just let them find you and don't worry about it. Clearly you're not hiding, so if were important they'd have found you already.

BTW, my guess is this is just a routine check on foreigners staying in the area. Particularly because you're in a relatively out of the way spot. The same thing happened with me as well. They have a passed down initiate to document and confirm where we're all living. Had an officer a couple of times stopping me and documenting on some official sheet where I stayed etc...

No I have not and do not intend to! But I can tell you that we are still laughing in the western world of you guys that ran around like headless chickens, after reading the stuff, and obviously still doing it..... By the way have you found big foot yet???

What in hell,,, for me... who cares... let them check... let them register....I DONT CARE..... I am a falang and they want to keep track of me, that is fine,,, it is their country not mine... and as I said, i would love my swedish I:officers doing the same, even in more extend....

Dont worry, relax, you guys reached the moon, but still afraid of the book 1984....

    Glegolo

Maybe change his username to ParanoidFalang.

Just another 'why do I have to follow the rules?' BS. Grow up and deal with it. Even your home country wants to keep tabs on you i.e.: drivers license, ID cards etc.

  10. While the numbers are most definitely stacked against motorcycle riders in Thailand it doesn't stop me riding. Accidents can happen anywhere if one become complacent or, like myself in Melbourne, someone else does the same.

I guess you just have to weigh up wether you feel the chance of having to deal with the consequences is worth your passion for rifding.

Me? I feel it's totally worth it. I not relocating to Thailand because it's safe, that's for sure. But, in the same thought, neither will I give up one of the passions that keeps me sane.

And trust me, I've paid the consequences to understand exactly what they are.

    Wasn't a Saudi prince caught sexually harassing a maid last week , and he said ' I'm a prince .. I can do anything I like ' ?????

Correct and it was in the States as I recall.

Yet again we see the arrogance of these creatures who look down upon the lesser mortal they have to share the air with. Never mind prince Abdel you and your lot will in the not too distant future be herding camel again to make a few dinars.the oil is running out then again you will be the beggars at the table.

Not in our lifetime that's for sure.

  13. @GAZZPA

Here ya go Mr Lazy. Can't find anything? Who are you working for? Lol. Here are just 3 vids(of 100's if not 1000's) on the advantages of medical marijuana.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjsPBfgZ2gY

No use arguing with people who see alcohol as a medicine, lol.....I'm not doing your research for ya. Look it up yourself. If you don't find anything perhaps you should try using a proxy or VPN. Many of these stories are censored these days by Big Pharma/Government, but to be honest you are one of those people who wont even believe the truth if it was staring you right in the face..so whatever. I'm not wasting my time on you. Cheerio

I am not one of these people who doesn't believe the truth when staring me in the face,, you have no idea who i am. If I am shown evidence that it does indeed cure cancer then I will be one of the first to rant about using the drug for this purpose.

What I dont agree with to date is the use socially. No one in their right mind with hinder the use for medical purposes if it cured cancer, it's stupid to suggest otherwise.

So, thank you for sending those links, interesting but to be honest only the words of some individuals. Frankly, I have seen claims of people who have miracle cure for all sorts of things, rarely is it true, in this case I think it is sadly the same.

So, not enough Im afraid, I have seen the website "cureyourowncancer.org,,, but I would still put my faith in doctors first and foremost. And here is the question, in the unfortunate event you were diagnosed with cancer how far does your faith go in healing yourself with marijuana? Or would you go to see a Cancer specialist,, I know my answer..

Anyway, my objection is to the people who endorse canabis and frequently abuse those who do not? I don't fear peer pressure to jump on your bandwagon but i won't hurl abuse at you for your opinion, perhaps a logical, sensible argument would be the best approach for people like you to persuade an open minded person such as myself, not just you are "asleep and should wake up".

I didn't hurl abuse at you, that's a bit over-sensitive, but after you ridiculed my post and the fact that cannabis cured certain diseases and helped others to contain their pain, etc. I defended myself.

Go back and read those posts again and you will see who started the 'aggression'.

Sensible and logical arguments don't change the world I'm afraid. There are too many brainwashed naysayers who are so convinced of their old world bs.

It's like trying to convince people that the world is a sphere when they still believe the world is flat.

People who say yes to alcohol, that kills millions a year, but no to a herb that never kills, but only relieves, cures and helps is beyond my comprehension.

It's up to you if you'd like to remain ignorant to this information or jump on 'my' bandwagon. I only spread the word and hope people are wise enough to listen because it's pretty obvious governments have been lying to us, so yes, it is time to wake up

Flawed argument. Alcohol only kills through abuse, like absolutely anything.

  14. Irish trash , if he want to sell drugs do it in Ireland. At least he will get a decent meal in prison there. Now his life will be like hell for a long time.

Geez relax Balo....it's weed not stinking Meth or such!.

Weed....a drug that is legal in many countries now and there will be more. I don't partake but to possibly give a young guy 50 years for weed is not justice.

There are far, far worse things in Thailand that do deserve those 50 years behind bars.

Do we mention the cop killers, the Kho Tao debacle, the Phuket scams, the police corruption, the defunct legal system, etc, etc, etc.

I am not saying he gets off.

No. Take down a stupid young man selling weed. Nice one guys.

I think we're forgetting the countries that have legalized it have mostly been cannabis oils and the like.

AFAIK it's still illegal to push it in this way in any country in the planet.....

  15. Meanwhile, just today I went to a 100% legal dispensary and used my medical card to buy some gummy bear medibles.

One of those puppies before my hot yoga class actually improved my balance, 555

Too bad you geniuses live in the Middle Ages. This guy will probably prefer one of those 'Iron Maidens' to 50 years in a Thai prison...

What you're stating is fine in country of where you are from.

When are people going to realise SEA is not the place to take the chance? It's legal in very few places in the world but the penalties in Thailand etc are very well know, especially for visitors.

In Islam it's legal to marry a 9 year old. By everyone's reasoning I, if I was a muslim living O/S, should be able to marry a 9 year old because it's legal back home. Stupid analogy on their behalf.

  16. Don't listen to all these grumpy old gits who to tell you work to hard all your life, save up and then when you are able to retire you get cancer or heart attack or just don't have the physical stamina to do all the things you wanted to when you were young. The future is uncertain but death is always impending and inevitable and you don't want regrets. Of course if you really enjoy what you are doing in the process of getting it together working towards a future goes without saying, but I have seen to many friends and family who have worked hard to get somewhere and towards the end ask ask themselves <deleted> was this all about?

    Exactly this.

I've worked my butt off, secured property, cash reserves and other investments. Another 2 years and I'll be 40 living in Thailand retired and happy.

You only live once, it ain't a dress rehearsal!

  17. I would assume the taxi driver didn't know how much money the Norwegian had on him before the assault, right? So the amount of money he had on him is irrelevant. Ok, he's a tourist so doesn't know the town, and I imagine knew it even less if he'd been drinking til 5 am. And the driver probably got frustrated, which is still no excuse for assault, but anger management not a strong suit here (note many posts where drivers like to dive into scuffles that don't concern them). Should have dropped passenger off at police station and let them deal with him.

Maybe pre-paid and the Motorcy driver saw the wad?
