  1. reality check is needed here ~ people defend their position because loss of face is something farangs suffer from as well as thais because admitting they have made a mistake is very painful emotionally either picking the wrong woman or whatever.  Thailand is a place that can can drive a normal man to the point of total distraction where logical awareness disappears and thru stress other problems appear. Thailand can be magic or hell but it is certaintly not heaven.

  2. one of the best/true/accurate posts I've ever read on TV is post # 166 by bwpage3 also post #141 by Gudge is 100% accurate according to my Canadian friends who want to stay the hell away from their birth place.

They are saddened by what has happened to their country ( but they don't miss the horrible weather.)

  3. Back in late 2014 a $30 million development at Layan Beach named "Chom Tawan" involving 40 plus property buyers had big problems ~ buyers could not secure ownership of properties already paid for.  A Chinese bank and an English guy were involved.  I would like to know the outcome of this situation as I have heard nothing further and a post today on TV reminded me of this.  I guess many TV members more learned than I would have tracked this case doggedly to it's finality.

  4. You can't have been here very long if you haven't seen who does the work here.  It's the WOMEN. The guys sleep in the taxi or lay on the motorbike or pick their faces in the rear view mirror at the traffic lights. Without the women this place is finito. Roll on ASEAN. Penalties are coming. So many downright lazy men here. Think they are entitled to just watch boring soccer ( they are mesmerized by it ) all the time while she does 99%.. Wouldn't get away with that crap in the west. BTW how the hell THB is still strong ! against Real $$$.. cooking the books like Greece did  ?   Things are coming down the pike for Thailand.

  5. It appears as though I'm not the only person not investing in Thailand.

Investment by foreign companies in Thailand in 2015 dropped by a massive 78% compared to 2014 in figures released by the Thai Board of Investment.

Japanese investment went off the cliff falling 81% while EU investment almost evaporated falling from 87 billion baht down to 2 billion baht.....!!

Now I wonder how those posters ( we all know who they are ) who on this thread & the " Phuket property glut " thread keep telling us how great things are here

economically.....blah blah.....they can't see all the unoccupied "ghost" buildings all over the place.

Having put their money on the line here they must be getting "night sweats" now.

It will be a monumental task for them to put a positive spin on these diabolical numbers.

  6. I won't be investing in the Thai stock market in spite of what some say here !!

Many years ago I considered it and paid an astute analyst to examine the market here............... he had no financial gain to answer either yes or no.

His report was that activities were not "transparent" & that many company officer's future profit projections were often seen through "rose colored glasses" ....it was and still is too great a

risk for me with returns not commensurate with such a big risk.

I have continued to invest across the globe but predominately in the US & have made good money even with all the bumps in the road including the GFC. If your stock selection is wise

then problems are minimized & profits maximized. Warren B is still doing well & I've yet to hear him even mention the word Thailand ~ where the SET is down about 14% in 2015, rice

production for next year is expected to fall to 25 million tonnes from 32 million tonnes & tourism will continue to hurt badly.

My investing strategy has proved successful. Thailand ?...include me out.

  7. Yes..... phuketandsee & LivinginKata-----this is something we shouldn't ignore

anything is possible in this crazy world

should something like this ever happen undoubtedly the "Phuket property spruikers" who keep surfacing here will tell us all........it's a great BUYING opportunity

  8. there is no doubt there is a property glut in Phuket in spite of what some posters here say as they obviously have a vested interest in saying so

they like to talk things up ( probably in the hope of getting a naive newcomer to sign a buying contract )

too much overbuilding , poor infrastructure , no rule of law , daily hazards unknown in the west , many many more - but we who live here know the truth

my neighbors have several nice beach side properties to rent ...1 bedroom unoccupied 8 months...2 bedroom unoccupied 7 months...3 bedroom unoccupied 13 months - another neighbor let her 3 bedroom to a teacher family with a 20% rent discount & 15% discount on water, electric & internet...but some here persist in continually talking up the market here.. they have their reasons but there is such a thing as " look out of the window " economics ,,,so look out the window & see reality

i just came back from a swim at the beach ~ it's only a 5-6 minute walk away, plus I also have a nice swimming pool here & a roomy place ~ all for a very reasonable rent....so why buy !

the $$$ I don't spend on property ownership here is far better employed making real money protected by rule of law in a jurisdiction where justice prevails so like NKMan I prefer to sleep peacefully at night knowing I've invested smartly

but if you want to gamble it's your choice

  9. exactly NKMan----without enforced rule of law you as an investor have absolutely zero

the ones urging here must be trying to convince themselves because they will never convince me or other prudent investors

  10. I too am fully invested both in property & stocks & i don't have a $ invested in Thailand although I live here as is my choice because ~ i like it.......as soon as I don't like it anymore I'm on the next plane out still with all my loot............unlike the ones here who are locked in & are trying to convince everyone they have made a smart investing decision......it's borderline hilarious
