House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said today (Monday) that his legal team will have to listen to the opinions of the House and Senate whips about whether the joint sitting of parliament, to select the prime minister, scheduled for this Thursday, will be postponed. The whips are scheduled to meet on Wednesday, he said, adding that he needs to hear the views of the eight coalition parties as well. All parties and the Senate have been thrown into disarray after the ombudsmen decided today to ask the Constitutional Court to consider a petition challenging parliament’s majority vote on July 19th to reject Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s renomination as a prime ministerial candidate. The ombudsman also asked the Charter Court to order parliament to suspend the prime ministerial selection process, until it rules on Pita’s renomination. A horrifying scene played out yesterday when a former Thai League football referee took a woman’s life in a brutal murder before succumbing to self-inflicted wounds in Pattaya. The gruesome murder incident transpired at a three-storey lodging establishment, featuring a café and shophouse, situated along the Jomtien Beach Road in the Banglamung district of Chon Buri. The heated event transpired yesterday, around 11.15am, according to Pol. Capt. Chonlawit Athiphansi. The assailant was recognised as Sunthorn Porjai, a 57 year old fitness trainer, known in his previous profession as a referee in the Thai League. Upon the police officer’s arrival, they found Sunthorn in a frenzied state, displaying a grievous slash on his neck and wielding a 40cm long knife, the blade epically stained with blood. He had somehow managed to secure the weapon to his wrist with a strap. As Sunthorn looked on the brink of losing consciousness due to his injuries, officers quickly disarmed him. He was rushed off to Pattaya Hospital, however, his wounds were so severe that he died. Officers at the scene discovered an additional horrific scene – a woman dead behind a counter, in a grim pool of blood. The deceased, 51 year old Saowajee Lekkhian, was the proprietor of the lodging venue. She suffered multiple stab wounds to her back, abdomen and throat, coupled with head injuries, signalling a horrifically violent encounter. Tragically, she was already dead when found at the scene, reported The Pattaya News. A motorbike taxi rider, who went by the name of Kob, said… “I heard a woman’s terrified screams.” By Top Caption: Picture courtesy of หนังสือพิมพ์รายวัน.สยามประชา Facebook Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/former-thai-league-referee-fatally-stabs-pattaya-woman-before-self-inflicted-wounds -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) today apologised for the cancellation of a pre-season friendly between Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The game was abandoned after a heavy downpour in the capital caused flooding in the stadium, leading to the unfortunate cancellation of the match. Originally slated to kick off at 5pm, the match was unable to follow its schedule due to the persistent downpour that had been ongoing since early yesterday afternoon. After a 45-minute wait, Tottenham officially announced the cancellation with a statement that read… “Today’s friendly against Leicester City has been cancelled due to the waterlogged course and unfavourable weather conditions. The competition organisers followed the advice of relevant departments that the Rajamangala Stadium is not safe to play due to heavy rain in Bangkok.” Many Thai fans flooded the comments section with their expressions of disappointment, and some even placed blame on the match organisers for the cancellation. Others were hot with shame and offered apologies to both teams for the inconvenience. Some argued that the rain wasn’t as heavy as perceived, but rather, the stadium’s inability to drain the water effectively led to the unplayable conditions. They urged the organizers to consider alternative venues such as Thunder Dome Stadium or BG Stadium, which they believed would have coped better with the weather. The official Facebook page of Leicester City also announced the issue of the unplayable condition and the cancellation to its fans, and the comment session was also full of complaints against the organiser. In a tragic incident, a Year 8 student fatally assaulted his Year 10 schoolmate, reportedly due to jealousy, at a prominent school in Pimai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand. The assailant, who did not flee the scene, surrendered to police following the unfortunate event. The incident unfolded as A, a 14 year old student, stabbed 15 year old B with a knife, according to a video clip captured by another student. Both were students of the same school and their confrontation, fuelled by jealousy, transpired outside of the music practice room. The assailant was reportedly discontented that his ex-girlfriend was growing closer to the deceased, which led to arguments. The situation escalated when the assailant brought a knife and stabbed the older boy, causing the weapon to get lodged in his abdomen and eventually leading to his demise, reported KhaoSod. News reporters later visited the funeral of the deceased. Reporters spoke with the 35 year old mother of the deceased, Rattanaporn, and his 65 year old grandmother, Lamul, who had recently returned from the school where the incident happened. Lamul expressed her anguish. “We have to ask his soul to come home and stay with the family. He was still so young and not a bad kid.” By Nattapong Westwood Caption: Picture courtesy of KhaoSod Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/nakhon-ratchasima-schoolboy-fatally-stabs-peer-in-jealousy-fueled-dispute -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-24 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. A luxury hotel nestled within the picturesque landscapes of Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, became the unsuspecting target of a cunning hotel scam that left more than 40 victims in its wake. Fraudsters hatched a plan by creating a fake social media account for the esteemed MYS Khao Yai Hotel, deceiving unsuspecting guests and luring them into booking with the imposter instead of the genuine hotel. One such victim, Chantana Mander, shared her harrowing experience with Channel 3, recounting how she had made a reservation for the MYS Khao Yai Hotel through Facebook. Trusting the fake page, she proceeded to transfer 14,100 baht as payment to an individual named Baiela. However, upon her arrival at the hotel, her name was nowhere to be found on the booking list, leaving her feeling frustrated and bewildered. In an attempt to prove her payment, Chantana displayed her money transfer receipt to the hotel staff, only to discover that the bank account in question had no association with the hotel. Realizing the deception, the hotel staff accompanied her to the Moo Sri Police Station to file a complaint. To her dismay, another couple, also duped by the same hotel scam, arrived at the police station to do the same. The unfortunate couple, hailing from Nakhon Sawan province in northern Thailand, had journeyed to Nakhon Ratchasima for a relaxing vacation. Deciding to extend their stay, they searched for accommodation online and unwittingly stumbled upon the fake Facebook page of MYS Khao Yai. What made matters worse was that the counterfeit page managed to appear at the top of search results, outshining the authentic one. The fraudsters had invested in Facebook advertisements and post boosts, garnering numerous followers and reactions to create a façade of credibility. The couple, like Chantana, transferred their payment, but this time to a different individual named Anake.
