  1. I've ordered a few different things from Ebay and mostly not been charged any duty.

One item i did get charged duty... and the costs worked out around 120% of the item value!! But it was something i couldn't get here in Thailand, so i had to pay it... it was a motorbike jacket that was sent via DHL

What I found is that if you have it shipped by a tracked mail service, then you probably won't be charged duty.

However, if it comes by courier, such as DHL, it will almost certainly be taxed.

Also the duty/tax is charged on the value of the item including the cost of shipping. BUT (as i descovered the hard way) the cost of shipping is not the actual cost that you paid. It is a highly inflated cost based on Volumetric weight. DHL have some magic formula on their computers that calculates this regardless of the actual shipping fee paid.

So if you receive a big sized package, by DHL they will tax you a lot more than the rate that you calculate it should be, because they exagerate the shipping cost.

Edit - i always look on lazada first

  2. Not quite on topic but if you cant ride it there you can post it. Thai post office send motorbikes over 400 cc for about 3500 baht

Thank you very munch. Exactly what I need.
    did you do this?

I just received my Yamaha R3. Took 7 days to go from Ubon Ratchathani to Krabi. Cost 3600 baht.

    And fuel tank half full.

  3. I've not been to many islands.. I didn't rate Phuket. But I have stayed on Koh Lanta.

It's a nice place. It's a long island with a jungle covered mountain down the middle. The west side has all the life. Lots of nice long beaches with resorts, bars and restaurants on them.

It's a very relaxed atmosphere. With lot's of bars and restaurants. I will say tho there seems to be more places than customers.

Accommodation is as cheap or expensive as you want. From bamboo huts to villa resorts.

You can get an ok brick bungalow for 600 baht/night which is not much more than a bed in a hostel.

There's not many cars, so it's a great place to explore on motorbikes. You can also do the usual island boat trips.

There's a lot of families and back packers here.

    Worth a visit

  4. Makes me laugh here...

All the self rightous shit about paedophiles.

The pimp was 16 and the working girls were under 18... the ommtence of their ages makes me think they are probably 17.

The age of consent in most civilised countries is 16, so why is it paedophilia?

The age of consent in thailand is technically 15...

If you are saying they are under age for sex work, then you need to remember sex work is illegal at any age.

There's nothing illegal about paying for sex in Thailand if the girl/boy is 18+. Under 18 is a completely different matter.

So it's perfectly acceptable to have sex with a 17 year old, by European standards and it's legal in Thailand... but if you pay for it, you are a paedophile? lol

  5. I only flown one time with different airlines for each leg. It was a few years ago, so my memory is a bit foggy on the exact details, but we didnt collect our bags and checkin again at each airport.

We flew from Iran to Kuwait, Kuwait to Beruit, Beruit to Frankfurt and Franfurt to Manchester. All different airlines.

We checked in in Iran and then when we got to Kuwait, we went to the Transfer desk in the transit area. Gave our booking details and I'm pretty sure they arranged transfer of our luggage and printed our onward boarding cards for the other 3 flights.

As I say, I'm not 100% on the details, so phone the airlines and ask them.

  7. I'm told by the missus, when she translated my policy. I'm only covered for one own vehicle repair, if it's my fault... which it always is in thailand...

A big german guy on a moped, did a face plant into the rear quarter of my car a couple of weeks ago... he had no helmet and was lucky to hit the middle of the panel...

So, that's my one repair used up!

  8. Propaganda trying to initiate attaks on Iran...

"Saudi Arabia's regional rival, Shiite Iran, is not part of the coalition. Saudi Arabia and Iran support opposite sides of in the wars raging in Syria and Yemen."

This implies that Iran support terrorists and Islamic state, but they are actually in support of the Syrian government which is fighting various rebel factions trained by the US.

Iran is Shiite. Shia is a more relaxed version of islam, which is why they are hated by the more hardline Sunni...

    Islamic State are extreme Sunni.

    Saudi is Sunni.

That said, I do think sunni extremism is very harmful to the changes and developments that are happening in Saudi. Saudi funding of IS would be bad for Saudi. US has more to gain by funding IS

  9. As mentioned before. I got 2 certificates of residence 1 for registering my bike and one for my car.

I registered the car no Problem but they required a copy of my passport main page AND Visa page. Took half an hour.

My Bike on the otherhand... my bike was bought new and the agent registered it in Det Udom. When I submitted the COR and copies of my passport AND visa. The Traffic Office REFUSED to transfer to my name....

they demanded a copy of my VISA...

The problem was, the traffic offices have been given new instructions that a VISA is required... the instruction included an example photo, which is of a UK entry Visa... the uk visa says "United Kingdom VISA" at the top... the Thai visa says only "Kingdom of Thailand"... it doesnt say "VISA"

So because the thai visa doesn't say "VISA" at the top same as the example in their instruction, my papers kept getting refused! Took nearly a month to sort it.

Total 6 months to register my bike...

  10. I very recently registered my car and bike while I was on Tourist Visa.

Ubon Ratchathani Immigration office refused to give certificate of residence, even tho I was registered as staying at my wife's family's home. They said I needed to be on 1 year extension... this can't be true, but was not possible to change her view.

I then went to Ubon Ratchathani Tourist Police, with my thai wife and they happily gave me 4 certificates of residence. 1 each for transfer ownership of car and bike, and 1 each for car and bike driver licences. I just needed copy of my passport photo page and visa page. Copy of wife's ID, copy of wife's tabien baan, with origionals to show and a passport size photo.

(Edit) cost for COR was 100 baht only. The form allowed me to request all 4 different letters on one form, and it's apparently 100 baht per request form. So knowing I needed 4 saved 300 baht.
