You are either deliberately missing the point for the purpose of trolling, or you seriously lack reading comprehension. If it is the former, my policy is to avoid engagement. If it is the latter, my advice is for you take a remedial reading course.

Easy to read and understand your personal attack. Hope you enjoy your evening. Take care.

It is ok if you dont understand a post, but attacking it even though you don't understand it is not wise.

There was no defense of Sharia law in the post, or in this whole  thread as a matter of fact.

The attack was on the protesters which appeared to be a defense of Sharia law. Sorry if I misread your words. But it is a little difficult to argue they should protest the death penalty and rape if they cared about death and woman in light of sharia law being a central part of the conversation. Don't mean to personally attack you but to attack your argument tactics and subject matter that you targeted and your examples  of the "insincere" protestors thought process. Peace

Where exactly in America is this Sharia law the protesters are protesting about? If they cared about executions, there are states with actual death penalty laws they should be protesting against.

If these protesters truly cared about women's rights as they claim, then instead of protesting against non existent Sharia law, they ought to be protesting these actual atrocities against American women:

In 7 US states, rape victims can be legally forced to share custody of their children with their rapist fathers

This is a Right Wing politically correct flavor of anti-Muslim rally, plain and simple. The same people to claim to admire "saying it like it is" don't have the guts to admit their bigotry. On a visceral level, they know they are wrong, hence the need for cover, weak as it is.

I lived in a state where the death penalty exists and it takes 25 years of legal arguing to carry through the death penalty. And woman that are raped can seek civil damages and criminal penalties against the rapist. To attempt to equate American law with Shira law and criticise the protesters is beyond crazy.  If you want to defend shira law then defend it but to attack American law in your attempt to defend shira law and label the protesters as uncaring about women or death is weak at best and evil at worst.

Sharia law states that Muslims must live by the law of the land. I am not Muslim or Christian - I am an atheist and therefore am not sticking up for my personal religion.

    See http://www.daruliftaa.com/node/5852

There is no contradiction between the law of the USA and Sharia so long as the laws of the USA do not force a Muslim person to sin eg. eat pork or not go to prayer.

Before posters prattle on about Sharia being "antiquated, barbaric and abominable" they should inform themselves of the facts.

SHARIA REQUIRES MUSLIMS TO LIVE BY THE LAW OF THE USA. and any other country in which they reside .

I do not know if you are correct or not so I am not arguing with you about the accuracy of your knowledge of Sharia law. I don't know.

But it appears to me that the sharia law advocates in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan are not following the local countries  laws and there are many more horrid examples of Sharia law enforcement. So I have doubts that many sharia law advocates would follow the laws of the USA or any other country that has the rule of law. Peace ?

The only person who can decide if someone is sentenced to death is the presiding judge in a trial. The other 'Thai authorities' have no jurisdiction in the matter. The only assurance that the Thai government can make is that he will be given a fair trial and not subjected to  inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment. They have done it in the past with the Brit 'pibull' Thai boxer who stabbed and killed a former US marine in Phuket a few years ago. Some deal was obviously made, but only the trial judge can decide if the death penalty is handed down.

Sorry but do not believe so.  The prosecutor brings the charges against the defendant and the judge and jury are limited to the charges brought against the defendant. Prosecutors and governments can make written agreements with foreign courts and countries to not seek the death penalty.  It is the government/prosecutors right to pursue or waive charges for the death penalty.

  6. First time I went to issan with a woman she took me to the market and I spent 2000 baht including 580 baht for case of Leo beer.  fish pork chicken vegetables fruit. I was a little shocked and ticked off that I was paying the entire tab. Then we went back to her home and the women cooked for 3 hours and 50 ish people ate and drank all night. They supplied the white alcohol not me. Ended up being a great night and some people were joyous and thanked me and some were a little jealous and some were not fans of farangs but fans of free food and Leo. But for 2000 baht I have to say it was a great evening for me and I learned a little bit about issan society and myself. I went back to see them again for dinner and the mom insisted that they kill 3 chickens and I not buy meat for the second dinner. Beer I bought because I wanted it. Those three chickens were worth a lot to them so that is one reason I hate to hear Thai bashing. There are some really good people in Issan and of course the others. Don't want to diminish the tradegy of those men that lost their life savings to issan woman( as I saw many new village homes both occupied by married people and unoccupied by any farang)but issan has many nice locals mixed in with the others just like the expats I know in BKK.

  7. I stayed in hotels and never had durian. Then moved here and a Thai lady gave me a bite. Now I think it tastes great and smells great. Would have told you the opposite response before I tried it. Maybe because it tastes so good my mind tricks my nose but love it.

  8. History teaches us lessons if we will listen and learn. The Protestants and Catholics killed each other and others in the name of God. Now the Shiite and Sunni kill each other and Islam  terroists blow themselves up killing  innocent people thinking God will be proud of them and reward them. Other countries (my own USA and their Allies) declare war on others ( Iraq) and shout God be with us.

King Constantine became Catholic and tried to eliminate the Greek Roman Gods. Catholics in South America destroyed the previous temples and religions of Peru and on and on.

