  1. Here is an excellent article on locating free legal music,

    http://www.lifehacker.com/software/geek-to...-web-136578.php

here is a search example on google for mp3 directory, just insert band/artist of your choice where I have "CLASH"...which was and always will be a band of my choice. It was my first show when I was 16....it was an "eye opening" experience to say the least. Except of course when I was closing them because everyone was spitting... :o

    -inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:"index of" +"last modified" +"parent directory" +description +size +(wma|mp3) "Clash"

just go to google. If you go to the link posted above you will find the search "method" and a bunch of other sites, links, searches.

    :D

here is what the CLASH search above got me,

    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=U...%29+%22clash%22

  2. My favorite is the egg scrabbler http://www.ronco.com/rco_prodinfo.aspx?pid...or=&active=desc

    More at          ronco.com

LOL, thats great I bet it works well too. Mr. Ronco is a marketing guru.

Have you ever had an egg shatter on you and bits go flying all over the kitchen? :D

What I need is the perfect auto 3 min egg maker, I never get it right. I think you have to go to England to get it done right, Could be an altitude thing. :o

When I was living there back in my teens I ate them all the time, I think it was because I liked snapping the tops off with the cracker.

  3. ...I had Goldfish as a kid and they would eat till their eyes popped out if you kept feeding them.  Considering they have a short term memory of 3 seconds I find it hard to believe they do that because of Greed.

Maybe they think after 3 sec: Oh, food! Why not eat something, can't remember when I had my last meal...

    LOL, thats probably exactly why!

I still wonder how scientist figure out that kind of stuff?? :o

    Fishbowl Maze? :D

  4. Karl Marx and Engels did all their best work at the pub, not only that I think the French Revolution, Hitler and quite a few others had movements that started in the

    "Pub". :o

Not to mention more benign activities like writing Alice in Wonderland (Lewis) and The Hobbit (Tolkien), much of both were written in Oxford pubs.

    cv

Many a pint in said mentioned pubs in Oxford!! :D

Pudgi - you should have stopped after post 1, however I admit I am enjoying the deeper hole you are digging yourself, keep posting. :D

I dont think even the DUDE himself with 10 shovels could help Pudgy out of this one.

  5. I believe I responded to your previous comments in a respectful, non-derogatory manner.  Yes, I made reference to a "barstool", but that was just to state the general fact that the world is rarely changed from the end of a bar

Karl Marx and Engels did all their best work at the pub, not only that I think the French Revolution, Hitler and quite a few others had movements that started in the

    "Pub". :o

The Beer Hall Putsch was a failed coup d'état which occurred in the evening of Thursday, November 8 to the early afternoon of Friday, November 9, 1923, when the nascent Nazi party's Führer Adolf Hitler, the popular World War I General Erich Ludendorff, and other leaders of the Kampfbund, unsuccessfully tried to gain power in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. (A putsch is the German equivalent of a coup d'état, or the revolt of a small number of people, e.g. a military coup.)
He(KARL MARX) and Frederick Engels were a pair. They used to go pub-hopping along Tottenham Court Road. There were eighteen pubs, and they vowed to visit each and every one. By the time they got to the last, they were drunk enough that they began to throw cobblestones at streetlights --- until the police came running. To avoid being caught, they ducked down alleys and jumped over fences like a couple of rowdy schoolboys. O these kids!

*note, its always good to support ones blovation with examples that are factual and verifiable. :D

Ive nothing personal against you except the fact that you bloviate too much and contradict yourself a lot, which doesnt do much to support your POV.

  6. Cant believe the Furb is still around, but then again so is the Teddy Bear.

I think KING KONG is going to be huge this Xmas with boys and girls.

Unlike "Godzilla" which I think is more attractive to boys, Kong has an appeal to girls in that it is really a love :o story.

  7. OK, Ill call your  bluff, give me 5 examples of what YOU consider oppurtunities that have come your way.

I cant wait to here them.

I reckon a number of us could come up with 5 examples. In my case it was:

    1. Working for a relatively progressive branch of the Thai Govt

    2. Meeting members of the royal family

    3. Writing a book

    4. Representing Thailand at an international seminar

    5. Writing a column for a national newspaper

    6. Being interviewed for a cable TV channel

    7. Writing a speech for a political heavyweight

    8. Being an executive at a leading public company

None of this came about because I was given automatic respect when I got off the plane or mixed with hi-so people. It was more a matter of having some skills that people needed, and being in the right place at the right time.

It's a lot easier to carve out a niche for yourself as a farang expat who speaks Thai. Obvious examples are Jonas, the Swedish guy who became a mor-lam star and Tod Lavelle, who was/is a popular musician and celebrity.

LOl, waste of time considering the thread is about being given special opportunities because cough-cough one is a farang in Thailand and wouldnt have those opportunities in their homeland.

You proved my point exactly, in fact you said it ,

None of this came about because I was given automatic respect when I got off the plane or mixed with hi-so people. It was more a matter of having some skills that people needed, and being in the right place at the right time.

But hey, thanks for the resume!

