Tonight I am heading out with a few thai friends.

They said they will give me pointers on how to be more thai.

I will observe them, see what they do and try and copy.

  2. BTW- I’m just doing a border bounce right now on my valid visa. So, I don’t have much to report because I didn’t need to go to the consulate. But I teamed up with the British fella I met at the border to enter Laos, shared a tuk tuk, dropping him off at the consulate and me a bit further to my hotel (100 THB each). Met him for brunch because he was in and out. Like 6-7 people in front of him. He was talking about Savannakhet not giving one year ME (marriage) visas and the need to now show 400k in the bank and seasoned. He had it, but only for a few weeks and they accepted a copy of his bank book, updated the day before.  I missed the reports of Savannakhet now requiring proof of funds.  He was successful, though.

you can do a 60 day 'visit Thai wife' extension 1 time per entry into Thailand, but they may ask for a tm30 to have been done

Can you do this after the visa expiration date?  Like re-enter just before the actual visa expires, then extend the 90 day permission to stay by another 60 days?  That would be 17 months on a one year visa!

i’ve never heard of that, but I met a guy in Savannakhet last night that said yes, one can.

TM30 impossible for landlord is ridiculous. However you can do yourself as possessor. Would require cooperation from landlord for few docs.

In any event should not be required

Landlord claims it is impossible to do online, but will go to immigration and do it for 500 THB, which isn’t bad. That’s about how much a round trip taxi costs for me.

  5. Hello, forum!  I asked a question about the TM30 three months ago.  I apparently didn’t get through all the replies because I had cataract surgery that came along with an infection.
Anyway, I just revisited my previous post andot raised more questions than answers.  Keeping in mind I am on a Multiple Entry Non-O based on marriage WITHOUT 400k in the bank and have been exiting and entering every 90 days to renew my extension of stay, here they are:

    1.  Can I just get a 90 day extension at immigration, instead of exiting and entering?  One commenter said this could be done. I was oblivious to this option. If so, what exactly do I need to do so?

    2.  Does a TM30 still need to be submitted?  I got a mixed bag of answers on this one and it seems the ones saying I need to do it thought I was on a single entry, although I stated in the OP it was ME Non-O based on marriage (Multiple Entry).

Please note- Upon reentry, I will be returning to my residence that I rent from a landlord (kinda the middle-man between the actual owner and myself). Oh, landlord says the website to report my residency doesn’t work in Nonthaburi province, which is the province I live in with my Thai wife).  Someone said there is a newer website to try. So…

    3.  What is the newest website to report my residence (if needed), and what exactly do I need to do it myself in case the landlord still claims it is impossible.

    Thanks in advance!

  6. I was thinking about this recently. I have been accidentally overcharged at 7-11, etc and caught it a couple times.  I do believe it was accidentally. But much more often, they have forgotten to ring up an item. I don’t really pay attention, or count the money, investigate the receipt, etc. but several times over the years the price was way too low and every time I have pointed it out and paid the correct price. Or getting way too much change back. Not doing so is the same as stealing, IMO. And I could rest easily those nights, knowing I had done the right thing.

I actually worked at a 7-11 in the US the summer after I graduated HS. And have bartended for many years. If the cash drawer is short, the employee pays with their own money and I expect it is the same here.

p.s.  I know it’s not the same thing, you were charged for a mislabeled product. You still did the right thing. Kudos and good Karma to you!

    You are correct.

The OP is on continuous extensions, don't understand why he needs a TM30.

Perhaps it's immigration office specific same as CM.

It was my understanding that we used to have to do this when traveling even inside of Thailand, then a couple years ago, only when one would enter Thailand from another country.  I definitely could have missed some news about this nonsense.  I could be flat out wrong.  Please enlighten me.  And to be sure TM30 is proof of accommodation/residency, correct?  Furthermore, if so, it is the hotel, bnb, condo or apartment manager's responsibility, yeah?   Not mine?  I travel a lot these days and I feel I am paying a penalty every time I come back.  500 isn't much, but it has added up to a lot.

