  1. Are these headphones designed to be worn whilst riding a bike ? Hence posting it in the " Bikes in Thailand " forum ? ;)

Maybe one of the Mods would like to move it to the appropriate forum  You may get a few more replies :jap:

  2. I think it is only banned in marine parks. There are a few spear fishers here on Samui. it is frowned on by a lot of people. :ermm: Nothing really around Samui. A little off KPG and some good spots around Tau. There is also some good spots around Khanom so I'm told as well. There are a few big game fishing companies on Samui that might take you along ? Mr Tu's is one that comes to mind. :D

  3. Why don't we make a day of it:

Sweeney Todds for a late breakfast then into the village for an afternoon session in The Emerald followed by a trip up to Bangrak for a curry in Havelis ending up in The Premiership bar for the evening.

All food and drink provided by our wonderfull sponsors?:jap: :partytime2::guitar::burp:

    Sounds like a great day

    That' breakfast sorted ;)

Just need to hear from lunch and evening entertainment then :D

Have a safe trip SBK. Enjoy. I would say " While the cats away " etc but no doubt you can crack the whip from the other side of the world with your IPhone :(

  4. One last thing, am I the last person in Thailand to find out I can get; True Vision, platinum package for 300 Baht a month via the internet?

No you the last but one as i have no clue, but if you would be so kind to share that info that would be great

    Cheers

    BKK

You don't want to know. believe me. True is bad enough as it is with it dropping out when it rains but to rely on a good connection through the internet is just expecting too much. I have enough teeth grinding trying to read and post on TV never mind trying to watch streaming satellite :D

  5. It varies from some diving instructors in there for working without a work permit on Tao to 35 years for shed loads of methamphetamine. They do reckon it is one of the better prisons in Thailand so not many want to get shipped out. The prison is designed to hold 240 people and at the moment there are 525 people in there. The Farangs all share 1 cell with no beds just a blanket and thats it.

A proper prison which the Government in the UK should send somebody to study and copy ;)

  6. I go up regularly as it is just up the road from where I live. You can go Mon, Wed and Fri 9am-12 and 13-16 for male prisoners and Tue and Thur for female. At present there are around 23 Farang prisoners in Samui prison.

You need to know the name of the person you want to visit. You just need to take along your passport for ID purposes and as all the forms you need to fill in are in Thai knowing how to fill them in is a good idea or take along someone who can read Thai ;) Food is most welcome as are books but a lot of toiletries and cigarettes have to be bought or rather paid for, at the shop in the prison. If you would lke any more info drop me a PM

    :D

Sounds like a plan to me :D

    When ?

  8. You may ride it for years and get no hassle at all on the other hand it just takes you to have an accident and it will cost you are great deal more than getting a legal bike will cost and the first BIB that stops you and takes a fancy to your ride you lose it. simple as that. The last time I went to the Hat Yai bike meet there were several guys there that lost very expensive HD's at a police check point en route.

There are plenty of legal bikes out there and some are very cheap at the moment.

Up to you as they say here though ;)

  9. As the guys have said just walk away or offer him / her a fraction of what they are asking and if it gets lifted after a while you haven't lost so much. Personally it stinks to high heaven. I had a friend in HH that bought a similar bike. A week later he gets stopped and the bike is impounded. A couple of months later it is again up for sale. How many times has this happened ? :o No numbers means the bike is dodgy. No book but numbers and receipts is a different matter but still expensive top sort. I would honestly look for a bike with a book and all the numbers match. There are plenty out there for sure ;)

  10. I'm not trying to say that diesel engines in boats are a bad thing. Far from it they are a great thing. The point I am trying to get across is a boat like the one in question has been designed to be propelled by the motor that is fitted to it. dropping in a pick up diesel as was being suggested isn't going to make it much of a boat. A dedicated marinised diesel engine is another thing in question.

My friends supercharged, turbo Volvo Penta diesel engine cdrtainly shifts his rib at a rapid speed and the economy is far better than any outboard.

  11. The beauty of the Phantom is that you can take it to any small Thai bike shop and they can service it, fix it, mod it and get you any accessory that you want with ease. Back box, panniers foot plates etc. Just find the nearest bike repair shop near to you and that's all it takes. :D

  12. Bartman I downloaded 10 30 min TV programs and 3 movies last night no problem. It is busy down loading more TV today. As said it is far quicker than the TOT land line and it appears they do not throttle torrents like TOT sometimes did. Haven't tried youtube yet but otherwise a good deal all round and it might not go down as much as the TOT ADSL used to do. :D

  13. Easter is a Christian celebration. Thailand is mainly Buddhist. The few Christians that are here will no doubt celebrate it but it is not the commercial time of year like back home where they just want to sell you expensive chocolate eggs. I haven't seen an easter egg yet ;) Thankfully :D

  14. After getting nowhere with TOT concerning getting my phone and internet back on, it's now 3 weeks, and people stealing around 100 meters of the cable every day I have called it a day with them. One of the guys at the bottom of the mountain lent me a CAT CDMA stick and I was very impressed. I'm getting around 2.5MB's a sec download speeds, max 3.1MBS and they have a special promotion on at the moment. 2,500 baht for the modem and SIM and unlimited downloads is 720 baht a month. Whih is far better speeds than I was getting with TOT and I can use it anywhere and around the same price :D

    Bargain

The CAT office is next to the PO in Nathon.

  15. Anyone know where I can get a security grill made to spec and installed for a window here in Samui? There was a thread a while back on this topic (2009) but info probably out of date now,

Just measure up the window and drive round till you see one of the many stainless steel gate workshops or metal shops that are littered round the island. They will soon knock you one up and fit it as well if needed.

The house has been fine as I think the dogs keep them away but theroad up to the house has been targeted lately. They have stolen around 1.5 km's of telephone cable over the last week or so. The BIB have been up to have a look and TOT are not in the slightest bothered by it as they have yet to come and put the cable that is left off the floor and back on the electricity poles were at least it is a bit more of an effort to steal.

  16. Just been talking to one of the organisers of the Chiang Mai Toyride and as far as he is aware all of the people involved including himself have work permits so they remain unaffected by any of these developments.

So all the people involved in the charity ride have a work permit that states that riding a motorcycle for charity around CM is their occupation ?

    YEAH RIGHT !!!

Like a lot people here I have attended charity and community events like reef clean up's and by rights I do not have a work permit to do this activity but the chances of the immigration busting me for it are slim as are the charity riders.

Immigration guys may be a pain in the neck sometimes but even they wouldn't stoop that low as to bust charity riders :o

  17. I don't think for 1 minute that Joe is advocating nor condoning illegal behaviour here he is simply stating the facts of life here in Thailand and nothing more. It is how things work here ;)

In my experience I bought a motorcycle from the Triumph dealer in BKK. It didn't come with a plate and I rode it all over Thailand without any problem. I simply had the receipt from the showroom. The police that did take an interest in the bike only wanted to have their picture taken whilst sat on it. I have also looked at the plate on the car and can find no embossed stamp or anything like one so ?

I would just move the plate from the back and get a " replacement " one for the back :D

  18. So my friend in HH who was volunteering that got arrested, jailed, deported and blacklisted was just making it up then ?

I also know of many other people who volunteer and do so with no problems. Would you rather the OP was told the truth or just told your blinkered version of reality ?

You RISK getting arrested, and deported and it is as simple as that. To say otherwise is wrong.
