  1. Anyone sees this at a later date, I got the visa via a meeting with the secretary to the Consul, at the office on Narathiwat road, very near Makro. The next day the scruffy messenger met me there with my passport and visa. So TGW you were correct, he was the official messenger of the Consulate. But <deleted> me did he look like he lived under a bridge ......

  2. Has anyone had dealings with the Congo Consulate in Bangkok. I went to the office address this morning, with an appointment, to get my business visa. On the way, I was called and informed that a messenger would meet me and collect my documents, (passport etc) and 5k. On arrival at the office, it looks like it hasn't been open for years. I didn't hand over anything to the scruffy looking dude who arrived on a clapped out motorbike. Anyone with similar experience ? With a happy ending ... .

  3. Had to necro this thread to add that I found that aircon service place now 2021 and they fixed the missus' aircon in 10 mins, for 500 THB. The <deleted> at Bquik quoted her 6k, telling her they needed to change almost every component of the Yaris aircon. I told her on phone get out of there, dont pay them anything, and sent her to this shop. They guessed it was either compressor or the controller. So they tested a new controller (smallest cheapest part), aircon was back working 100%. 500 Baht and I WILL NEVER EVER AGAIN VISIT BQUIK.

  4. Hi all, i have found plentiful suppliers of Thai made epoxy resin. Of course there is little point asking the manufacturer about the quality, as they are all the best. So if anyone has good data on which is actually the best for boat building, i would love to know. I have built using eastmarines Kinetix resin, which was good, but it is ffffing expensive. So seeking locally made alternative of suitable quality, any hands on info is appreciated. I am in Phuket

    Thanks

  5. Thanks for the input all. I bought a charger on ebay. I am having a friend re-cell the batteries. This is quite simple for someone with a bit of soldering experience. The cells are a standard size, 15 of them, they need to be connected correctly to the charging circuit inside the original battery housing. There are plenty videos on YTube, a battery pack of 15 can be had for 500-1000 baht, dunno about quality but worth the outlay.

  6. Recently left de Walt 18v battery in the charger, came back and found the battery hot as xxxx, the charger was melted and I am guessing I am lucky I got home when I did. Not sure if it was dirty power or old age caught up.

It was an old model, for sure de Walt don't supply any longer. So I am looking for DeWalt charger and maybe even batteries, but I think they are rare now. The drill is 18V XRP, battery model number DC9096. I believe the battery is 2.2 Amps, so if anyone is in possession of a charger for this battery, and they no longer have use for it, I am in the market for one. Optimistically thanks in advance.

  7. Currency has a bit to do with this. How many old fart Brits have seen their monthly 1500 quid, on which they lived like a sexpat king, reduce their living standards to 711 beers only and haggling the price of motorbike taxis. 72 baht to the pound when I bought my first condo, now 42 baht. Thats a kick in the balls for anyone. Inflation in Thailand has not been stalled in the last 10 years as it has been in the Europe, Japan and the US.

  8. Hi Readers

I have a general question regarding US Social Security, I am asking on behalf of some extended Thai family members.

My wife's Aunt was married with a US citizen (he is/was Thai, moved to the US many years ago, became a US citizen) and he recently passed away in Thailand. They are married many years and have children here in Thailand, the children are now over 18 years of age. He was in his 70s and was receiving a monthly Social Security payment. Does anyone know if she is entitled to continued SS payments as his surviving Widow? She has never been to the US and obviously never worked there either. She will be 60 very soon.

Appreciate any feedback from anyone who knows the system

    Thanks

  9. well that more or less answers any questions I might have had ..... I was hoping this car was an animal. I have aseen a few around and I am in the market for something new. Shame to read the power is so disappointing, cos I seemed to read that all Subaru are more or less sharing the same powerplant, 2.0 boxer engine. Maybe it is possible to strap on a turbo?

  10. Well I went to PA and asked, the service is no longer offered. They directed me to the 3BB office in Patong, I was online 2 days later. But I had to pay upfront for a year, total about 7500 Baht for 10 Meg line (plus 2k to run a cable into my place), which so far appears to be run at 7-9 Meg.

  11. Apologies if this Q+A has already been flogged to death.

I subscribe to PA cable TV in Patong. I want to bring internet into my Condo, but I have no phone line any more. PA Cable offer Internet access through the TV cable.

Is anyone using this service? Is it worth installing?

  12. Dude, I have been living in Phuket since 2003, I am an oil worker and I was doing 6x6 week rotations till 2007, then 5x5 week rotations thereafter. I lived on 30 day stamps for all that time, which included a hop to KL maybe 5 times per year as my usual stay was more than 30 days.

I was always worried on coming into the country, are they gonna let me in or not. In the last year that worry became quite acute and I was having to book dummy flights out before coming back from work etc. I am no longer a salaried employee, I am a contractor so not much to prove my position except a Seaman's book.

So I bought the Elite card. I ffffing love it. With the price of oil at 50 bucks today, you may be out a job next month, so I suggest you buy the card so that if you do get stuck for 6 months with no work (like me right now), you do not have to worry about being turned away. If you can afford it, buy it. Oil and Gas, oil and gas ........

  13. I think the police have turned over a new leaf and are going to pursue this case, no matter where or who it leads to. I believe it is because the army has their back; both to support them and to keep them on the straight and narrow path of righteousness.

If they can bring in the guilty parties and make a credible case against them (no matter who is their father), it will go a long way to restoring respect and confidence in the RTP.

Indeed it wont, in my opinion all this will do is show them up even further - it is only the International pressure that has made this happen in the first place. And only after a Scottish lad pointed the finger at the locals and fled for his life.

  14. She/they have been very understanding, I assure you that in many countries they just won't let you departing.

    name the countries please

It is not just about the countries, airlines have rules too. Thai airways will ALWAYS ask to see an outbound ticket, I have found them to be the most difficult, flying from anywhere to Bangkok. Etihad in Dublin ALWAYS insist on it (I had to buy a new one, but they gave me a dummy for free), yet Emirates in Dublin don't care. Emirates in London made me buy a return ticket, yet Emirates in Dubai don't care. It is not necessarily a predictable situation .....
