In a significant crackdown on illegal firearms, Bangkok police dismantled an expansive online operation, arresting 39-year-old Chotthanapat, implicated as the head of a Facebook group trafficking illegal guns. Authorities seized 19 firearms alongside a cache of ammunition. Leading the arrest, Police Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsawang and a specialised team apprehended Chotthanapat, known as Gib Phala, in the car park of Eua Athorn Lat Krabang 2. The suspect was charged with multiple offences, including possessing and selling firearms without permits, purportedly operating a lucrative business converting BB guns and distributing modified firearms online. Despite having served previous sentences for similar offences, Chotthanapat resumed his illegal activities upon release, utilising social media to market and sell unregistered firearms. These operations reportedly earned him between 200,000 to 300,000 baht monthly. Under surveillance, police discovered him using a white Toyota Fortuner for clandestine moves, leading to his most recent arrest. The police's vigilance highlights ongoing efforts to curb threats posed by illegal armaments, which pose severe risks to public safety. The public is urged to report any information concerning illegal gun activities, with authorities emphasising harsh penalties under Thai law for both sellers and buyers of unregistered firearms. Chotthanapat now faces extensive legal proceedings at Charoenkrung Police Station. File photo for reference only -- 2024-10-11- 1 reply

A 20-year-old woman was arrested in Bangkok for being part of a call center scam that swindled a retired teacher out of millions in pension funds. She was apprehended upon her return to Thailand. On October 11, she was apprehended by officers led by Police Major General Montree Teskan and Police Colonel Pattarawut Onchuay from the Crime Suppression Division. The woman, named Pornrat (last name withheld), was captured under an arrest warrant issued on August 28. Pornrat was accused of multiple offenses, including theft involving two or more individuals posing as officials, wrongful use of another person's electronic card, and computer-related crimes by distributing false information. The arrest occurred outside a dormitory on Soi Ladprao 101 in Klong Chan, Bang Kapi district, Bangkok. The fraud operation, which started in January, saw fraudsters call the victim, a retired teacher, at their home, pretending to be officials from a pension fund. They falsely claimed that the victim was due outstanding pension benefits. The culprits instructed the victim to add them on the LINE application to send a link to download an application. After downloading the app and interacting with the scammers, the victim's phone stopped working. Upon regaining phone service, the victim discovered something wrong and checked their banking app only to find that about 1 million baht (US$30,000) had been transferred to the fraudsters' accounts in two separate transactions. The victim immediately notified the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, leading to the eventual arrest of the suspect. During the probe, Pornrat admitted to selling her bank account to the scam gang. She smuggled herself across the border in Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo province, attracted by a guaranteed monthly salary of 40,000 baht (US$1,200), free housing, and meals. But upon arrival, the conditions were far from what she was promised. She was kept under constant surveillance, not allowed to leave unattended, and confined to a small room with only an old fan. The job involved making fraudulent calls to Thai citizens from morning till night. On her conditions, she said: “The food was often bad, and if anyone tried to escape and got caught, they would be chained, beaten, and in extreme cases, electrocuted until they lost consciousness." The dire circumstances forced Pornrat and others to flee back to Thailand, leading to her arrest. Pornrat has been handed over to the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau for further legal proceedings. Social Media Star Critiques Prison Food; Corrections Department Retorts File photo for reference only The Department of Corrections has responded to criticisms leveled by popular social media personality, Nara Crepekathoei, around the quality of prison food. The Department of Corrections has responded to criticisms leveled by popular social media personality, Nara Crepekathoei, around the quality of prison food. Countering her comments, the Department stated that the food meets all nutritional requirements and undergoes daily quality checks. Nara called out the prison food as tasteless and unappetizing. These claims led to the Department outlining its food preparation procedures. From the Bangkok Remand Prison, there have been reports confirming that the kitchen team in charge of inmate meals always follows health and hygiene guidelines, managed by the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health. Nutrition experts at the Correctional Hospital within the prison have verified that the meals served to prisoners are nutritionally balanced and fit for consumption. Furthermore, the food and water hygiene at the prison was evaluated by the Chatuchak District Office, earning it a 'very good' rating in food safety. External organizations often conduct training sessions related to nutrition and food cleanliness for both