Think of it as insurance. Don't look for the cheapest. Read reviews before you buy.Invest in a cheap dash cam. I had a Thai driving a Honda Civic pull out of a side street without slowing down, I was driving on a through street. Tore the entire front end assembly off of his car. Funny thing, his turn indicator was still on and he was pointing at it on the ground insisting that I should have stopped and let him cross my lane to turn the other way. The police and the insurance guys showed up. I pointed out my dash cam and they did not even need to see it. His fault. The cop even laughed at him and motioned with his hand from where I came to the direction I was going. That was simpler than your case, sounds like there is no way to determine where your motorbike driver was intending to go. But, pay nothing to the guy, get your insurance to deal with it and do not meet the cops to discuss it further if you can avoid it. They will try and extort you and get a cut from the bike driver.
While my car is being fixed, I'm on the lookout for a new dash cam.

When my daughter had her motorbike accident, I was told that the motorbike insurance only pays something like 1000 baht per night spent in hospital and nothing for repairs to the cars or bikes. I find this hard to believe... Can anyone verify this?

I would always have full insurance in Thailand. It's very easy to be in a serious accident where someone is killed and it will be your fault as a falang. If someone is hurt badly or worse you can very easily find yourself in jail, so I have full insurance for the bail bond and think of the other benefits as a bonus.
My step daughter had a very serious accident 18 months ago. A motorbike hit her head on. He turned right onto the shoulder on the wrong side of the road and ploughed into her.
The bike that hit her was being ridden by an old man with his daughter and grandaughter on it with him. The grandfather and 3yr old grandaughter both died and he had no insurance.
My daughter had to have reconstructive surgery on her face.
It was clearly the old man that was at fault, but his daughter lost her dad and daughter. So we paid for their funerals. This is the thai way and I believe it was the right thing to do.
When the daughter came to say thank you, she saw me and baht signs.
2 days later the police told my wife she was demanding 600,000 baht... the police were on our side, but they never saw me. I dunno if things would have changed if they knew my wife had a falang husband. Eventually the old man's daughter gave up. Also I think my wife having such a big family also helped us.
This accident made me realise, that if it was me, rather than my daughter, I could easily have ended up in jail...
It's the same here in saudi and I put a dash cam in my car here. It's not strictly legal here and possibly would get ignored, but it gives me piece of mind. I will do the same in Thailand.

Kodi addons change and can be unreliable... the paid services tend to be more reliable.
Genesis addon has just lost the download function in the latest update... sad face

I'd hope so. I know that's not how the thais do it, but that's because they don't have full insurance
-
No real loss then if he gets paid out by insurance... unless he uses the money to sue you!
I'm hoping that's a joke and not a possibility!

I had problems with my new minix x8 not connecting to my Bluetooth speaker or keyboard... it found and connected to others ok but not the ones I wanted and they worked ok with my older minix x7... I tried an update but still no joy. So I tried Rooting it and it works now.Purchased the Gadget Guru Android Box from Lazada (1,780bht with discount).
Works well with Kodi and Genesis already installed.
Only complaints,
Loaded with so much junk, had to uninstall before it had enough space to update apps.
Can't get bluetooth to connect to my Bluedio headset.
Gets a bit hot.

Does it effect you insurance cost if you have a claim against you?
Here in saudi a lot of people drive without insurance so the blame always go's on the insured party. So for an Expat it is always your fault, but the cost of insurance isn't effected, so I have no problem taking blame if it doesn't cost me anything...
Is it similar in thailand?

I know I was getting on her nerves. ;-)
Thing is now, that's not so bad so I don't understand why she and her friends would say I must never say it... and why she would rather I believe it means 'fck you'
or is the intent the same as me saying in English 'will you fck off doing that' or 'shut the fck up!' ?
-
Made me laugh and now I joke with her dancing like a chicken, 'bok borp'. She says I mustn't say it to anyone else, but I'd like to know what it means.
-
The 'aa lom mai dee' was me to her.
When I nudged her she jumped up very angry shouting 'bok porp' as she jumped up.
I said it seemed very much like a 'fck you!'
Now she says it means fck you but I'm not sure she's being entirely truthful...

