  1. As you say, it is up to each one of us to behave as he sees fit and to seek whatever he wants in Thailand. It is a pity, though, to see some of the loutish behaviour that lets us all down. I don't dismiss it as a characteristic only of the young. I think that it's more the product of a repressed Western background -

    Repressed WESTERN background?

    :D:D:D:D:o

Compared to what? Thais throwing napkins on the ground to get a footprint?

  2. And all you have to do is dress the part, aim a bit higher when seeking a mate, and behave in a courteous, humble and polite way (in other words, show some manners).

In return, Thai people will give you that precious, wonderful gift called: Opportunity.

Could you please explain what these opportunities are?

    Provide some examples?

    Just curious. :o

  3. Greed is exclusively human.

I think you are confusing "greed" with "ambition",  hookers are Greedy,  Jay Leno likes really nice cars and worked his ass off playing 2 bit comedy clubs for 20 years before he hit it big and got the Tonight Show gig.

Why do some animals if given the chance and unlimited food, eat themselves to death?

I dont know, why dont you ask one.

I think you are confusing Gluttony with Greed.

  4. Greed dehumanises.

Greed also is solely responsible for the current global attempted suicide of said ex-humans. Greed destroys it's own environment and it's host, a bit like shitting on your own doorstep, just worse.

Admiring greed illustrates a lack of any vision.

    Greed is exclusively human.

I think you are confusing "greed" with "ambition", hookers are Greedy, Jay Leno likes really nice cars and worked his ass off playing 2 bit comedy clubs for 20 years before he hit it big and got the Tonight Show gig.

  5. What's your point? This is not about hard work paying off, etc.. It's about a huge income gap and social stratification. Do you think it's possible for any one of the maids/bus boys/clerks in the hotels to climb to a management position of six figure income. The system don't work that way. If a bus boy worked at the hotel 20 years, his salary wouldn't even reach 20k.

If a Busboy works for 20 years as a busboy he doesnt deserve to reach 20k.

Nothing disgust me more than the "self-entitlement" chip so many people carry on their shoulders these days.

Its simple, work your ass off, go to school, get an education, then get a job, continue your education......then go out and buy a DVD player, Mp3 player, TV, go to clubs, have children etc etc.

I know too many people who have worked two jobs to get through school eating Mac and Cheese for dinner 5 nights a week to ever feel sorry for someone boo hooo hoooing about someone who gets "paid more than me".

  6. It could be a heat issue, yes it could be dying. I had a viewsonic go bad on me, be careful CRT's can be quite nasty when they are in they are on the way out, mine started to hum, made a few pop sounds and I quickly unplugged it. Luckily this happened as I was downloading the new drivers for the Samsung LCD I was getting ready to hook up.

  7. Everyone has opinions, and the web simply makes it easier to share opinions. Before the net, it took quite a bit of application to get your opinions 'out there'. Now every idiot, like me, and the fately flawed OP article, can broadcast them.

Thing is, these seriously flawed opinions are normally posted at great length. Who has the time to answer all the holey points in all of them?

So, if any, one can only respond with short comments. Like what utter crap.

Excellent points ORE, reminds me of a quote,

This report, by its very length, defends itself against the risk of being read.

    -Winston Churchill

  8. "The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good.

    Greed is right.

    Greed works.

Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Greed, in all of its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind."    -G. Gekko

    :D

On that note Im really , really upset with myself for not buying gold in 2001 right before the war when I said "wow I should probably buy some gold".

    :o ....with myself... :D

  9. Hmmmm, Im surprised that you're able to dowload and install programs on an internet cafe's machine.

Have you gone to control panel, add remove programs and made sure its actually installing?

You should see J2se Runtime installed, you should also have a folder in Program files and Windows that say Java.

    Start there.

Oh yeah, are you installing SUN's JAVA?

http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp *make sure you get the right version for OS thats on machine. Do the manual download, save it to a folder and then run it.

The reason I ask is because you said "Virtual Machine" nobody installs that anymore.

Go to the link I provided and try to install if you've been doing something different.

  10. I siad the ones I know :o

The hardest part of the job of the  ones in Thailand i know ,is dealing with unrealistic and greedy Thai owners.

    Pretty cushy in Aus.

I bet if you followed that fine lady from Japan around for a day you would be tired at the end of the day.

Now if Im wrong let me know, Ill make sure to tell all the Interns that I know from Europe who are studying Hotel Management to head to Thailand.

