  2. A close acquaintance of renowned Thai comedian Jazz Chuanchuen has been issued with an arrest warrant for making off with several items from Jazz’s extensive shoe collection, worth over 300,000 baht. Min Buri Police Station Chief, Police Colonel Kris Komnoi, stated that investigators had gathered evidence, particularly from a social media livestream by the individual claiming responsibility for the break-in and theft. This evidence has led to an application for an arrest warrant from the Minburi Criminal Court for burglary, involving property damage intended to prevent entry. The court has granted the warrant. Pol. Col. Kris further revealed that the suspect admitted during the livestream to committing the crime and distributing the stolen shoes. The investigative team has been urgently tasked with apprehending the suspect to proceed with legal action. Once captured, the suspect’s fingerprints will be compared with those collected at the scene to confirm their identity. The investigation has unveiled that the suspect, a 40 year old man, is a close associate of Jazz Chuanchuen’s family and internal family conflicts might have been a driving factor behind the theft, reported KhaoSod. 9. Mae Hong Son village assistant assaults wildlife officer Photo courtesy of KhaoSod Authorities in Mae Hong Son launched a severe disciplinary investigation against a village assistant for leading a group of 20 locals in a brazen attempt to free two suspects from wildlife officers. 10. Authorities in Mae Hong Son launched a severe disciplinary investigation against a village assistant for leading a group of 20 locals in a brazen attempt to free two suspects from wildlife officers. The incident, coupled with the seizure of firearms, methamphetamine, and animal remains, sparked a potential dismissal from the position of the village assistant involved. A bold confrontation erupted in the forests of Mae Hong Son when a village leader and residents intercepted wildlife officers to claim two individuals accused of forest arson and assault. The Mae Hong Son Governor has ordered a swift inquiry, which could result in the assistant’s expulsion, while the police station in Pai is handling the criminal case, following the altercation. Before the incident, between Sunday at 8.30pm and yesterday at 5.30am, a patrol unit from the Wildlife Sanctuary in the Pai River basin was on a night mission to extinguish forest fires and apprehend offenders in the Mae Nam Yan forest area. They encountered a hut approximately 200 metres from a burning site, where they found a man, Ta Ae, who later revealed that another man, Ja Nu, was responsible for setting the fire. At Ja Nu’s hut, officers found firearms, methamphetamine, ammunition, and various animal parts, indicating illegal hunting activities. However, upon bringing the two suspects to a designated location in Nong Khao village the next morning, they were met by a group led by Wirat, the village assistant. The group forcefully took the suspects and seized all evidence, injuring the officers in the process. This act has led to ongoing disciplinary and criminal investigations. Despite an overall decrease in air pollution compared to the same period last year, the incident reflects a persistent challenge in combating forest fires in Mae Hong Son. The deputy governor highlighted that while most of the province’s efforts have successfully reduced haze, a small number of individuals continue to cause harm by illegally setting fires, affecting the majority, reported KhaoSod. Local authorities have been instructed to proactively address the issue and foster community cooperation to prevent further occurrences of forest fires and related crimes. 11. Chauffeur poses as youth welfare officer to rape 13 year old girl Photo courtesy of KhaoSod A chauffeur of the Service Centre for Disabled People in the Isaan province of Udon Thani posed as a youth welfare officer to lure a 13 year old girl into a rape. 12. A homeowner in Uthai Thani was in for a shock when she received an electricity bill that surged to over 5,000 baht, a steep increase from the usual monthly payment of around 300 baht, following the installation of a new digital meter. Despite complaining to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), the issue remains unresolved. A citizen from the Uthai Thani municipality reported receiving an unusually high electricity bill after only one month of having a new meter installed. Residents of a rental property in Uthai Mai subdistrict, Uthai Thani province, have been living with a manageable electricity bill of roughly 300 baht monthly. However, this changed abruptly for 48 year old Chalerm Sak (surname withheld) and his son after their meter was replaced with a digital one as part of a province-wide upgrade. The new system, which displays consumption in digital format, initially didn’t raise any concerns for Chalerm until he did not receive his usual bill last month. Concerned about a potential power cut, he checked his previous bills and was stunned to find a charge for 1,084 units of electricity, amounting to a bill of 5,374.77 baht for February alone. Chalerm suspects the dramatic increase resulted from the meter change and posits a possible error on the part of the officials who recorded the meter reading. Adding to his distress, Chalerm’s income as a gas delivery worker is a modest 300 baht per day, insufficient to cover the exorbitant bill. Although he reported the issue five days ago, there has been no response from the PEA, reported KhaoSod. Interestingly, the electricity bill for March, delivered after the complaint, reflected the typical usage of around 100 units, equating to a charge of 322 baht. This suggests that the February bill was an anomaly. Chalerm now fears a power cutoff, admitting he does not have the financial means to pay the outstanding bill. In related news, an investigation conducted on February 12 at the Government Housing Project in Pattaya revealed an electricity meter tampering scandal. 