  1. Having spent my working life in the concrete business, I can only say, concrete formwork is not for the do-it-yourselfer. Ive seen too many horror stories. Wet concrete has tremendous pressure and working with concrete in hot weather can be a real chalenge. Be shure you know what your getting into and good luck.

  2. I dont understand why one must have a certificate of residency to get a yellow book. To get the certificate, you must provide the same information they ask for to get the yellow book, except the witnesses. So, you are really going through the process twice.

  3. Thanks, Ill have it checked. Last time I used the truck, I noticed no water dripping where it usually does when I park it.

And yes, I have it serviced every 5000 km. which is about once a year. I dont drive much and really dont notice what they do at each servicing. I go to the Issuzu dealership and trust they do whatever has to be done.

  4. Here in Issan, farmers are buying truckloads of "key oiy" (sugarcane sh*t), to spread on thier fields. Usually on fields of grass.

Im assuming its a byproduct of the sugar manufacturing process. Does anyone know what it is and what nutrients it might contain?

It sells for 1500 B per 10 wheeler load.

  5. I come from a cold climate and have never had a car with air con before. Now I have an Issuzu pick up I bought new 9 years ago. The air con works fine, but my wife says the air smells stale.

Is there any maintainance that should be done periodically, or do you just wait till it stops working?

  6. Thanks very much. Guess Ill have a visit to the doctor. Im familiar with prostate cancer as all the men in my family have died from it. The positive thing is, that my father was the youngest and he was 85.

Ive deceided that if I get cancer I wont treat it. I understand that often, the cancer stays confined to the prostate.

I find it strange that, during the day, the only symptom I have is frequent urination. Its at night that I have all the problems.

  7. Ive had an enlarged prostate for many years. I dont like cemicals, so I went with saw palmetto. It worked wonders. Took 3 months to notice results. I used to travel to the states occasionaly, and would stock up. Now, I am here permanantly and ran out of saw palmetto 2 years ago. I was fine for about a year, then the symptoms came back.

Im considering going to the doctor to get a prescription (cardura, or whatever he suggests), and am wondering what others who have taken these drugs think. Do they work well? Any side effects?

I would like more saw palmetto, but the initial costs, plus shipping would be a bit too much for me.

  8. My house is 12 years old and the paint on the outside concrete walls has held up very well. Only thing is, it has become dull, so I would like to repaint. I have read all the threads about painting new surfaces but have not seen anything about if primer is nessesary when repainting.

The surface is very sound, and of course I would like to simply apply paint only, but if I need to, I would rather do it right and prime also. Can someone please advise me?

  9. Actually, its very common to get rain this time of year. Its called "mango showers", because the mango trees are in bloom.

During the dry season we usually get a good soaking rain every 2 or 3 months. It cleans the dust off everything and the landscape goes from brown to green. Its really refreshing!

  10. A friend showed me a CAT phone card and the booklet that came with it. He could call Germany for 2 baht a min., and the booklet said the rate to the US was 90 satang per min..

He has a land line phone, but there are no phonelines where I live and I only have a mobile phone. The question I have is, can I use that card with a mobile without being charged 5 baht per min. by 1-2-call?

  11. I live in Khon Kaen Province and there is something in the well water. Others have told me they have it, but my in-laws who live in town Khon Kaen dont.

Its some kind of mineral I quess. It cant be seen looking at the water, but it builds up on tile and plastic. Its white and becomes brittle. My guess is its limestone or something like that. I have to clean it from the shower head every couple months or it becomes completly blocked. Our toilet wasnt flushing solids, so I removed it, broke it apart and this stuff had reduced the outlet hole about 50%!

Any ideas how to deal with it?

  12. I started getting charged 1% "foreign transaction fee" in Sept 06. I emailed my banker 3 times asking whats up but never got a reply.

Now, I read about this lawsuit but am confused. Why was this lawsuit filed? I am assuming the fee is somehow illegal but I am still being charged a foreign transaction fee on withdrawals from my US bank when I use my Mastercard.

  13. I read that many of us are concerned anout the danger of the older electric systems here. I also have an older ungrounded system.

When living in the US, I was zapped several times, 110v, 220v, and I was even struck by lightning twice, the last time I was outside standing in a puddle of water. The only damage was a headache.

Touching a live, grounded wire, has only resulted in a good jolt. If one was to touch a live ungrounded wire here, would it be worse, even cause death?

Also, if one were to get electrocuted, what would be the likely cause? Normally, we dont have any direct contact with electricity. We turn on the light switch and appliances and thats about it.

  14. I enjoy putting them in, I dont think I would have much fun taking them out.

And zorro, Id be glad to work for you. At the pace I work, the price would be around20,000 baht per sq. meter. When can I start?

  15. I come from a cold climate where tiles are rarely used, so I know little about them.

Our kitchen had a very rough and uneven concrete floor, so I tiled it. Did it myself, took 10 times longer than a professioal, but I enjoyed it and it came out very nice. The problem is, that I used a tile that was very porous and not too smooth, figuring it would not be slippery if it got wet. (turnes out it never gets wet!) Well, it has stained terribly. I cleaned it best I could and put 3 coats of sealer on, but the sealer soaked right into it and it still stains. We keep it clean but it just looks bad.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions how to make it look better?

  16. Im not sure how to go about it, as Im not very computer literate, but I would like to see section here about construction and home improvement.

I think alot of guys would benifit from something like that. I spent my working life in construction and do all the work myself at my place. Construction and materials are not the same here as where I come from, so often I have to improvise and figure things out for myself.

Im sure I could be of help to others and I certaintly could use help from time to time.

    Sound like a good idea?