There's a very good book called 'Private Dancer' by an English author called 'Stephen Leather'.
Well worth a read.
Google it, it's available for free download.

No ideas what these means?

So even you think you are an exception...
What????? My wife and I have a better relationship than any other couple I know so that statement is utter nonsense I,m afraid.
They're not all gold diggers, just as we are not all looking for a slave girl.
No offense but does your wife not love you then? If all Thai girls are only in it for the material gain then surely your wife is too?Have you ever been to Thailand?
First time I went was with my Thai missus when she was my girlfriend... I felt like I'd taken sand to the beach...
Go and enjoy what is on offer a few times first. Have some fun with some girls.
I got a pre nump and it doesn't protect you for anything after marriage. Or anything you can't prove... she still gets half of everything you gain after getting married and if she takes out loans and stuff you can get the liability of those too...
Don't think it's love, she is with you for what you give her that she can't get without you. Don't look for romance, look for a partnership. And if you can find one, an orfan!
I really feel that its harsh to assume that all Thai women are capable of some of the horror stories published on this forum and in general circulation around the world.
I for one certainly don't subscribe to that line of thought. I know doubters will say its only a matter of time but that's just BS from bitter individuals
Some want material wealth and status, but some just want security and preferably with someone the are comfortable with. The two are different.
They don't do romance.

Maybe we are an exception but surely you can't believe that Thai women don't do romance????
All the other comments here are saying they are romantic if you buy them things... so, if you pay them they put on a show... really? No sht sherlock. Must be love.
The thought that a young girl is with a 70 year old falang just for sweet talk... that's a joke right? [emoji23]
To OP, try not to delude yourself. Disillusionment is expensive.
I know a lot of blokes who have apparently found diamonds and are very happy.
Try Philippines too.

Haha joking apart, In the UK it's hard to find a girl who doesn't have kids... and you end up paying for the kids upbringing... but at least at some point they start to fend for themselves...
An orfan?!?! Haha, well I'll try. I know its a serious subject, but that did make me laugh.Have you ever been to Thailand?

In Thailand girls are compelled to support their parents. Particularly farm girls. Sons don't send money home but daughters do. So you end up paying for the parents, which gets more as they get older... grandparents too if still alive... if she has a brother you'll end up paying for his wedding too...
So yeah get an orfan!

Learning anything needs motivation that comes from personal interest. You have to want to learn, to get through the monotony.
People aren't naturals at anything. They are just more passionate about the things they excel at.
You can't learn anything by Osmosis. Everything takes hard work. If you really want something then it doesn't feel so much like hard work. If you're not really that interested then the tedium will beat you.

Thor is actualy pronounced T-hor (like tor) not Th-or....I asked some Thai friends to pronounce the film title "Thor". I remind them when they laugh at my Thai. 5555

A few months back my missus was sulking and I was laughing at her saying 'aah rum mai dee, aah rum mai dee' and I nudged her and she jumped up flapping her arms and swearing in thai... and she looked and sounded like a chicken.
I'm interested to know what she said. I asked her at the time and she told me it wasn't anything bad. So I said it in front of her friends and they said I must not say it, but wouldn't say what it meant....
Was something like 'Boq borp'
Anyone know what I mean?

Oh! So my wife's dad is supposed report that I stay at their home?
Pretty sure they don't know this and have never done it...

Dash Cams
in Thailand Motor Discussion
Posted
On another thread about a road accident there's been a lot of mention of Dash Cams.
I'm wondering what the legality of dash Cams is in Thailand.
I know some countries have them as compulsory now. Some countries give reduced insurance if you have them. While on the other hand, some countries don't accept them as evidence and they are actually illegal in some other countires.
Does anyone here have experience of dash cam footage being accepted as evidence in Thailand?
