  1. Photo via TiKTok/ @phatara_2_66 By Petch Petpailin Two officers from Mueang Suphan Buri Police Station in central Thailand brought smiles to Thai TikTok users after a video of them acting as food delivery riders and buying food for a drunk man went viral. The video was shared yesterday, January 9, on the TikTok account of one of the officers, @phatara_2_66. The caption read, “No driving while drunk, so ordering police to buy food. #NoDrunkDriving #Police #PatrolPolice #MueangSuphanBuri #SuphanBuri.” In the video, the two police officers are seen parking their motorcycle outside the home of a Thai man and engaging in the following conversation: Police: “Wait, wait, what do you want me to do again?” Thai man: “Buy me Tom Saap (spicy pork rib soup).” Police: “Where is it?” Thai man: “Just outside a temple there.” Police: “You’re asking the police to buy Tom Saap? Where is the restaurant again? Outside that temple? For real?” Thai man: “Yes, please.” Police: “OK, then I’ll buy it for you.” At the end of the video, the officers are shown delivering the food to the man outside his house. The man thanked the officers and wished them career promotions and prosperous lives for their kindness. The police also warned the man not to ride his motorcycle while drunk before leaving. Not only did the drunk man appreciate the officers’ actions but Thai netizens also praised their helpfulness, even though it was outside their usual duties. “You really went and bought it for him! Haha.” “From police to Food Panda!” “You saved his life!” “You two are amazing! I was once ignored by police when my motorcycle ran out of fuel.” Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-10

  3. Photo via YouTube/ terodigital By Petch Petpailin A 24 year old Thai woman sought protection from non-profit organisation Saimai Survive after 10-months of physical abuse by her boyfriend. The boyfriend’s latest assault came after she refused to cook instant noodles for him. The victim, 24 year old Puttikarn, told the organisation that she had been dating her 27 year old boyfriend, Singha, for 10 months and that they lived together in a condominium in the central province of Pathum Thani. Singha exhibited abusive behaviour, attacking her during arguments and when he was drunk. Puttikarn said she was too afraid to fight back because her boyfriend threatened to ruin her life, claiming his father was a lawyer and his family had connections with influential politicians in the central province of Prachin Buri. He also asserted that he was not afraid of the police or any legal consequences of his acts. According to Puttikarn, Singha often insulted her father, saying he was just a powerless and poor vendor. He made the insult even though Puttinan’s father trusted and viewed him as mature man who could care his daughter. Puttikarn stated that a brutal assault on December 30 prompted her to stand up for her rights and seek justice. Her boyfriend returned to their condo after a party with his friends and demanded that she prepare instant noodles for him. When she refused, Singha became enraged and immediately attacked her. She secretly recorded the assault, capturing footage of Singha throwing instant noodles at her and repeatedly kicking and punching her. In an interview with the programme, Discussing, Not Arguing (ถกไม่เถียง), Puttikarn revealed that she had also discovered Singha was cheating on her. When she confronted him, he assaulted her in public before the aforementioned incident. Singha also participated in the interview with the news programme. He admitted to his violent behaviour, attributing his actions to alcohol consumption and his aggressive temperament. The founder of Saimai Survive, Ekkaphop Lueangprasert, told Channel 7 that he would coordinate with Khlong Ha Police Station to ensure the area around the condominium where the assaults occurred is monitored and to initiate legal action against Singha. According to similar cases of physical assault, Singha may be charged under Section 295 of the Criminal Law for physically assaulting another person. The punishment could include imprisonment of up to two years, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-10

  11. Photo courtesy of Pattaya Mail By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A chilling video of a teenager being savagely beaten by a gang in Pattaya has surfaced, prompting outrage and calls for justice. The victim’s family is seeking public help to identify the assailants, who are allegedly connected to local police. A 27 year old woman, Aris Sousa and her 17 year old nephew, Chitsanuphong, presented the harrowing footage to reporters yesterday, January 9, highlighting a pattern of impunity. “We fear the case will be overlooked because of their connections.” Chitsanuphong recounted leaving home at 3am to refuel his motorbike when he received a call from a female acquaintance asking for a ride from Bali Hai Pier. Upon arrival, he was ambushed by five to six youths claiming to be members of the Baan Chang gang. Armed with knives and wooden sticks, they chased him, beating him until he lost consciousness. The video, shared by friends, captures the brutal attack. Chitsanuphong is seen being kicked and stomped until unconscious, while a female gang member forces him to bow to her feet. He sustained a head wound requiring three stitches, severe swelling, and bruising. When he regained consciousness over an hour later, his phone was missing, and he managed to ride home to get help. The gang, notorious for terrorising Pattaya, frequently gathers at hotspots like Bali Hai Pier, Pattaya Beach, and Jomtien Beach. Despite previous arrests for violent crimes, including attacks with knives and firearms, their alleged ties to law enforcement have allowed them to evade severe consequences, reported Pattaya Mail. A formal complaint has been filed with Pattaya City Police, and investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-10

