I can't beleive the prices at the low end of the second hand car market. I paid over the odds for this. 270,000 Baht for a 16yr old car with 225,000Km on the clock! But after looking around all the car dealers, this was the best option for a 4x4 with 4 doors, under 300,000 Baht.
Fuel economy is a bit disappointing tho! 12.7 Litre/100km
I've gone from a 2010 6.0lt V8 Caprice with 350hp that did 11.4 litres/100 km, had 80,000 km on the clock, and I sold in Saudi for 280,000 Baht
To a 1999 2 ton Tank with 95hp that does 12.7 litres/100km, has 225,000 km on the clock for the same money
lol it's a bit of a change and I need to adapt my driving habits but the 2 ton Tank is deffo more appropriate for rural Thailand.
There's a few niggles that I need to sort, but on the whole I'm happy with it.
I asked in Toyota for owners, and workshop/service manuals, but the answer was owners manuals are only supplied with the vehicles, not available after and workshop/service manuals are not available because they are copyright.... lol they dont want me doing my own repairs is what i think they mean.
If I knew exactly which model hilux it was based I could maybe get a manual for that for the mechanics

Has anyone here ever owned a Hilux Sport Rider and have any manuals for it or information to share?
Mine is 1999. I understand it's basically a modified twincab Hilux (according to Wikipedia), but I'm not sure exactly which model...
I've got the service log book but no manuals...

When I said I would not buy the car with only 2nd class Insurance, they managed to find a company who would do 1st class but with a max Value of 150,000 baht. Which is only 60% of the price I paid for the car... not ideal, but I think better than 2nd class.
-
Not a bad place to spend a night tho if you can go out!

Is it true that I can't have 1st class insurance on an car older than 10 yrs old?
What cover is 2nd class insurance?

2 against 1 for not using? The only thing I'd be wanting to add to the fuel would be a water absorbing additive since diesel fuel is hygroscopic. Deisel fuel and water can make for some nasty alge growth. And SEA has a lot of humidity.
Most diesel vehicles have good fuel filters and usually a water trap some where along the fuel system.
Injector spray patterns can become clogged at some point. Injector cleaner additives probably don't do much.
injector cleaners work very well and do clean them, and oil additives do no harm at all.
Injector cleaners do nothing unless you use them from the start. Ultra sound is the only way to clean them.
Modern oil needs nothing...
So 2 against one for not using injector cleaners.........
How do they add this anyway?
I cannot see the benefit to the engine treatment product especially as there is so little. Also as mentioned none of this was used (or did not appear on the invoices) for the first couple of years of services but has now been on the last 3.
One said injector cleaner not effective if not using from the start... i read that it works if you use it from the start.
Which in your case, you would be

Injector cleaner is preventative maintenance. Think of it like cleaning your teeth. If you clean them often, they are easy to clean. If you don't clean them they develop a hard to remove layer that holds more dirt.
Oil additive would make me question the quality of oil they are using...

Have you read the book I mentioned?

I've done 1000 Km on my R3 now and the trip computer is showing 4.3 litres of fuel per 100 km
So that is 66 miles per gallon(uk)
55 miles per gallon (us)
That's mostly with my missus on the back.

Thai Police seem very quick to collect fines, so if you haven't paid one by now, I'd think it's most likely that you won't have to.

I got 3 letters today from the Ubon Ratchathani Tourist Police for 100 baht
1. For Motorbike drivers licence.
2. For car drivers licence.
3. For registering motorbike.
Got stopped by police 1Km from Traffic Office and got 200 baht fine for UK licence...
Got Motorbike and Car licences easy enough

The IO did mention the bombing and clamp down on corruption...

Ok cheers ubonjoe. I need to go to Bangkok in a couple of weeks, so I'll try the Embassy then. Maybe email before to check.
Seems a bit silly if you need to be on extension to get residency certificate... when I open my bank account, I lost count of the banks I tried that all required a residency certificate to open an account.
So you need money in a thai account to get extension... need extension to get residency certificate... need residency certificate to open bank account... there's an obvious problem with this system, now that they are enforcing it...
Where is this Driving licence office in Ubon? I can't find it on Google maps
-
Ok, I went to Ubon Ratchathani Immigration office today with tm30 to notify them of my stay at my Father - in-laws home.
I asked about certificate of residency for registering my bike and was told that I could not get this until after I have completed 1 full year extension...
Is this correct?

What age is a girl old enough to decide she wants to be a sex worker?Mudcran/Louse1953,
I am not a Baptist, just a normal self respecting person who tries to show respect to those around me.
You on the other hand are a pretty good example of the worst of humanity, while you may not be a pedophile you're off the cuff and puerile comments help to minimize and normalize the actions of those involved in this case.
This was an underage girl, she is not old enough to decide that she wants to be a sex worker. It should not be a reason for idle banter and joviality you sick and unfeeling f#$k.
If it was a relation of you'rs would you be so callous and arrogant?
I think not but I suspect you're intellect can't see that far ahead...

Interesting that you think having a younger thai wife is a symbol of success...
-
Sorry, I meant contact them before your trip. Get the number for the office in dubai airport
-
How did you know this girl?
Ye, poor village mums sell their young girls to people who come up from Bangkok, it is normally a guy with a couple women, they tell the mums they have house work for the girls with well to do people the girls range from 12-14yrs. I was told this by a girl it happened to. She was raped in a room in Bangkok by a young Thai guy while being held down by 2 women. She was then taken to a place where there were quite a few youge girls, they were all from Issan.many in issan do the same..just 15..makes me feel sick
They threatened if she spoke or tried to leave their mother would be punished.
Sick bastards.

I would contact the airline and check, if you have time.
Maybe you can give 2nd leg details at check-in and they will do it for you.
Maybe need to go to transit desk and get your bag transfered.

Somebody didn't pay their donations
-
That must make at least 90% of the male population, falang and Thai, deadbeats. I thought shorts and flip flops was compulsory, that's all I've been wearing for the last 6 years. So if you wear shorts and flip flops .....You're considered a "deadbeat"
You must enjoy wearing your Suit or sportcoat everyday....good luck with that in Thailand.
lol that's all I've packed for my move to Thailand on Saturday!
-
Yes if you booked the journey as a single booking with one airline, your bag is automatically transfered.

Even bargirls get jealous and angry if they see you with another girl... they hate 'butterfly men' as they call them. Bit silly because they would have no customers if it wasn't for the butterflies...

I always use Qatar airlines, very good sevice, planes and transit area at airport. Often cheaper than Saudi Airlines too

Car Registration - license plates

Do vehicle registration/license plate numbers change, for any reason?
