OK it sounds like it should be no problem. I guess I was concerned that I might have to pay taxes to bring gift items in. Last time I bought some candy at the airport it was sealed as duty free, so it made me think about it.

I'm bringing my girlfriend a 20" suitcase and figured I would just carry it on the plane. Since I don't need it for clothes, I'm planning to load it with gift items like cookies and chocolate and knick knacks. Is there going to be a problem with doing this when going through customs? ( I understand the liquor and cigarette rules.)

Too futuristic? It sounds like not enough knowledge.
How ever, If you want your girlfriend and you to can chat and talk in phone without paying to much you have a great choise.
First you will have to see that your girlfriend have a fairly good Internet connection. No chat in the world is going to help you with that.
After that you just use Skype or Line in which you can both talk and send messages for free. How to set up that you will find clear instructions on respective pages.
As for the Internet connection as I understand is the problem, you might have to try different mobile operators for finding out wich one is best for her.
Another solution can be to ask her to check for wifi hotspot in the area where she lives. Sometimes there is good connection with that. Normal price for a connection of that kind is about 100 bath a month.
I hope that might help you om your way to have nice conversations with your girlfriend.
I am ahead of that part...
Trying to 1up the program brother. She has a phone but I don't think there is any other option because we chat at her home not at a hot spot location. I want to set up something that uses her phone as a hot spot or something better (bluetooth sound like it to me)...

Ok so I am asking TV for advice on how to set up an internet chat environment not because you are gurus (I can go to howard or Tom's for that). I just want to know what you do to chat- both in or to Thailand. My GF has a phone and nothing more. She lives in a Bangkok apartment. We chat but the signal is not great and it is sort of a chore the way we talk. I doubt there is any wifi or cable internet, etc. in her home. So I am going to buy her a new phone and am trying to find out how to chat with her so that she doesn't have to use the outdated crappy service with the camera on her hand. So I was thinking of buying her a phone and a bluetooth handfree setup that she can set on a desk so that we can chat.
Does this sound too futuristic?

It is expensive but easy. There are much cheaper ways.

Sounds like they are excited that you are paying and so order a lot of items that sound good and can't finish them...

What I learned on this TV forum today:
Too many of the members are too old to understand how the internet forum edit function works...

Watch out for giant rats. I saw 2 on my last trip. They look like the size of a rabbit.

That info is nice to hear. Hopefully somebody can confirm SCB won't charge the receiver of the funds to pull the money out. I looked up the info, and I believe the transfer is ACH and Chase bank doesn't charge fees on this like a wire transfer.
-
Update: The bank I am trying to send to is SCB. I looked up some old TV information and saw something about receiver fees. I'm also wondering if Chase Bank will charge me a fee for the transfer. I received some fee changes notice recently but wasn't sure what it was actually for.
-
It appears to be a great price for wiring money. I see $2.80 USD as the total cost to send $100 USD (currently $100 sends 3444 bht). The exchange rate appears to be the standard rate as well. I'm wondering if there are any issues that I might need to be aware of such as whether the money can be received easily and whether my account is at risk. The time frame is not a big deal as long as it gets there in a week or so.

My phone has Thai language. I had to translate "Thai" on google to know which choice it was.
-
Ok, so it appears that there is no difference in phones between US and Thai. I have already used my own android unlocked, ATT, lollipop phone with true move and it appeared to get 4G ok, so I'm not really worried if the phone will or won't work. I am just trying to wonder if the girl I give it to will be able to use it like the one she has. In other words, will checking the box for Thai language make the phone a "Thai" user phone? (will they be able to navigate everything and use apps the same) I think she has an older android. I'm looking at <$300 USD for one on sale like maybe an LG G4.
And for the guy wondering why I don't get a cheaper phone, I am trying to upgrade the video quality/ pic quality when we chat and get her something nice in the process. She has a cheap service that's probably 3G. I hear that phones are everything to Thai girls. I figure it would be a lot cheaper to get her a new phone and service then try to get her home internet service and a tablet/ camera/ computer.

If I give a Thai person a US purchased android phone, can that person then use it the same way they would use one that they bought at the mall in Thailand? I know that I can change language on the US model, but I am not sure if it will convert over to be used like a Thai phone would. Anybody do this?

thanks sent them a message.
Anybody else?

If I get dropped by the ferry, how can I get to Ao Nang by bus or songthaew?
-
I guess I mean Ao Nang. That's probably where I'm going.

I'm trying to decide how long I should stay in March. Is it a lot quieter than Phuket? Are there many fun bars?
-
Good, I'm an alcoholic and need some rules to keep from burning out too early.
-
Is that 2-5 ban for all of Thailand all year long? I haven't heard of it until now.
-
This is some good advice. I heard all of you guys. Thanks. As for the bar girls, this isn't about quick sex. I'm trying to improve my game and Thailand sounds like a place that I will be more comfortable with doing it. Then maybe either I'll meet somebody that I like or I'll get better at playing. It's all fun though so if it doesn't pan out then I'll only be out a few bucks. I'm not the type to be taken advantage of easily.
The one thing that scares my though is the girls that bring there friends along on the dates. Is there a good way to deal with this BS?

I'm thinking about buying Thaicupid or Thaifriendly. Does anybody here use them and if so what plans do you recommend for someone visiting on vacation? 1 month? longer?

Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico.
Any idea what a small used car would cost?

I am toying at the idea of one day buying my girlfriend a car, but it would have to be reliable and not a million miles. Any suggestions?
