  1. Thanks all for your thoughts. talked to State today. need to write them a letter to aquire a copy of that "lost passport " form I filled out.

Seems rather odd to file a police report a month after the fact and having already acquired my new passport, but I will give the local po po a jingle.

As you point out moe, it is an official document that states the thing is "missing"

Or would that be the boys in brown you all are referring to in terms of getting a report??

yeah dddave I had recently done the same with my now lost passport although I did not have any re entry permit other than the single, acquired at Bhumi

seems rather odd with the re entry only being able to be done by the original office.TIT

    Again, thank you all.

edit: So there appears to be no limit to the length of time that has elapsed in regards to filing a police report. The operative thing seems to be that one "swears" to the the facts on the official  po po report. Makes sense that immigration might want that.

    back to Portland,,,,ew.

Ubon joe    I read that here

  2. I will go for the visa exempt entry, although I do wonder what will come up on their computer, regarding my status.

My  Non O with one year extension was granted at  Prathum  Thani immigration.

Since having moved into Bangkok  my last two extensions were handled at Chiang Wattana. Thanks for the form.

Feel rather foolish for not thinking that they would have a form and process.

It is recommended to not file a police report for a lost passport as there is no crime involved. I did call the State Dept and report it lost, straight away whereupon they cancelled it.

A few weeks later when applying for a new passport whilst in the states, ya have to fill out the lost or stolen passport form along with application  for a new one.

I will see if I can get a copy or a statement from State Dept or US embassy.

    Thankyou Ubon Joe

    Thankyou Maestro

  3. Lost passport with retirement visa stamp.

There I was, at Suvarnabhumi, waiting to receive my just purchased re entry permit, noting the frivolity I could hear the Thai gals  in immigration were enjoying with one another. It made me smile.

30 some laborious nerve fraying  flying  hours later I was verbally duking it out with a recalcitrant Somali immigre taxi driver in Portland Oregon who was all pissed off at the short distance I wanted to travel to my hotel, and the fact he wouldn’t make much money on the deal. The only thing in the world on my mind at that point was a quiet space with a bed.

That’s when,  I believe,  my passport with a newly minted one year extension ( my third) on a Non O retirement visa,   slipped away from my awareness and possession. Hard to know for sure. In any case...

Yada yada and I now have a new passport and am scheduled to return to to the LOS  early Oct.

I have a picture of my old passport face page

I have a picture of the visa stamp and extension in said passport

I still posses the receipt for the re entry permit.

    A few questions.

I will only be staying in the LOS 3 weeks and thus will posses an exit ticket.

How to enter the kingdom? Will visa exempt be a the  way to go?

When they enter my passport number will it show the Ret. visa, extension and re entry permit on the old passport? Chaos at immigration after a long flight....

I’m starting to get excited to see the official machinery propelled into action.

What to do once there in terms of re issuance of that extension or, will application  for a new visa and or extension of stay be the thing that needs doing?

A call to the Los Angeles consulate was predictably... unilluminating, shall we say.

What to do, what to do...

    Thoughts, suggestions warnings?

In days of old, before the American GI turned so many Thai girls into prostitutes--sorry, had to say that--a kiss was not on the price list, most Thai ladies of negotiable virtue were reluctant to do anything except the missionary. Some could be persuaded to do other things for an additional fee--I still chuckle at the term "smoke."

Am thinking prostitution was a thing in Siam way before USA.

japan has quite a history here in that regard.

  5. Thailand is a third world country. Not a first nor a second.

The social structure places a heavy emphasis on appearance, patronage and fealty. These factors  combined with the historically agrarian simple mindedness of the vast majority of Thais to this day, all whilst the country is engaged in the attempted assimilation if not mere emulation of western style gov/societal values, driven  y forces both i and outside the country, gives rise  to lunacy such as this.

Give a caveman an IPhone with printed instructions and would you be suprised if he wiped his arse with the instructions and used the phone as a hammer?

  6. Came back to the apt house last week to witness on the steps a Falang trying to deliver this kind of news to a lass who had enough luggage in tow to take a world tour. She was intent on moving in, and he were busy trying to explain "that's not what he meant"  She weren't no high end city girl, more a rough hew  country bumpkin with a leopard skin dress and heels.

Gawd it was painful to watch.

Off the edge sense of humor there Yoram!!

I Intended posting that he/they had a million opportunities to unload the bits, and probably never be discovered, but It's suggested he/they may not have wanted to do so.....weird beyond comprehension.

One would hope the corpse wasn't occasionally thawed and the 'relationship' continued.

O er to you Yoram for further comment.

Mumar Kadhafi was reported to have kept bodies of killed enemies of his like this and occasionally viewed them to gloat.

8 years?  A little bit of freezer burn there.  Ther is some suggestion that decomp continues also.

"babe, you really gotta wash that thang!"

  8. Many good tips here.

Having recently rebuilt an engine here, I was absolutely shocked at how quickly bare metal rusts here. Literally over night the engines' freshly honed bores started rusting, even with a liberal dose of oil applied to them. CRAZY. Similarly, tools do the same, literally overnight I've  seen tools go from bright shiny to covered in a film of rust. The humidity, and the daily heating and cooling leaves a residue of condensation and  seems to dilute and wash away protective applications of petrol based protectants. The condensation also contains minerals and thus plays havoc this way in promoting corrosion and rust. This also occurs on electrical contacts and connections.

    Do all that you can.

  9. Ya just seems so odd. Not a newbie, not an amateur in negotiating this culture, and then "not to be his self". Obviously some trouble, but to not reach out for help, even if self inflicted trouble....

And  as someone else said, just too many possibility to speculate, but with as big a presence as he has, someone must know something. I'm surprised the uni doesent put up some reward money for information leading to....

  10. "Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

Therefore I say unto you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.

  11. Was sitting at the beach the other day and a couple of Thai guys had these things blowing smelly (to me it smelt awful) smoke (I know its vapor but it looks like smoke) all around the place. It was very inconsiderate of them and disturbing not only to me and my mate but others around us. Yes they should be banned from public places not because of what they are but because of what they do. Same goes for those stinky BBQ pork 3 wheelers where the vendors wear masks to protect them from the smoke but are quite happy for the general public to suffer with it.

    /quote

I fine the smell of burning pig flesh quite wonderful. And the smell from these vaporizers much better than cigarettes. Thailand is full of smells, and bound to be, by its nature. Perhaps you need a ticket out.

  12. Pesky foreigners sticking their noses in and making us work!

yes, some skeletons in the closet are being rattled.

the nvader group moved a well respected kiwi lawyer to bkk, hopefully rellgion is not their driving force, but getting some big fish would be a bonus.

Skeletons? Nay,,,, those boys are alive and well, and getting a giggle at the Farang do gooders.

Doubtful any on the THai side are at all stressed. And it gives the do gooder Thai wannabes ( the investigating committee) some busywork to make them feel good and some face making cred.

The 'way of things' here is damn near encoded in the populace DNA, and re enforced over millenia.

Outside do gooders or do badders are nothing more than occasional pest. Moving right along....

  13. so what about silom, soi nana, soi cowboy, pattaya, and others thousands place selling sex? Or are they just after Mr K.?

There are regular raids of bars and gogos in all the areas you mention. If they find foreign or underage workers fines and closure orders are issued. One gogo on the 3rd floor of Nana Plaza has been closed for months.

What is newsworthy is raiding a Thai owned soapie that while having some foreign customers, is primarily used by rich Thais.

Rich Thais? Nataree? I patronized that place. Never saw any rich guys and the girls, service, and price was definetly not "high end" A few of the ritzy ones are in the area though.
