  4. This story came up tonight...

The woman in question will apparantly be one of twelve women going to Russia to work as caddies, she doesn't even have to go to the Russian Embassy to get a visa as a Thai agent is taking care of everything !

It sounds very fishy to me and I have advised the women to forget it, she cannot even speak English let alone Russian.....

She has previously paid 20,000 Baht up front to these people who appear to be arranging everything, at first it was meant to be going to Poland to pick fruit, now the people have changed it to Russia.

I really think it's women trafficking, anybody have any knowledge of this ?

She is supposed to get her Visa on the 29th and fly out on the 3rd of next month.

She has been told she will earn 40,000 Baht per Month. Personally I don't believe it, does anybody here have any true stories that will convince me 100% that it's certainly a con. I'm already leaning that way with a 95% feeling it's dodgy.

No stupid remarks please, this girl is not a Bar worker or sex worker of any kind, and never has been, ( That's before the TV slating of her can begin with speculation.)

BTW, 2 people, a Thai man and Thai women are the recruiters.

Why go to polan to pick fruit, when all the polish fruitpickers go to sweden norway because there are no work i poland, and a girl from korat did the same and stayed there 3 year before she managed to escape with help from som people and the embassy, the russians are well known to be human traffickers

  5. Hi all I'm British and 42 years old, living in Chonburi. This site is very impressive

Basically my Visa ran out 4 months ago and I am terrified, I've been told not to worry just go airport pay 20,000 bht and get plane to No.1 Jalan Tunku, Malaysia and get a new non immigrant visa.!

    My Questions

Is it as easy as I have been told ??

I only have 50,000 bht will this cover, does anyone know the right price ??

Any advice is much appreciated ??

    Can I get a multiple entry ??

Will I get thrown out of Thailand cos I have my home here and few investments ??

I have been living in Chonburi, Thailand for the last 3 years now on non immigrant 'B' Multi Visa's and usually do the Cambodia 90 day extension then pop back to UK on the final few days before last stamp runs out just for 2 weeks to get me new 'B' Visa sorted........

END of last year I was advised to this office where I met a lady who could speak very good English, she told me because I had 3 years

of non immigrant visa's in a row that she could get me a 1 year residency visa and with this I only had to go jomtien every 90 days to sign in & all for a cost of 25,000 bht She even introduced me to a Swiss Guy she had just sorted and showed me his passport. I Paid the 14,000 deposit, (Friday) went to the bank, and Jomtien with her to sign papers so I was sure it was all good, had a call later and she said it won't be completed until Monday, another on Monday saying it was a special day & that jomtien weren't working, Tuesday

she had been involved in an accident which took 3 weeks for her to recover now I was worried because I knew if she had not done anything my Visa had finished. Anyway she phoned and said could she send her boyfriend round to collect the remaining 11,000 bht

I said sure as long as he brings the passport back finished, didn't hear from them again so 1 week I phoned no answerer this went on for another 2 weeks then not even a ring tone, trying for the last 3 months. Ha Ha and the office I met her in was no more, went on the hunt for days with no luck, in the end a friend of my girlfriend took her to the police cos she said she knew someone up quite high.

I did not go for obvious reasons. He told her they know of her as this isn't the first complaint and he would get it back for me ....eeemmmmmmm. Couldn't believe it 5 days later it's in my hand. Never thought I'd see it again. (Lost the money though 34 k) Many thanks in advance Pat.

Them all part of the scam The office lady, the police and i guss he got 10000 of it only to deliver your passport back. Houndreds of similar stories from the shit place pattaya about this scam houndreds

that could be best described as 'self regulating'.

    Should the boat be salvageable, she might not be sailing under Dive Asia's flag in the future;

but she will certainly not be sitting idle in Chalong Bay...

Thank you for the well written post. At least your concern about the vessel being used again has been answered by the report of it's being broken in 2. (I assume that occurred when it hit the bottom.) Do they do structural analysis here after a boat is located to see if there was inherent device/defect? What if the boat's sinking was caused by a structural breach when a wave hit it? That info might be of use if the "shipyard" built similar vesels, or am I delusional? This is going to be very hard on some people when the bodies are not recovered. At least a proper investigation would offer some closure and perhaps prevent a similar tragedy.

I am however very surprised by Dive Asia's apparent lax SOPs [standard Operating Proceedures] when reacting to a late boat.
The boat was not expected back in port untill around 08.00 in the morning. So it was not missed until then as well.

I am ignorant on dive boat practices, but wouldn't it make sense to be calling in to the office every so often and reporting the vessel location? When we would go out into the bush, we had to radio in every 6 hours to provide our co-ordinates and condition. With the current satellite technology and gps, surely there are affordable systems that can do this for a small boat. I'm just curious as to the practice for sea vessels since I know squat on marine operations.

It really is a blow to tourism if you look at the type of people that were on that boat. These were the visitors you want. A week doesn't go by when there isn't a thread in TV lamenting the negative aspects of the tourist trade, and here is a positive activity that ends in tragedy.

Do they not have plotters that report to somewhere or same device as a black box on planes ? i dont' know

  7. Well, I only get back to the USA every few years. The price of good cigars being so ridiculously high in Thailand, and the selection of pipe tobacco so miserable, I'm planning to bring back a good supply--for personal use only of course. And this would likely be in excess of the 500 g limit.

I've never been stopped at Thai customs as I sail through the nothing to declare lane. Truly, I've never had anything to declare, so I wouldn't care if they stopped me.

So, question is, should I take a chance on not declaring my extra smokes or declare them? In theory, if I declare them, they can just confiscate them, even though I'd be glad to pay the duty--I think the regulation is that NO excess tobacco can be brought in w/o prior permission from the Bureau of whatever. But in another thread, somebody said he declared them but was waived on through after he assured them the smokes were for personal use.

Or maybe I should abandon the plan and stick to the lmit. :o

  8. I have a question also, I bought a 1 2 Call Freedom Simm card on a 25 th of January 2009 and credit for 100 Bth, and had to use up the credit in 5 weeks, which sounds ok, then I top up at 7 11 for 100 bth 5 days ago and shows up that I have to use it up in 7 days. Called the customer service but it is very hard understand what they are talking about, so basically what I understand from her is that the credit expire in 7 days. It is strange because my mate have the same Simm and his expiration is 5 weeks. Anyone out could give me a suggestion or answer please?

    Thanks,

    Stefan

    This seems to explain why:

"300 baht top up credit will extend validity by another 30 days."

    From here:

See if there's some promotion you can switch to or something. If your friend's SIM is old it might be under different terms.

The cheaper promotion or free sim wich they give out, the more promotion sms you get and shorter validity, why not buy a decent sim card around 200 from dtac and it will last for a year from the date you put in money

  9. Mr. Pongsakti said if the committee finds any building to be substandard, it will be closed immediately and strong legal action will be taken against the operators or the owners even if they are influential persons.

I will believe that when i see it.

strong legal action will be taken against the operators or the owners even if they are influential persons ( I think they mean this time not always, and not if they are part of the government