13. A chauffeur of the Service Centre for Disabled People in the Isaan province of Udon Thani posed as a youth welfare officer to lure a 13 year old girl into a rape. He even sexually assaulted the girl in front of her two year old sibling. The victim’s mother, 31 year old Cat, urged Thai news agencies to help seek justice for her 13 year old daughter, Khaimuk. Cat stated that she filed a complaint with the police, and the case was handed to an attorney but there has been no development for more than 10 months. Cat revealed to the public that a 33 year old Thai man, later identified as Thanakorn Srikattanaprom, allegedly raped Khaimuk at his home in May of last year. Khaimuk stated that she engaged in an online conversation with Thanakorn for a week and met him at his home. Thanakorn asked her to have sex with him and she was afraid to refuse for fear he would hurt her. Cat said Khaimuk brought the matter to her attention, so she went to see Thanakorn to sort it out. Thanakorn told her that he was an authority from the provincial Youth and Women’s Welfare Centre and that this case could affect his career. Cat said she felt sorry for him and agreed to accept 70,000 baht compensation from Thanakorn. Cat added that she also forced him to sign a document promising never to have anything to do with Khaimuk again. Not authority, but chauffeur Thanakorn broke his promise and came to Cat’s house in June while she was away. Thanakorn sexually assaulted Khaimuk again, this time in front of Khaimuk’s sibling, aged only two years old. Cat said she would not give Thanakorn a second chance and reported the sexual assault to the police. Thanakorn dared Cat to take legal action, saying that his relative was an attorney, so he could easily escape the charges. Cat added that Thanakorn’s words seemed to be true because the case has not gone anywhere since it was submitted to the Office of the Attorney General. The director of the Udon Thani Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office (M-Society), Pranom Uttarak, stepped forward to clarify the case because the rapist worked at the Service Centre for Disabled People, which M-Society runs. Nevertheless, Thanakorn’s claimed authority was unfounded, he served as a chauffeur at the Service Centre for Disabled People. Pranom reassured Cat and her daughter that he would undertake a comprehensive investigation into the matter and ensure they received appropriate compensation. No report has been provided regarding the delay in the case or any potential involvement of Thanakorn’s relative in the Attorney General’s legal proceedings. 14. Thailand’s car industry hits the brakes: Production plunges 20% With a significant decrease in production, Thailand’s car output experienced a 19.28% year-on-year slump in February, with the total units produced amounting to only 133,690, as reported by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). 15. With a significant decrease in production, Thailand’s car output experienced a 19.28% year-on-year slump in February, with the total units produced amounting to only 133,690, as reported by the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). The numbers, attributed predominantly to the reduced production of pickup trucks and increased imports of electric vehicles (EVs), starkly contrast the 12.46% dip recorded in January. Marked as Southeast Asia’s leading hub for automobile production, Thailand serves as an export base for major global car manufacturers, including Toyota and Honda. Pickup trucks form a crucial part of their manufacturing portfolio. Despite the gloomy figures, the FTI maintains optimism, forecasting 1.9 million vehicles to roll off the production line this year. This projection comes on the back of 1.84 million vehicles produced in 2023, which represented a 2.2% year-on-year decline. As for car sales in February, the FTI’s automotive industry division reported a total of 52,843 units, reported Bangkok Post. In related EV news, major automobile companies are forecasting a rapid escalation in the Thai electric vehicle (EV) market, propelled by increased investment from Chinese EV manufacturers. This is anticipated to ignite a price war as manufacturers strive to lure consumers with competitive pricing. This viewpoint was shared by Narong Sritalayon, the managing director of Chinese automaker Great Wall Motor (GWM), in a statement made ahead of the Bangkok International Motor Show. GWM has already commissioned its EV manufacturing plant in Rayong and is prepared to challenge other contenders planning to establish production facilities in Thailand. The company foresees a surge in competition within the domestic EV market as EV availability, predominantly from Chinese manufacturers, continues to expand. Echoing this sentiment is Thai-Chinese joint venture SAIC Motor-CP, the producer of MG cars. The venture foresees the potential for a price war among manufacturers due to the prevailing market circumstances, said Pongsak Lertruedeewattanavong, Vice-president of MG Sales Thailand. 