  11. The thread lives beyond the show!

What I tried to get at on Thailand Today, was that the way the western mind works, criticism is inevitable. The western mind works in a analytical, critical way. We look at things, find fault and offer suggestions on how to improve them. Sometimes our offers sound negative. Sometimes they are! But it's how we think. We are taught critical thinking.

    Americans like to fix things.

  12. Because most american are ignorant of what really goes on over seas.  They do not expand their horizons to experience those things that can be better for you.  Good and bad both.  they are not well rounded and ignorance breed fear.:D

LOL, I would love to take a video into the hills of just about any country and do such a survey.

I wonder how many Thai Farmers could point to Miami on a map. :o

Your statement ignorant, and a product of fear.

  13. My take on this is that alot of Americans were this way even before the internet was around....the internet is just a tool that helps them to see the mindless world they live in.  Like any tool, however, it can be used or abused....if these people use this tool then they will start down the road to a better life....if they abuse this tool they will just wallow in their crapulance.

    Right on Chownah....

Same was / is said about television.

    YAWN....^^^^^ :o

LOL, it has nothing to do with "AMERICANS", this report just happens to be about Americans.

You obviously dont know anything about Americans.

What "way" do you think Americans are exactly?

In fact its much worse in ASIA!

  15. Hotel Managers

    They work????

    Really?

    Jingjing???

They might work to get there, but once there, most I know do diddly squat.

Aside from enjoying endless hospitality, free functions, travel etc etc.

The lowly paid  assistant  managers and accountants and marketing people work.

    ^^^^^^^

    Wrong! nuff said.

  16. This is not to pry into the personal lives of anyone specifically, I'm just curious what the average salary range actually is for TV members. I assume it's somewhere between 30-50k

Anyway what brought this curiousity up is yesterday I had a conversation with my GF who works clerical/sales at a 5 star hotel in Bangkok. She was telling me the salaries of some of her 'superiors' which really sparked something in me. I'm not usually prone to jealousy but when I heard the salaries of some of these elite in the hotel business, I couldn't help it

The Thai sales manager who's been working for 5 years or so makes 40k/month, which doesn't bother me.

But it's two of the main directors salaries that got to me. One who is Japanese, gets 140k a month!! So she can speak Japanese, Thai, and English. Pay me half that and I'll learn any language you want.

Her Thai superior gets 210k per month!! I'd have to work half a year to match one month. My gf would have to work more than a year. Does anyone else find such facts disturbing? :D  :o  :D

Maybe some people will argue that it's their right, and they're worthy of such money. I can't seem to find any justification for such wealth knowing that 1000 other Thais have to be getting paid 5 thousand baht a month so that one or two elite can get that much.  I doubt they work any harder than anyone else and assume it's just the financial gap stratification at play.

Do you know how hard it is to run a hotel? The hours they put in on average are 50+ per week. The fires they have to put out on a daily basis lead to a high percentage of Hotel Industry management having alcohol "issues".

Restraint, House Keeping, Reservations, Transportation, Group Sales and Events,

Security, Customer Service, etc etc. It’s a huge headache. They deserve every penny they get and it has nothing to do with JUST being able to speak many languages.

Your "doubt" about them working harder than anyone else are unfounded and simplistic.

  17. Russian squirrel pack 'kills dog'

Squirrels have bitten to death a stray dog which was barking at them in a Russian park, local media report.

Passers-by were reportedly too late to stop the attack by the black squirrels in a village in the far east, which reportedly lasted about a minute.

They are said to have scampered off at the sight of humans, some carrying pieces of flesh.

  18. Thanks Brit, for all your support. It is much appreciated. The numbers for the station are really surprising, considering we are just an internet affair, and the email keeps streaming in.

    Thanks again, dude!

I listen to your Station whenever I visit Thai Visa.

    Thanks!

Ill try to remember to click on your site so you get more hits!

    Cause hits are gooooooood.

  19. Fellas:

Just came across this article.  Those of u undecided about which console to get, read this.

    http://cube.ign.com/articles/670/670078p1.html

    Turok

I'm tellin' ya that controler is gonna kill it. I just don't see how you can play the old games on it and that is their marketing ploy.

I couldnt agree more, it will be a nightmare for Developers because they will not be able to easily port games for multi-platform release's. Worse than that it has CARPAL TUNNEL written all over it.