  13. Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Thai tourism stocks took a hit this morning as concerns mounted over a potential decline in Chinese tourist arrivals during the Chinese New Year. The drop follows revelations about a Chinese actor, Wang Xing, who was found in Myanmar and is suspected to have been a victim of human trafficking. This incident has cast a shadow over Thailand’s safety reputation. Leading the decline was Minor International Public Company Limited (SET: MINT), which fell by 4.07% or 1 to 23.60 baht, with a trading value of 606.73 million baht. Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited (SET: BA) dropped by 1.89% to 20.80 baht, while Asia Aviation Public Company Limited (SET: AAV) and S Hotels and Resorts Public Company Limited (SET: SHR) both experienced declines of 1.63% and 1.89%, respectively. DAOL Securities (Thailand) flagged concerns raised by the Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) about a possible 10 to 20% drop in Chinese tourist arrivals during the peak holiday period. Weekly arrivals, which averaged 181,080 during the Chinese New Year last year, could decline to between 145,000 and 163,000 this year. This could bring the total number of Chinese tourists in 2025 to 8 million—an annual increase of 19%, but lower than earlier projections. Analysts noted that stocks heavily reliant on Chinese tourists, such as MINT, ERW, CENTEL, and SHR, are likely to feel the brunt of the impact. However, resilient growth in arrivals from India and Europe is expected to offset some losses. DAOL Securities remains optimistic about the tourism sector, maintaining an “overweight” rating and recommending BUY for AAV, CENTEL, and MINT, with target prices of 3.60 baht, 44 baht, and 34 baht, respectively. While challenges loom, the broader tourism recovery is projected to drive Thailand’s overall arrivals to 39 million in 2025, a 10% increase year-on-year, reported Kaohoon International. Despite the potential drop in Chinese visitors, Thailand’s economy is set to light up like a firecracker this Chinese New Year, with spending forecast to rise by over 3%, according to the Economic and Business Forecasting Centre at the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. 15. Photo courtesy of NIDA By Puntid Tantivangphaisal Thailand Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin issued an urgent response to soaring PM 2.5 air pollution levels, which have breached safety thresholds in 14 provinces, threatening public health. Chairing an emergency meeting yesterday, January 9, Somsak revealed a series of measures to combat the crisis, which has affected 53 provinces since October last year and is expected to persist until January 15. “Prolonged exposure to PM 2.5 can cause severe respiratory, cardiovascular, and cancer-related illnesses. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with chronic conditions, face the highest risks.” To protect affected communities, the ministry has established 4,700 dust-free rooms across 56 provinces, including public health facilities, schools, offices, and restaurants. Additionally, 1,338 anti-dust nets have been distributed to bedridden patients and homebound individuals. Face masks and dust nets will be provided to at-risk groups, including outdoor workers and volunteers. A multi-faceted approach has been rolled out: Health screenings: Teams are conducting proactive screenings for respiratory, cardiovascular, and skin conditions in high-risk areas. Awareness campaigns: Digital tools and media are being used to alert the public, particularly high-risk groups like children, pregnant women, and the elderly. Work-from-home policies: Vulnerable groups are urged to avoid outdoor activities and stay indoors during peak pollution hours. Medical support: Emergency health teams are being deployed to assist hard-hit communities. The Public Health Emergency Operations Centre has been upgraded to coordinate a swift response. Residents are urged to monitor PM 2.5 levels, wear protective masks, and seek medical help for symptoms like persistent coughing or chest pain, reported Pattaya Mail. 17. Photo via Facebook/ เจ๊มอย v+ By Petch Petpailin A drunk foreign man crashed his sedan into a som tam vendor in Pattaya in the early hours of today. However, the foreigner’s Thai girlfriend refused to accept the blame, accusing the victim of faking his injuries, and having connections with a top police chief. The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Foundation was alerted to the incident, which occurred at the entrance of Soi Buakhao at around 5am, today, January 10. Rescuers, along with officers from the Mueang Pattaya Police Station, rushed to the scene to assist the victim, 58 year old som tam vendor Sakda. Sakda sustained a serious head wound and injuries across his body but refused to go to a hospital, stating that he could not afford the medical expenses. His papaya salad cart was damaged, and his kitchen utensils were scattered across the road. Nearby, a bronze Toyota Vios sedan with a damaged front bumper was found. The foreign driver appeared to be heavily intoxicated. He was accompanied by his Thai girlfriend, who also seemed to be drunk. The couple suffered only minor injuries. The Thai woman caused a commotion, allegedly swearing at Sakda and witnesses. She even attempted to attack police officers and rescuers. Protect foreign boyfriend The woman accused the injured vendor of crashing his food cart into their car and faking his injuries. She interfered with the first aid being provided to Sakda and tried to shift the blame onto someone else to protect her foreign boyfriend from facing legal consequences. She resisted arrest, claiming to know a high-ranking police officer in Pattaya and warning the officers that they would face troubles in their careers if they arrested her or her boyfriend. The police ignored her threats and took both her and her boyfriend into custody. According to Channel 7, a crowd of witnesses cheered, laughed, and applauded as the couple were arrested. At the police station, the woman claimed that she was the driver, not her boyfriend. She attempted to take responsibility for the accident but witnesses insisted that the foreigner was the driver. The police plan to review security camera footage to confirm the identity of the driver before issuing charges. According to Section 390 of the Criminal Law, the foreign driver may face up to one month in prison, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both for reckless driving causing injury. He may also face an additional fine of 400 to 1,000 baht for reckless driving that damaged Sakda’s food cart and other belongings. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-10

