  1. You leave this thread for one day and it's all about screwdrivers and bloody marys!

Personally I go for a double vodka with a single Malee/Tipco/Juice or why not with absoultely nothing else just to heed my scandinavian urges. I do have a recipy for a nice liquorice vodka if anyone is interested. Made from local products of course.

  2. I meant: "At last!" in the beginning there but I was thinking about starting up at thread about the Olympics at the same time and then my mother in law called so I lost track.

Anyhow, the opening ceremony is pretty good. Is it alright to do a local "who beats who amongst the Chiang Rai expats" kind of deal regarding the OG?

  3. At least! A bit of a fiery thread. Even though it had to be about fruit juices that aren't even flamable. Is that with two flammable "mm"s? :o

It doesn´t even take a person from Stockholm (I´m not from there) to deduce that any liquid sold for a higher price than that from where it is harvested must mean a serious factory bypass, thus higher prices. Why? Well, it´s consumer friendly and that´s why people buy it.

I just find it so ridiculous in Thailand, where the country is still "udom somboon", and the fruit is ripe on the clock every year in amounts that we sometimes find overwhelming. Thinking about when oranges are 10 baht per kilo or so. Ever seen 100% freshly squeezed orange juice in a super market here? Was it cheap? For me it´s no no. I don´t mind the labour but it is interesting why someone would go through so much trouble of making so much fruit become less in amount and higher in price just because it looks good?

    Oh, capitalism. That´s a thought.

  4. I take a similar stand on CP products but didn't know this about Malee. But then again I do not buy juice that often and rarely Malee. Isn't basically Malee juice and the other brands just the same as SunQuick but less concentrated? Better off buying the latter one in that case. Unless SunQuick is evil as well of course.

  5. Hmmm, but is that not the discounted ones with an expiry date waiting to sneak up on you within the next few days? Or have they actually lowered the prices? I don't understand why fruit juice (100% fruit juice made from concentrate of course, it sounds good at least...) is so expensive anyways.

  6. Yes, that´s how I did it as well Scea. I tend to like Vientiane so I try to stay a few days extra if it´s outside the weekend.

I have never managed to get to the Thai Consulate on the first day ever so I tend to check in and go there the next day. For the ones with the cash, you don´t even have to go inside the consulate, just pay like 5000 baht for single tourist visa from one of the crooks outside. But, I personally would rather spend that on some good food and Lao beer.

I have previously taken a big bus straight to Udon from Vientiane but stopped doing that since you have to wait for everybody at the border and that can take a huge amount of time. Just take a tuktuk like scea says and on the Thai side there will be plenty of transportation to Udon.

Well, I guess there are plenty of information about this in other threads.

  7. No worries Limbo! We will run into eachother soon enough, but just to put some pressure on you there is one of them that I would like to frame but it' s absolutely no rush about it and I can wait at least one more year or so! PM if you're in town some night, I do tend to check thaivisa every day.

Sorry to digress overlords of internet!

  8. Ja! Thiz ist ein big probleme. I cannot underztand vy they haft to make so much problemen all the time! They zhould put zome advetizements in "Die Welt" for reeeel kraftmanschip people mit some of der precizion!!!

Ach ja, ve all remember the renaissance of the mechanical vatch at the end of the 1980’s vhich iz yet another victory for the finest and most Germanic of all traits, the German precision principle.

Seriously, relax people! As long as you can drive around what's the big deal!? 65 million people, tropical climate, poor tools and skills. It doesn't even take 2 years to realize and just take it for what it is.

  9. I know that trial and error really isn´t the best way to go when it comes to this but I think it is probably the easiest if you have a quiet area to practice in by yourself and then take it to the main roads.

  10. Is it the Ruamit Thawai Road that is after the general hospital road (sathan payaban road) going south on Phahonyothin? In that case the shop is just in the north corner of the T-junction of phahonyothin and ruamit. I don't think there is a sign in English, the shop is small and I'm not even sure if the guy speaks English. To make things even more complicated there is only one name in English on his business card and that's "Measuay Camera" so make sure you look for that if the Thai script is beyond your literacy.

He had a lot of Canon EOS D20 for sale apparently but since I'm a Olympus guy I could not take his offer. Worth mentioning is that I have never bought anything there but wanted to check it out today since Big Camera didn't have what I was looking for.

  11. Hello!

Today I went to Big Camera in Big C and couldn´t see the Olympus SP570 model anymore. Well, I didn´t actually ask but saw that instead they had the new E510 model. Now, regarding the two of them I would only buy the E510 in order to break Sven with a newer technofantasmo gadget.

I will check on them tomorrow again and have chat but meanwhile I ask for other dealers in CR. I know of Chiang Rai Camera but he is mostly good for second hand cameras and fixing them although he can get new compact cameras from Panthip Plaza in Bangkok if you´re interested.