17. A Thai singer filed a lawsuit against a Filipino TikToker for plagiarising one of his songs. The Filipino, Shad, allegedly put a translated version of the song up for sale without giving credit or obtaining a license. Drama emerged on Thai social media after the Filipino TikToker offered a translated version of a song by Chetkit “Phon” Thunmark called พี่ชอบหนูที่สุดเลย (I Like You The Most), under his name on various streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, and the South Korean application Melon. Shad released three versions of the song, including the normal, fast, and slowed-down versions, but never credited Phon or bought the license. Each version of the song is available on Apple Music for 19 baht each. Many netizens, especially from the Philippines, believed that Shad held the copyright to the song. Some even accused Phon of stealing the beats and melody from Shad, sparking controversy across social media platforms. Phon’s song, I Like You The Most, was launched about four months ago and went viral on Thai TikTok. Its popularity spread further among South Korean netizens after Chittaphon “Ten” Leechaiyapornkul, a Thai member of the South Korean boy band NCT, released a dance video with this song. Hannah Rosenbloom, a Laotian-American member of Thai girl group 4EVE, translated the song into English and released a video of herself singing it on her TikTok account. Shad later posted a video of himself singing the English version on his TikTok account and subsequently put his cover versions for sale on various platforms without crediting Phon. Thai netizens condemned Shad for allegedly stealing the work of the Thai singer, prompting them to contact music streaming platforms to remove Shad’s versions of the song. Phon publicly addressed the issue and confirmed that he is taking legal action against Shad for plagiarism. He recently shared a picture of an angry cat on his Instagram. “I only accept apologies in cash.” Shad’s versions of the song are still available on platforms, and he has yet to address the issue with his fans. Shad’s versions are now ranking second on the international Spotify Viral Song chart and the top of the Spotify Viral Song chart in the Philippines. 19. Former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s sudden appearance at the Pheu Thai Party’s headquarters has sparked intense speculation about his true intentions. To dispel mounting rumours, Phumtham Wechayachai, former Pheu Thai Secretary-General, clarified that Thaksin’s scheduled rendezvous on Tuesday was merely a gesture of convenience. “It’s not about control. It’s about respect.” Phumtham asserted that the visit was solely to facilitate interactions with party MPs whom Thaksin holds in high esteem. Addressing concerns of power play, Prime Minister’s Office Minister Puangpet Chunlaiad reiterated that the meeting held no political sway. “Every Pheu Thai member wants to see Thaksin, but it’s purely personal.” Deputy Transport Minister Monporn Charoensri highlighted Thaksin’s historical ties to the party, underscoring his natural inclination to reconnect with Pheu Thai MPs upon his return to the country. Thaksin’s unexpected appearance comes amidst a backdrop of health controversies and legal battles. After a tumultuous stint in prison, his recent parole and discharge from a hospital have raised eyebrows, with critics questioning the timing and motives behind his release. Ministers within the Prime Minister’s Office echoed similar sentiments, asserting that every Pheu Thai MP and party member harboured a fervent desire to glimpse the former Thai prime minister. Brushing aside claims of political significance, Puangpet Chunlaiad affirmed that visiting the 74 year old Thaksin at his residence would be impractical due to congestion. Deputy Transport Minister Monporn Charoensri highlighted Thaksin’s historical ties to the party, underscoring his intrinsic desire to reunite with Pheu Thai MPs upon his return to the country, reported Bangkok Post. Despite initial legal entanglements, Thaksin’s reduced jail term and subsequent parole have paved the way for his resurgence onto the political scene. Critics have been left questioning the rationale behind his extended hospital stay, while Thaksin himself has exhibited signs of improved health, symbolised by his recent pilgrimage to the City Pillar Shrine in Bangkok. 21. Phuket City police are currently investigating a violent incident on the outskirts of Phuket Town which resulted in a young man being shot in the foot, with accompanying reports of Molotov cocktails being hurled. The authorities were alerted to the event by the staff at Vachira Phuket Hospital, who reported a patient admitted with a bullet wound in his left heel at 12.20am today, March 26. Nanphiphat Srisuwan, the injured party, confirmed that the episode took place on Thepsrisin Bridge, linking Saphan Hin to Sakdidet Road in Wichit. The deputy superintendents of Phuket City Police, Thanturong Wuttiwong and Boonphob Thinbut, were notified and launched an inquiry. On examining the scene, police officers discovered scorch marks and shattered glass, presumed to be remnants of the alleged Molotov cocktails. Srisuwan’s friend, identified solely as “Diao,” provided further details. He recounted that a group of five individuals on two motorbikes, one a Honda Dream, the other a Honda Wave, accosted them as they neared Thepsrisin Bridge. He explained that they had been spending time near the Saphan Hin playground and were headed to a friend’s house in Wichit when the incident occurred. This group, according to Diao, began provoking them before escalating to throwing Molotov cocktails and firing shots. Srisuwan, who was riding on the pillion of Diao’s motorbike, was hit in his left heel. The law enforcement officials are now reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify and locate the individuals responsible for the attack. The Phuket police are not the only ones left in the dark. On Saturday, residents in the populous Thalang Town region in Phuket are set to experience a significant power outage. The announcement was made by the Thalang branch of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA Thalang), citing necessary repairs and maintenance to the high-voltage system in the area as the reason for the disruption.