Photo via Matichon By Petch Petpailin A Thai man blamed a health issue after crashing his SUV into a motorcycle carrying a man and his six year old son, resulting in the boy’s death yesterday, January 9, on a road in the Saimai area of Bangkok. A motorcyclist riding behind the black Mitsubishi Pajero SUV managed to capture the fatal accident on a livestream video. The SUV was seen veering into the footpath on the left side of Sukhaphiban 5 Road before colliding with the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider, 55 year old Chumphon, suffered severe injuries as he was dragged along the road for several metres. His six year old son was also critically injured and later died in hospital. The SUV driver, identified as 55 year old Yingsak, continued driving after the collision. Witnesses and other motorists eventually stopped him 3 kilometres from the scene. Both left tyres of the vehicle had burst. Police conducted an alcohol test, which returned a negative result. Yingsak told police that he worked at a garage and was tasked by his employer to deliver the SUV to a client. He claimed that he was suddenly affected by a health problem, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the footpath. He stated that he then lost consciousness and could not recall the moment he hit the motorcycle. However, police intend to send Yingsak to a hospital for further alcohol blood tests to determine whether any residual alcohol from prior consumption remains in his system. Investigating police officers have requested that Yingsak’s family provide medical evidence to substantiate his claim of a congenital condition. The suspect remains in police custody but charges and penalties have yet to be formally issued. Based on a similar case reported previously, Yingsak may be charged under Section 291 of the Criminal Law for negligence causing death. The penalty for this offence is imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine of up to 200,000 baht. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-10

  21. Photo courtesy of KhaoSod By Puntid Tantivangphaisal A 62 year old man was reportedly forced out of his Nong Khai home by his wife and stepson, prompting him to walk barefoot over 500 kilometres to return to his hometown. A passerby found him and provided a lift, eventually taking him to a hospital. Police Colonel Ratapolchai Pensongkram from Chaiwan district, Udon Thani province, received a call from Chaiwan Hospital yesterday, January 9. Nurses informed him about an elderly man who had walked barefoot from Satuek district, Buriram province, aiming to reach his home in Phon Phisai district, Nong Khai province. The nurses were concerned as his feet were swollen from the long journey and provided medication to reduce inflammation. They subsequently contacted journalists to investigate further, revealing the man’s identity as Phon. Phon explained that he had lived with his wife in Satuek district for over 13 years. However, in mid-December last year, his wife’s son moved in from Bangkok. This led to a disagreement, resulting in Phon being asked to leave the house. When he confronted his wife, she sided with her son, leaving Phon feeling deeply hurt. On December 28, he left without any belongings or money, relying on police stations for shelter and temples for food. His journey was made more difficult by a previous leg injury from a car accident in his youth. Eventually, a local driving a sugarcane truck offered him a ride to Chaiwan district, where he was taken to the hospital by the police. Through tears, Phon recounted that he had worked as a general labourer and welder, giving all his earnings to his wife. However, once her son arrived, he felt insignificant and was forced to leave. He expressed that after 13 years, he felt his love was shattered. Following a heated argument with his wife on the night of December 27, Phon decided to return to his hometown in Phon Phisai district. With no clothes or money, he has been wandering for 13 days, limping and crying along the way. He intends to reunite with his grandson and has resolved to become a monk upon reaching his destination, reported KhaoSod. Source: The Thaiger -- 2025-01-10

The stolen items, including several amulets such as the Phra Phuttha Chinnaraj Indochina and Luang Pu Thuat, as well as a gold necklace and jade-embedded gold ring, were later sold online by her husband. The investigation began after a report was filed on January 6 about the theft of numerous amulets, valued at over 1 million baht, from a home. The complainant revealed they had hired a housekeeper before the theft, who stopped showing up for work after the items went missing. This led the police to investigate further, identifying Niphaporn as the housekeeper. She was found to be working at a shop in Mueang district, Khon Kaen province. Aran, her husband, had been posting the stolen amulets for sale on social media, and the complainant recognised them as the missing items.