the prison's staff and inmates involved in preparing meals, ensuring food is handled cleanly. The prison intentionally avoids using strong flavors in its meals to avoid increasing the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and kidney disease among inmates. Given to the different health needs within the prisoners, including the elderly and those with underlying health issues, this is taken into consideration. To make sure the taste of the food is acceptable, taste tests are performed daily by officials, healthcare workers, and selected inmate representatives. These reviews have generally revealed satisfaction with the food's flavor. Across all prisons and correctional centers nationwide, the Department of Corrections oversees a system to supervise the sanitary preparation of meals. Along with maintaining nutritional value, the system also ensures satisfactory meal quantity and relevance to the inmates' daily activities. Various external agencies perform regular quality checks on food and water, further reassuring the public about the attention paid to inmates' dietary needs. Nara also referred to an incident where she and Mae Tuck sold gold in a live broadcast. She gave details of how Mae Tuck was compensated but feared possible legal consequences. Though Nara provided payment specifics, original reports did not supply any additional information on this situation. File photo for reference only -- 2024-10-11

Royal Approval for 23 Gambling Activities, Including Bull Races and Mahjong File photo for reference only The Royal Gazette has made a new rule that allows 23 different types of gambling activities within specific time periods. The Royal Gazette has made a new rule that allows 23 different types of gambling activities within specific time periods. These include human-bull racing, boxing, wrestling, ring tossing, and mahjong. According to the news today, October 11, the Royal Gazette has issued Ministerial Regulation No. 46. This rule allows the following gambling activities to take place at specific times: human-bull racing from 7am to 7pm, boxing and wrestling from 12pm to 12am, ring tossing from 7am to 12am, and games like mahjong, point-based cards, and various other card games from 12pm to 12am on Sundays and from 6pm to 12am on other days. The announcement explains why this rule is important. It points out that the currently allowed times for animal fights or contests don't match with the usual practice of bull racing, which generally takes place at night. As a result, there is a need to set specific time allowances for bull racing to keep this cultural tradition alive. The changes in timing are aimed at honoring and continuing the tradition of bull racing at night, setting it apart from other activities. The rule ensures that cultural customs are respected while also providing a clear framework for other gambling activities. The goal of the ministerial regulation is to adjust the allowed times to suit traditional practices better and respect cultural activities like nighttime bull racing. The new rule is in response to the difference between current legal schedules and traditional ones. By setting specific times for certain activities, it helps protect cultural traditions and provides a structured approach to gambling activities. File photo for reference only -- 2024-10-11

A Thai woman remains in a coma in a hospital in Pattaya with a collapsed lung after her boyfriend brutally assaulted her after she failed to clean their condominium to his high standards. The victim’s friend, Thanankornkan “Pim” Boonlaeb, took to social media to expose the shocking behaviour of the brutal thug and urged netizens to help them seek justice. Pim shared pictures of her injured friend, 27 year old Phanpanat, with a caption that read: “My friend’s lung collapsed. You physically assaulted her and even forced her to clean your room. She had to crawl around to clean up. You beat her again after her cleaning wasn’t up to your standards. Don’t you have a heart? This is just a brief account because my friend still can’t speak.” Pim added in the post that the attacker’s mother planned to sue the victim, Phanpanat, even though her son was the assailant. She spoiled her son and supported his wrongdoing. The mother also refused to pay any compensation to Phanpanat. As Phanpanat is still unable to give an interview to the media, Matichon contacted Pim for more details. Pim said she included everything she knew in the post and had filed a complaint against the attacker at Mueang Pattaya Police Station. Pim said the man had not contacted her or Phanpanat since the assault. She expressed concern that the suspect might avoid punishment, which prompted her to bring the story to social media. In a related report, a Thai woman fled from the eastern province of Rayong to hide in Chon Buri after her cheating boyfriend brutally assaulted her when she asked to end their relationship. The victim said the man had two other wives and four children. According to the woman, the unfaithful boyfriend cut her face with broken glass, suffocated her with a pillow, strangled her with a chain, and beat her. He also threatened to kill her, pointing both a gun and a knife at her. Officers at Sattahip Police Station promised to arrest the man, but no further updates on the case have been made available. A heartbroken Thai woman sent her husband to jail after discovering he sexually abused their 13 year old niece, within