  8. Greed is exclusively human.

I think you are confusing "greed" with "ambition",  hookers are Greedy,  Jay Leno likes really nice cars and worked his ass off playing 2 bit comedy clubs for 20 years before he hit it big and got the Tonight Show gig.

Why do some animals if given the chance and unlimited food, eat themselves to death?

I dont know, why dont you ask one.

I think you are confusing Gluttony with Greed.

Right, I'll go ask one, they will probably look it up in "The Animal Dictionary" where it will be listed as "Someone who keeps wanting more than they currently need, except (of course) for food".

I think you are of the belief that the word Gluttony takes the place of Greed always when referring to food, which is not the case.

Nah, I only said that because the definition of gluttony is,

    glut·ton·y (glŭt'n-ē)

    n., pl. -ies.

    Excess in eating or drinking.

and because Greed is defined as,
    greed (grēd)

    n.

An excessive desire to acquire or possess more than what one needs or deserves, especially with respect to material wealth: “Many . . . attach to competition the stigma of selfish greed” (Henry Fawcett).

Since you seem to dig the animal analogy perhaps you would be better served with as story about nuts, and how Squirrels will stash more than they need to make it through the winter!

I had Goldfish as a kid and they would eat till their eyes popped out if you kept feeding them. Considering they have a short term memory of 3 seconds I find it hard to believe they do that because of Greed. :o

  9. I have PM'd the prick my number. Its guys like this maggot above who every time I hear that crap at a restaurant, I want to reach over and smack ###### out of em.

heres the pricks posts, learn about this knob  :D

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?ac...sult_type=posts

Anger management problem? You might be able to find many people who will tell you what a great guy you are and how that "maggot" deserves it....but....in truth your anger comes from you and not him....seems you do not manage your anger very well.

    HEY! Why I oughta.... :D:o

  10. Many of us (including myself) come from poor backgrounds and we probably never really got a fair shake in our home countries. We certainly didn't have much of a shot at making an impact on a national or HISTORICAL level.
Oh booo hoooo hoooo, everybody has a shot, just ask FAMOUS AMOS!

    amos.gif

    Wally Amos 1936-

    King of Cookies

Wally "Famous" Amos was born in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1936 and attended the old Lincoln High School. His parents divorced when he was 12 years old, so he moved to New York. He attended the city's Food Trades Vocational High School, studying cooking. But he dropped out at age 17 to join the United States Air Force. He spent four years learning to fix radios, first in Biloxi, Mississippi and then in Hawaii. Back in New York, Wally worked at several jobs, supporting his family, and attended business school. Finally, he earned a job with the famous William Morris Agency, as a Public Relations Manager. The agency promoted the careers of actors and actresses. Wally worked with Bobby Goldsboro, Dionne Warwick, Patti LaBelle, and other star performers.

While working as a manager for the William Morris Agency, Wally began baking and bagging chocolate chip cookies. He used a recipe from his Aunt Della, with whom he lived in New York. His clients loved the cookies. Several suggested that he open a cookie store where they could buy his sensational chocolate chip cookies.

Wally Amos did just that. He began the first in a series of FAMOUS AMOS CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES stores. He became as famous as his chocolate chip cookies.

Wally Amos sold most of the business. He does not fix Air Force radios anymore, but works as a volunteer for LITERACY VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA. Literacy Volunteers are unpaid workers who give their time to help others learn to read and write. As a literacy volunteer, Wally Amos said "You cannot succeed, if you cannot read." He is helping the estimated 23 million Americans who have not learned to read and write.

  11. I agree with what the OP has written in nearly all points. The points I dont agree with, dont really matter as that is his own beliefs.

There are great opportunties in this country, positions that would never be attainable in our home countries. It doesnt have to be a position of power, just some great standing amongst a community who does not know your background or education.

My own story is a little long, so I will leave it out. I will say though, that you should really think about what was written in the first post as it quite factual and thought provoking.

edit - I will say though, if bar girls, late nights, hangovers daily, wearing no shirts going into government buildings, using bad Thai language and being a holiday maker for the rest of your life suits you, well thats fine to. Each to their own.

For the others, put on a shirt, mix in good circles, date some class and have a plan, you will go further here, than you ever could at home.

LOL, you are the most superficial person Ive had the displeasure of reading in a long time.

I could do the same thing anywhere.

If I wanted I could throw on a nice pair of pants, shirt and head on down to the local POLO match trolling for widows.

but this is the really funny bit,

For the others, put on a shirt, mix in good circles, date some class and have a plan, you will go further here, than you ever could at home.
They just opened a male whore house in Vegas, perhaps you should throw on your best GQ clothing and by a ticket to VEGAS.

The first post in a nutshell was a about someone being a total loser in ones home country being able to move somwhere nobody knows him and getting respect he does not deserve because nobody in the new country knows what a loser he is.

You dont have to move to Thailand to do that, all you gotta do is move to another city.

Mix in good circles? lol , yeah that will last a few evenings till somone calls your bluff and you have to pull out your financial statement when your new rich wife sees her credit report shot to shit by the fact that you have a paper trail of misery behind you.

    :D

    <flame removed>

LOL, I think the lil fella is off his rocker, his PM...

