" The visa holder will often apply for Visa extension based on Retirement when in the Kingdom, which will enable them to stay for longer (see below). However, for this initial application, you will need the following documents: Proof that you are 50 years or older (your passport will suffice) Sufficient funds in your Thai Bank account not less than 800,000 THB. " Every source says this. This is not the visa we're discussing.

My 15 month retirement visa seems to be off the market now. Anyone have a martial arts connection or something similar that works for them? Or advice? I'll bet I have to pull up stakes & live elsewhere! Thanks! Ubon Joe, your opinions?

How do I learn the visa laws?
cubism001 replied to cubism001's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Chiang Mai, airport - the only one left, I believe. But I relied on private companies & it was fine until a month ago. Then one after another, they couldn't do this 15 month retirement visa, even a powerful company that I never doubted. I'm trying to learn the 'rules' so I don't step out of line again crossing borders until I have to move. It looks like the govt. simply wants younger, more affluent people now. I'll probably end up in a dustier less sanitary version of Thailand, at least until I save some cash to go elsewhere. How about you? I've posted everywhere. Maybe martial arts schools offer visas for a price? They did during covid. Thanks for posting. -

How do I learn the visa laws?
cubism001 replied to cubism001's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Hi Lopburi etc. I knew I'd be walking into the lion's den by posting this question. /despite the inaccuracy of my wording, how do I find information about requirements for the yearly retirement visa (not the lifetime one)? -
People posting often refer to 'official laws' and I would like to learn these. (What types of border crossings, etc.) I would also like to know the latest changes to the yearly retirement visa (a retirement visa issued for one year by an agent.) Where would I find these? Thank you.

Mesai border closed. Now what?
cubism001 replied to cubism001's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Sorry; that bus trip to Mesai was real exhausting. I entered Thailand by air from abroad as a visa exampt then (as i said) got that extended at Immigration. the stamp expires Dec. 4. I think I'l fly to Udon thani, get a stamp & back to Ch Mai. I have a deadline to meet as well. I'll go in a day or 2. -
Where should I go now to get a stamp? I'm getting a yearly retirement visa but need a stamp first (my extension stamp ends Dec. 4.) I have the original entry stamp by plane and one extension from Immigration. Thanks.

Converting a visa on arrival
cubism001 replied to Kilick's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had to get a new visa - cross a border - then things were fine. (it's been a few months). -
Hi, Can you help me with 2 things: is there a Chiang Mai forum now? & in Ch Mai, can I find a fresh vegetable market outdoors, where vegetables aren't in packs? Thanks

I remembered why I'd lived in Nepal for so many years & decided to return for a visit. Has anybody been there lately? Thanks

I thought this was somewhere that people speak openly. FYI, homeless encampments are loud & dirty, & I've lived here for years. This isn't a heartless reaction & not an uncommon one (do you get around in other countries/read?) I've had it with you closed-minded folks. Enjoy the party. "You need.." is a complete non sequitur. Not worth reading what you try to say. But I"m curious: does belonging to a free group grant you a Ph.D? Or clairvoyance so you can be rude?

Back to the topic. I asked if anybody had seen lean-tos like I'd described. Somehow that became an attack against daring to say 'homeless'. BTW, who are people, you think, who don't look like they ever bathe or change clothes and sleep in vacant store fronts. Maybe they're casually waiting for customers?

The one in the park is built of plastic sheets but also has a microwave & tables & now is used as a party shack w occasional sleepers. The other one might be somebody owns it. House is entirely plastic & garbage & a guy definitely lives there. as for the CMU area behind the zoo etc. I used to go by there & it's out of the way for many. Why does that make me unobservant? & somebody just went by there (pls read the posts)

I lived in a different country for 10 yrs before a coup then takeover & the results were bad for locals & disastrous for the expat community. For me as an expat, life in Thailand is ok at its present level. Do you think this will change a lot? (guns, rolls of barbed wire, more expat arrests)