their shared home in the Isaan province of Udon Thani. The devastated woman revealed she loves the girl like a daughter. Mueang Udon Thani Police Station officers were called to a house in the Nong Nakham sub-district to arrest the 53 year old rapist, Nattaphon. He was apprehended outside the house by a community leader and his wife, 49 year old Noi. Noi told police she had been married to Nattaphon for over a decade. She caught him in multiple affairs in the past but never imagined he would dare to abuse an underage girl. Noi said the girl was the daughter of Nattaphon’s sister, Ae. Noi and Nattaphon pleaded with Ae to allow them to keep the girl, expressing their deep affection for her as if she were their own daughter. Noi admitted that she was still feeling confused and shocked by her husband’s actions. In her statement to the police, Noi recounted the moment she discovered her husband in a compromising situation. She explained that she had noticed some suspicious behaviour and had been keeping a watchful eye on him. One night, she heard him get up and head to the bathroom, but there was no sound of running water or any indication that he was using the facilities. Concerned, Noi decided to investigate and discovered that he was no longer in the bathroom. Noi then grabbed a key to her niece‘s room and entered to witness the shocking scene. Nattaphon was removing his clothes when she entered. He fled the room as soon as she caught him. The girl told Noi that her uncle abused her for nearly a year and threatened her to keep it a secret. Nattaphon had threatened to beat her up if she told her aunt. He had once attacked her, so she was afraid. Nattaphon admitted to assaulting the girl multiple times but claimed it was due to drunkenness. He also insisted that he had never forced her into sexual activity or threatened her as she mentioned. He apologised to his sister, the girl’s mother, but she would not forgive him. Police conducted a drug test on Nattaphon, which came back negative. Officers then charged him with sexually assaulting a minor under the age of 15. The penalty for this crime is imprisonment from five to 20 years and a fine from 100,000 to 400,000 baht. South Korean TikToker alleges sexual harassment by Phuket man - video Photo via Facebook/ เต่าดอยรันเนอร์ A South Korean TikToker is seeking justice, claiming that a Thai man sexually harassed her while she and her friend were working in Phuket. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1340446-south-korean-tiktoker-alleges-sexual-harassment-by-phuket-man-video/ -
A South Korean TikToker is seeking justice, claiming that a Thai man sexually harassed her while she and her friend were working in Phuket. The Phuket Times shared the story of the South Korean TikToker, known as DD, today, October 11. The page stated in the caption… “Another scandal! Foreign TikToker sexually harassed in Phuket.” In the comment section, the page included two videos of the victim. The first video showed two South Korean women arguing with a Thai man in a white shirt, who is believed to be the suspect. The second video showed DD trying to tell her story to her followers using a translation app on her mobile phone. As a result, the details remain unclear. According to reports from local news agencies in Phuket, DD travelled to Phuket for work. She said she was contacted by an agent who claimed he could find her a job in Thailand’s entertainment industry if she paid US$8,000, or about 270,000 baht. The agent introduced her to a man named Lek before she arrived in Phuket, and Lek took care of her and her friend while they were in the province. Lek took them on trips around Phuket, and the sexual harassment allegedly occurred during one of these trips. DD told her followers that she initially did not have any suspicions because Lek always told her that he loved her like his own daughter. However, Lek seemed to touch her too much, holding her waist and hands the entire time while they visited Nai Thon Beach. DD added that the man also touched her thighs while she sat next to him in the car. DD said she asked Lek to stop his behaviour but he continued. According to DD, Lek had been drinking alcohol and was drunk. At one point, he kissed her on the cheek, leaving saliva on her face. This left her shocked and frightened. Touchy feely DD decided to return to her accommodation but Lek followed her and her friend. He even touched her bottom while they were in the lift. He attempted to hug and kiss her multiple times, so DD and her friend asked him to leave them alone. DD stated that Lek became angry, which is seen in the argument captured in the video. He allegedly threatened to cancel all of DD’s work. DD and her friend decided to return to South Korea and demanded that Lek and the agency pay for their flights and refund the money she had paid for the job but she received nothing. Another local Facebook page, Taodoi Runner, shared a video of Lek defending himself today. In the video, Lek claimed that he was not involved with the agency or any business and denied sexually harassing DD, as she had claimed. Lek emphasised multiple times in the video that he saw DD as a daughter and did not want to speak publicly about the issue because he was concerned it might affect DD’s reputation. He stressed that he cared for her and had no ill intentions. Many netizens have urged news agencies to provide an interpreter so that both parties can clarify