  1. I found that the JW Marriott in BKK tends to have the best burger - its not cheap somewhere around 400 baht including fries in the cafe/restaurant but the quality of the meat is superb - just the right amount of seasoning and fat content. Day to day, I find Burger King in BKK good but pricey compared to McDonalds - never have understood why that it is.

Maybe because it's much, much better-tasting and uses a regular flame grill instead of an electric one and a higher-quality bun??

  2. Actually, trains to Chiang Mai pass thru the Don Muang airport railway station across the road...I'm not 100% sure if they actually stop there or not (I seem to remember that they do, but maybe someone more knowledgeable can provide that info), but you would be able to buy a ticket at the station and the timing is pretty good, I reckon it would be passing by the airport at 10:20-10:30...

What you could do is just cross the road and check out the station - if you can get on all is well, if not, just book yourself into the Amari Airport for the night.

  3. Because it's very hard to think of any good reason to learn it? smile.gif

    Are you serious?

I guess you can't read the newspapers or watch tv. Maybe you always have a translator with you.

Learning Thai has many many advantages when living in Thailand - very strange to say there are no reasons. :o

I can't read the Thai newspapers but the BKK Post is fine enough, don't watch TV and live/study/work in a very international environment, so at least in my case there is no need to learn it...I of course know basic Thai expressions which I need to get around, but in several years here I've never had a proper conversation in Thai.

  4. Did that with the Metropole Hotel...central location, decent room, lousy breakfast if you're not into Chinese food...2000B per night, paid in cash at the hotel after booking online. I also stayed at the Holiday Inn there before, really nice but costs about 1000B extra.

  5. Got here through diplomatic channels (my dad was the Romanian ambassador here), after many holidays here, when I finished high school I decided I wanted a less irritating university than Engineering back home, so I went for a Telecom. Science degree here at ABAC...got a year or so until I'm done, remains to be seen what will happen afterwards. Between that and teaching in a relaxed, but professional environment, I've been quite comfortable indeed :o