To answer the question in the heading - Yes.

She want's the rental money, but doesn't want to comply with the Thai legal requirements associated with renting, I may be wrong in this but I do not believe you are required to submit a TM30 every time you return to your home address (even from a visit abroad).

I believe you are wrong. At least partially.  From what I understand the hotel, landlord, etc is obligated to report the TM30 upon arrival. However, I can’t understand why I have to pay for ir every time I get back home.

  9. I am in Nonthanburi Province.  I am on a Non-O based on marriage.  I have been renting this same condo for several years.  My landlord (not the owner), claims she cannot register a TM30 (proof of residency) online because the system doesn't work.  I have to go myself with my wife, which is about 500-600baht in a taxi for the total fare, plus a few hours of a day.  The alternative is to hand my passport over to my landlord and give her 500 baht.  I have been doing this for a few years now, every 90 days or so upon exiting and entering the country.  500 isn't too bad since I don't keep my savings in a Thai bank and I pay or a little more just to get to the immigration office, plus the time it takes and I am not super excited to deal with immigration and drag my wife with me.   However, is it not the landlord's responsibility to register me rather than my responsibility?  Should I really be paying 500 everytime I enter Thailand?  Does anyone know how this is not possible to do online in Nonthaburi?  I didn't mind the first few times, but this has been going on for years.  Any insight is very much appreciated.

Living nearby, I'm hoping middle eastern odour is more appetizing and flesh more yummy for hungry lions than poor farang scent.

Safe enough as long as you smell less appetizing than Ahmed

Lions don’t like the smell of curry B.O.  He may have been Indian, perhaps?

  11. I stepped into a hole in the sidewalk on a dimly lit street in Pattaya and twisted sprained my ankle badly. I saw the same thing happen to another guy in BKK, and once to a young Chinese female tourist. I had to piggy-back her back to her hotel because her male friends were too small and/or in confusion and shock.

i have literally stopped pedestrian traffic in BKK before I had cataract surgery because my vision wasn’t good and suddenly there was a wire or hanging tree branch inches from my face.

For those of you, and there are many, blaming this guy is ridiculous.  Tourists, expats, or Thai citizens shouldn’t have to worry about live electrical wires or other deadly wires hanging down where harm can be done.

If it was a twelve year old girl walking to school and lost her eye and half her face, would you make fun of her?

    What a bunch of aholes.

Glad the fella got away with a deeply cut hand. Could have been much worse.

  12. I have a wife here and a large family back home in USA. My mom wants the remains. What would happen?  Burn me to a crisp and send an urn back home?  I am guessing yes, so is there a legal process that you or anyone knowsnof?  What really happens to foreigners that die in Thailand because there seems to be a good handful according to the news.

  13. What happens if you die in Thailand, especially if you have no insurance to transport the body, remains, or ashes back home?

I am particularly interested in if it matters what country you are from and the cause of death.  We are always reading articles about drunk foreigners falling off balconies (I get it.  The last hotel I stayed in had a balcony that I could rest my testicles on if I wanted), motorcycle or other road deaths, suicuide, murder, just natural causes, whatever.

I’m just always reading about these deaths and they never include a post-mortem plan or follow up, and I giess I shouldn’t expect them to as maybe it is common knowledge that I am ignorant of.  I suppose it is a sensitive subject.

What if I was to jump off some high balcony with a suicide note?  I am American.  Does it depend on the embassy?

p.s.  I am just curious and in no way implying that I plan to commit suicide or die unexpectedly in any way.

  14. Alright. I agree to take the rest of the month off from beating my Thai wife. December will be a blood bath. Lol 555. Please don’t take this comment seriously. Just joking.  I will bind and gag her fir November and give her two black eyes for Christmas.
Seriously, what kind of country does this?  Don’t beat your wife or children for 30 days?  Then green lights for the rest of the year?  TIT