    <flame removed>

    Physical threats on a forum.

You should be banned, but then again you have so much influence and status now I bet the Admins are scared they will be fired if they do because you will tell your well dressed pals. :o

  12. My take on this is that alot of Americans were this way even before the internet was around....the internet is just a tool that helps them to see the mindless world they live in.  Like any tool, however, it can be used or abused....if these people use this tool then they will start down the road to a better life....if they abuse this tool they will just wallow in their crapulance.

internet being just another victim of american tendancies to blame their problems on others..... :o

    Yawn.

But thats understandable, you live in Guatemala, but thats owned by a Cuban American, and I know he considers himself a Cuban before he does an American.

  13. bkkmadness you know me very well now :o

just look at the news in England and on ebay around the world and see how much intrest there is in the xbox 360.

When the PS3 comes out every kid will want one, including me.  I see many from China selling to UK cause they can.  When the PS3 comes out in Japan first, people will pay crazy money in UK to have one first.

Something to think about and aim at for the next couple of months.  Seeing where I can buy and how many they can sell me, cause they sell :D

I dont know how to be anymore clear, the PS3 will NOT be out in a few months.

Ive worked at Sony 3rd party and EA(rs) Redwood Shores and talk to people there weekly.

    PS3 Next XMAS.

That being said they will be very expensive and probably have limits of one per customer with lines 2 miles long in JAPAN.

  14. Pudgimelon,

You do appear to be overly concerned with status even though you are doing your best to deny it.  Also you seem to be concerned that people are not becoming people of "consequence" when they arrive in Thailand....this is almost the same as status....just a slightly different twist.  Thinking that farangs could change the destiny of Thailand also is just another shade of status.

In regards to becoming a person of "consequence"....the actions needed to become a person of consequence are pretty much the same thing everywhere in the world.  Coming to Thailand is no more an opportunity to achieve this "goal" than living anywhere else....Thailand is not a land of golden opportunity....you don't get a new life when you arrive here...and most importantly you do not shed your old self the moment you arrive either.

I think you are wrong on both points - here you can make your life how you want it to be. There is so much opportuntiy here. More opportunites have come my way here in 8ish years than in my whole life back home.

OK, Ill call your bluff, give me 5 examples of what YOU consider oppurtunities that have come your way.

I cant wait to here them.

  16. Wow, active thread!

This disparity in pay is everywhere.

I recently read a story in the paper about how much some non-profit CEO gets paid.

One example is "the $785,446 compensation package earned by the head of Portland's Goodwill Industries"

This non-profit employs many disable worker for less than the minimum wage of $5.15 an hour.

Now, this is ridiculous, if you want that kind of money, get out of the non-profit business.

In the high tech industries, it's normal for CEO to get paid 200-400 times the rank and file salary. Personally, my CEO gets paid 560 times more than me and I make comfortable money.

Worst thing is I keep hearing for the past 3 years, oh economy is not that good, here is a 0.5% salary increase.  :o

    *rant off*

Thats your problem, you're reading biased politically oriented papers. I can only assume that because any average joe can go to the financial page and clearly see that the economy is booming.

  17. Are you sure about the high status bestow on a Farang upon landing?

I'd guess most Thai people wai farang first because they expect the farang not to know

how to wai and is just showing them the welcoming spirit.

Kind of like Aloha in Hawaii, you know.

I guess based on a survey of one that is a fair conclusion.....the one being American? And we all know how good they are at working out foriegn cultures....

As for the Wai thing...is it not possible that different areas have different approaches?

Certainly there are people do not know or practice the finer points of social mores and manners in all countries.

Wow, you give him a hard time for being a survey of ONE, but you are "WE".

LOL, how many people are typing with you.....right now?

    Meds?

  18. Still, if you are playing mainly FPS then I would still suggest a CRT monitor.  I have a Samsung 19" Syncmaster 193P LCD monitor and its pin sharp for text, graphics, photos etc....   But just doesnt do justice to fast moving FPS games.

Those 8-12 ms response times are better than LCD's used to be,but its still not as good as CRT.

8ms is fine for gaming, I love my Samsung.

The response time on your LCD is: 20 ms , which would not do justice to FPS games.

8 to 12 is the norm now, and Id never go back to a CRT.

Also make sure you have a video card that has DVI input, its digital, you will never have to mess with color settings etc.

A good DVI cable will cost you so try to find a monitor that includes it.

  19. EBAY is going nuts over the XBOX 360 the prices on there are Crazy.

Where in Thailand can you get cheap electronics, or can you get them easily from Japan or China?

The PS3 is comming out soon, to those who don't know what that is. It stand from Playstation 3 made by Sony.  They always release first in Japan, then America, then Europe.

The key is where in Asia can one pick up one of these bad boys before they are launched in the US or UK?

Ummmmmmm the PS3 wont be out for another 10 to 12 months.

Sony has announced a Spring launch date :o:D but considering Sony's history with meeting launch dates and the fact that they havent figured out how to get the cost of Blue ray DVD player down from the 800 to 1000 dollar range I wouldnt hold my breath till spring.