I am not agnostic like the Chinese communist as I believe in people's right to a spiritual life. But when will we all learn the lessons of the past that anytime governments or churches or others  preach hate and violence, then they are not believers in a spiritual God but simply using God as an excuse for their own power, glory, or insanity.

    Peace ?

I am not a fanatical Christian but I find your comments disturbing. Suicide or Euthanasia or whatever you want to call it is a cowards way out. If you have no family or responsibility then OK. But if you are leaving behind wives, children and other family then you are a coward. I also believe euthanasia should be illegal as life is precious as is the life of your family. By doing this you are destroying their lives too... As for jumping from a high building. Wouldn't it be easier and less gruesome to take an overdose of something...A cowards way out...

I once believed as you did that people should tough it up for others and themselves. But then I saw my grandmother live in constant head pain for three years in a bed crying. The strongest drugs gave little to no relief. Pain so bad you want to die to get relief. I never want another person to have to endure that type of pain for so long.

That pain exists and I hope you never experience it. If you did you would understand that euthanasia is compassion not cowardly act. There comes a time when we all should be able to decide to live in pain or end our pain and life peacefully.

And you have evidence of this mass incest in Thailand, or it just pleases you to spout rubbish!

People use to wrongly say the same incest comments about the people of Arkansas and Tennessee in the USA.

What I have learned  is that a large majority of daily contributors to TV simply love to espout hate and bigotry to make themselves feel superior. No use in communicating with these TV posters as they need this daily "how ---great,smart,correct,moral,just,perfect, lived in Thailand longer than you expert, I am" and their only way of showing others their uniqueness  and speciality is to disparage Thai people and Thailand. Yet these same people continue to live here or move away and cannot leave TV and their daily commentary behind. Peace ?

Fresh off the boat?  Or you don't speak fluent Thai yet?

No I speak Thai semi fluently and only been here permanently for a little over a year but been coming here for 10 years regularly.  Met some great Thai people and met some others ----same with expats. But question still goes unanswered why would anyone not in prison choose to live and breath in a country that they feel the locals despise them?  No matter where you live people will like you, dislike you, or not care. People will use you and people will help you. But to state that the majority of Thai people despise expats is way out of bounds.  If that ever becomes true then time to move away quickly and quietly. Cheers ?

When are you going back, out of Thailand?

Visiting Europe now and heading back to BKK tomorrow and looking forward to it.  Don't know what day I leave BKK to never return but if the day comes that I feel despised by the locals or think the country is not enjoyable then I will head for Swampy with my two suitcases and never return. Good and bad people in BKK and Issan and anywhere you go. No man or woman is perfect and I fail regularly to be the best person I can be, but keep trying to enjoy life with others.  I believe Thailand has a lot to offer expats and I am thankful for the yearly extension of stay.

    Retirement extension fee...  1900 THB

    Compulsory insurance...   36,000 THB

Getting to stay in a country where you are despised...  Priceless...

Who in their right mind would ever live or visit a place where they feel they are despised by the locals???

Hard to grasp some of the odd humor bitter posts on TV. Do more of what makes you happy and do it in a place you enjoy ----any place that you enjoy --but don't waste precious time in a place you despise or feel despised. Peace ?

The IDP helps as it is only a translation of your home country DL.
If you try to obtain a Thai Dl with a home country DL not in English then you will have to do the driving test if you don't have a IDP.

Thank you for explaining this to me. I had a USA drivers license and had no problem but I now understand the IDP issue.

Why would anyone from America or Europe travel thousands of miles to Bangkok to end up in a Western Pub that is overpriced ad overrated  when there are literally thousands of Thai bars/Pubs with prettier ladies and cheaper beer.

    Hooters?-   Forget about it!!!

    Exactly 100 percent correct.

    Buying a car:

    1) Deposit

    2) Delivery payment  (or Cashiers cheque) - you pick the car up at the dealership.

    3) You will need a Copy of your Passport.

    4) You will need Affirmation of residence*

*Proof of residence can be obtained form your consulate (or immigration if you have done a 90day report)

    5) Your new car will have red dealer plates - you will need to choose a 'white' place within 1 month (this law is hardly enforced). The dealers say they will do this, but quicker to just do this yourself at the DLT.

    Driving here:

    1) Home license with accompanying IDP (Dates cover 12 months: You can drive 90 days)

    2) Its best to obtain a Thai License. Use your Home license + IDP. You will need Affirmation of Residence, and a medical checkup certification.

I am not an expert but wondering why get IDP?   I got a Thai drivers license in BKk staying in a hotel my first  first two weeks with just my USA license copies, residence embassy form, copy of passport and fee. Information lady spoke English and was helpful at the information desk at the drivers license office.

Took a 15 minute test with a group of people that covered three simply reaction areas. Saw the test in English in the lobby while waiting for my group to take our test. May have also taken an eye test.

Getting the Thai DL was simple and if you forget to copy correct documents they had a copier for 1 baht a page. So I had no IDP and was never asked for one by anybody.

  17. I have not been to either but I have an American friend married to Thai lady that lives in Kalasin. He comes to Bangkok and his main complaint is lack of expats to hang out with in Kalasin. He speaks fluent Thai but gets tired of only being around Thai people. This is third hand not verified but I believe my friend is lonely for Expat friends in Kalasin.
