  1. Great post Swissie.

    I agree with the girls.

There is a very small chance that things will get better but doubt it will return to how it was in the old days.

I left here in 2005 as I could see big trouble coming.

Returned 2 months ago in the hope that there will be some kind of a renaissance or something good coming.

  2. Why would tourist come to Thailand and pay as much for a restaurant meal and a beer as they would at home?

Because the Issan hooker (from the OP) he takes home, after dinner and the beer, costs 1/10 the price of a western girl and is 10x more attractive (not to mention 1/2 the age and 1/2 the weight).

Does it have to be an Issan hooker? I think not. Your fractions also seem to be out.

Most tourists don't come here for food and beer? Really?

The reason the ladies have no work is simply cost. What can be had else where is becoming cheaper and safer from scams.

I don't frequent such areas but hear what goes on from some that do.

Your talking about sex tourists, single males, usually middle to low income.

World wide slow down over 7 years only now just beginning to slowly come out of it.

Supply and demand as in any business, too many girls for the clients on offer pure and simple.

As the Buddha said nothing stays the same, there will be good times followed by bad times followed by good times etc etc..

  3. Was born and raised in NYC and never realized how good I had it.

After the kids were born, had to work 2 jobs to make ends meet.

Must admit that I really didn't like this part of my life as it was in the 70's and wife didn't want any part in it.

"We're married with children, no sex, drugs or rock n roll for you"

The marriage counselor explained it all to her and I left.

Divorce followed but got back up on me feet and started a new life.

Had a great time actually; Until I retired.!

Pension barely covered the essentials and locked me into my old, rent-controlled, apt. ($550. monthly) which I would loose if I moved.

Market rents.were $1,800 to $2,300 for a 1BR back then and now range from $3,500.to $7,500. monthly in Manhattan.

Started relocating to lower cost cities through out the US and was not impressed, to say the least.

Checked out some big cities too, which I really couldn't afford:: Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood-FL, San Antonio, San Diego, Seattle, Portland-OR, Atlanta, Las Vegas just to mention a few.

Coming from NYC; no place excited me EXCEPT BANGKOK.

Please note that my trip to Bangkok was during the Thaksin reighn which left a bad taste in my mouth and LEFT in 2005.to wait it out.

So, this is my second try here.

Having arrived in July of this year, I do get the feeling that Thailand is having a Renaissance or some kind of new beginning and happy to be a part of it

I'm here on a Retirement Visa and plan to stay as long as possible:

At my age and medical condition, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll are out of the question.

So,what category of expat do I belong to in for this forum.?

  4. Thaksin gives the Red Shirts good advice , " Play Dead " , keep your heads down , don't make any trouble .

I think it best for the military junta to continue in government for the foreseeable future, at least all is quiet .

It is a pity about the economy , but we forget that the Baht has been greatly increased in value relative to other currencies since 2006 , which cannot be helping the market .

    Thanks Toscano

    A great post !

  5. He is a real nasty man who fooled and used the poor farmers for his own ends-I actually met him in Chiangmai-he shook my hand and smiled but his eyes were as hard as steel!

Did you know that he was a class mate of George W. Bush who offered him asylum in 2006 but TS said, thank's georgie but I have to get to London to start an insurgency. The US is too far away.

Guess those Ivy League schools teach a lot of Megalomania?

  6. You really do want enteric coating for daily aspirin.

Why? I ate for a longer while 500mg every day in the morning and never a problem.

I have taken 81mg aspirin etc for twenty years ... now I have to take a PPI as I developed ulcers ... get the coated ones.

Thanks, my sister is a nurse and warned me about that so, do that the coated ones.