the matter publicly, and to proceed with legal action if Lek is found guilty. According to the Facebook page, DD and her friend are still in Thailand but would change to stay in Bangkok instead of Phuket for her safety. Smell of trouble: Bangkok busts 7 Vietnamese for selling cannabis Photo via Facebook/ สำนักงานคณะกรรมการป้องกันและปราบปรามยาเสพติด The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) arrested seven Vietnamese men at a house in Bangkok for illegally selling cannabis after residents complained about the unpleasant, intoxicating smell. The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) arrested seven Vietnamese men at a house in Bangkok for illegally selling cannabis after residents complained about the unpleasant, intoxicating smell. Locals in the Bueng Kum district of Bangkok filed a complaint with the ONCB, stating that a group of Vietnamese nationals had disturbed the peaceful community by using cannabis and releasing smoke outside their rented house. Acting on the complaint, ONCB officers raided the house on Wednesday, October 9. Upon arrival, officers found seven Vietnamese men living together in the house. They searched the property and discovered 128 kilogrammes of ground cannabis packed in 17 big plastic bags. The suspects admitted to using the ganja themselves and also selling it to people in Bangkok. For disturbing other residents, each Vietnamese national was fined 5,000 baht. They also face further punishment of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both, for selling cannabis without a licence, according to Section 46 of the Protection and Promotion of Traditional Thai Medicine Knowledge Act. In a related report, the British Ambassador to Thailand, Mark Gooding OBE, met with the ONCB to discuss the illegal smuggling of cannabis from Thailand into the UK. The outcome of the discussion was not disclosed in the report. Although marijuana was removed from Thailand’s Category 5 drugs list, it remains illegal in many other places, particularly neighbouring countries. This raised concerns over the trafficking of cannabis from Thailand to other countries. During the tenure of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, relevant departments considered reinstating cannabis as a controlled substance. However, the leader of the Bhumjaithai Party and current Deputy PM Anutin Charnvirakul, opposed this idea, as he was a key proponent of cannabis legalisation in Thailand. A group of ganja sellers and patients who use it for medicinal purposes also opposed the move. As of now, the issue has not been raised during the leadership of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Porked & busted: Thai woman nabbed for telling ‘pork’ pies 208 times Photo via Channel 8 In a sizzling tale of deceit, Bangkok police arrested a cheeky con artist for cooking up a scheme that left a local butcher over 1.6 million baht out of pocket. Wannipa, a 27 year old Thai woman, was collared by officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) after she used fake receipts to bag free pork not once, not twice, but a staggering 208 times! In a sizzling tale of deceit, Bangkok police arrested a cheeky con artist for cooking up a scheme that left a local butcher over 1.6 million baht out of pocket. Wannipa, a 27 year old Thai woman, was collared by officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) after she used fake receipts to bag free pork not once, not twice, but a staggering 208 times! The meaty scandal came to light on the CIB’s official Facebook page yesterday, sending shockwaves through the community. Wannipa’s arrest took place at a bustling shopping mall on Rama 9 Road, bringing an end to the high-stakes Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) she allegedly began back in April 2022. According to the police report, Wannipa initially bought pork online from a butcher in Bangkok and transferred the payment via a mobile banking application. The shop required her to send the transfer receipt to the store’s LINE account before delivering the pork, and she complied. Wannipa continued to buy pork from the shop numerous times and the butcher grew to trust her as a regular customer. However, the shop owner later became suspicious when Wannipa presented a transfer receipt but no money was deposited into the account. The butcher reviewed previous transactions and discovered that they had never received payment from Wannipa after her first purchase. Police reported that Wannipa used fake receipts to obtain pork 208 times, with the total value exceeding 1.6 million baht. The shop owner subsequently filed a complaint at Saimai Police Station. Wannipa was arrested and initially agreed to repay the butcher, leading to her release on bail. However, she failed to return the money and relocated in an attempt to evade arrest. The case was then transferred to CIB officers, resulting in her arrest yesterday. Wannipa admitted to her criminal actions, revealing that she used photo editing software to alter bank transfer receipts to obtain free products. She now faces two charges: Section 14(1) of the Computer Crime Act: Importing false or distorted information into a computer system, causing damage to others. This carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to 100,000 baht. Section 264 of the Criminal Code: Creating counterfeit documents, with a penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 60,000 baht, or both.
