Rc2702.
When common sense applies and a solution is arrived to the satisfaction of all concerned, yes it is one of those ''Great agency stories.
A mutually agreed amicable solution was reached. Once the agency knew the full facts they acted and advised me in how to deal with the situation.
Perhaps yes a little touch of temper on the part of someone who was working under pressure is and can be expected.
However they then listened, advised and acted in their and my interests to solve the problem, to me that is the mark of an honourable business practice.
Not all agencies are the devil in disguise nor are all teachers the paragons of virtue either.
As said, Alls well that ends well.
Just a little heads up when you,ve been here as long as I have working in education then retire but get very easily bored the work ethic is a saving grace..
I , we are financially sound but unlike my home country there are few if any avenues to stimulate one mentally in retirement.
Bar stool life is not my idea of fun, working to hopefully at least motivate only one child is preferable to mental stagnation and cirrhosis of the liver.

Firstly the distance involved is, was not a problem with self drive.
Now the icing on the cake. I have just received a Line message offering me a position that is very near to home hence even having to use public transport for a while is no problem.
Good relationships between myself and the agency concerned have been restored, as I have already said they are decent to work with.
Common sense and some give and take on both sides solved the problem , proves that there are some decent agencies out there.
Many thanks to all of you for your sage advice and help though

Actually we own the house we live in and I have a family and I Iike to be with them on a daily basis in the evenings. The idea of the routine of commuting in on a Monday and back on a Friday is not really practical much like running two homes. The transport problem rests with the insurance company not me.
But thanks for the advice Rc2702, if I was young and single it would be the ideal solution

Nothing about penalty and also no copy of contract handed on or transmitted by email. Line etc.
I understand their problems but my problem is a darn sight more of an issue that theirs.I note that they were /are still advertising posts for the school I was to be employed at.
Reckon they are having problems in getting teachers hence my situation hasn't improved matters. All left to the last moment as usual by school and agency. (Contract was signed on Wednesday May 9th 2018)

O K folks.
Whats the situation? Having signed a contract last week and then a subsequent issue changed my situation dramatically.
I E our car was badly damaged in an accident Sunday evening whilst being driven by a relative.
Now the issue of getting to work via public transport time and cost wise will become a big problem, cost around 500/600 baht a day, journey times in and outbound around 3 +hours each way as opposed to self drive around 3 hours in total both in and outbound. It seems as if the insurance will let me claim 1,000 baht a day travel, however being Tailand I am not too sure as to the fact such costs will or may be paid
Told the agency, sorry no I cannot take up the contract then they tell me a 45,000 baht release / fine has to be paid. Now what legal right do they have?
I had worked for the previous year for this agency and to be honest they were good as it seems their reputation was/is.
They were less than honest about informing the school as to my age, perhaps a note to the school if things become heated might well prove effective.

I agree with this.
There are so many times that I have bought powdered ingredients (bread mixes, cake mixes, poultry stuffing, etc.) only to find out that there is a Thai sticker stuck directly on top of the cooking instructions.
If you try to remove it the instructions under the sticker will come away as well.
I have no plans to join the 'Pattaya balcony jumping display team' because I know that my demise will be through starvation from not being able to cook my scoff.

If it wasn't for irresponsible animal 'lovers' turning their pets out into the street or the pesky idiots who feed them then we would not have to find a solution.
I choose not to own a dog, so I don't see why I have to put up with someone else's cast off.

What the hell are you talking about??
The Phuket Soi Dog programme of neuter/vaccinate/release has been proven to work. Phuket has far fewer soi dogs, and is rabies-free.
If Phuket still has wild dogs roaming the sois then your dog progamme is not working.
There are still unwanted, flea ridden, suffering dogs in the streets.
When will the do gooders realise that they are the ones that created the problem in the first place?
When will these dog foundations realise that a 100% cull is the only answer.

How often have I said this?
Spay, vaccinate and release.
It's worked brilliantly on Phuket, which is a rabies free area.
Alternatively, round them up, double tap, burn.
Also creates a rabies free area.

What was the poison that they were using and where would one buy it from?
Does it come ready mixed or do you have to mix it yourself?
If self mix, is there a decent Youtube video showing the procedure?
All in the interests of scientific research of course.

Same thing airlines do except on the rare occasion we have dual bookings we have other guesthouses we work with on relocations. In all due respect we maintain an 8.6 rating and you obviously are clueless to the realities of this type business. Airbnb clients are far more reliable and pay ahead of time. Booking.com clients are mostly low-ball travelers that create the most havoc, don't return confirmations, etc.
Any other hotel will tell you the same. We actually have few we have to relocate because we cancel their reservation after the third contact attempt. We average 90% + occupancy and we never get ThaiVisa guests, rooms are too expensive.
What a terrible and underhanded way to run a business.
Sad that you have to use your customers just to get your pockets full.

So you actively condone shooting cats with BB guns do you ?
Sick
I feel that I have done myself an injustice here, so I would like to explain that the reason for condoning the shooting of stray vermin with BB guns is because real guns are not available for Westerners.
As to your other question about my health, I do have a touch of the flu coming on but I'm not too sick at the moment, thank you for asking.

Obviously, if you don't pay in advance for your room, you can just hope without expecting anything.
So let's punish those who have every intention of occupying the room that they have booked and received a confirmation for, what a crappy attitude that is.
Any hotel/guesthouse that deliberately overbooks with the knowledge that they may turn away real guests deserves to fail.

A lot of Scandinavians rent condos on the sea front here through booking and booking do nothing about customer complaints, the reception staff in the condo get the grief and it's not their job to sort out problems with rooms rented through booking.
What have Scandinavians or your 'failure rate' (or indeed your post) got to do with the immoral and dishonest practice of over booking vacancies with scant regard for the innocent customer who turns up without a bed to sleep in?

Easy answer to the dog problem is to bring in mandatory microchips for dogs.
If a dog is running loose on the street and is not micro-chipped, then it is a stray and can be taken away and humanely put down.
If a dog is running loose on the street and is micro-chipped, then the owner could be fined.
As for cats, is this not the reason why we have BB guns?

Guests that stay weeks at a time are much less work 95% of the time. This guy was a pain in the ass because you never want to refund money nor get a 1.0 review. Much prefer AIRBNB, they collect deposits, pay timely and provide reviews of guests from hosts that have served them previously. If somebody shows their ass they most likely do it all the time. The fact the O.P. even posted this tale shows signs he's not worth putting up with, buy a tent buddy!
Your wife deliberately overbooks the vacancies at her guesthouse and then turns away people who have pre-booked their reservations.
This means that someone turns up with their luggage and they are told that despite booking through the correct channels they are out on the street.
What a pleasant way to run a business while simultaneously messing up someone's holiday.
Care to share the name of your wife's guesthouse so that other members of Thai Visa will know where not to book in future.

Advise to all Thai women, don't ever go to work in whatever capacity in any of the arab or even islamic countries, you are viewed upon as infidel filth.
Your reply makes no sense, I was not talking about the races of those involved, I was simply asking if it would have been ok if the roles were reversed.
What if the woman had said the wrong thing that the man attacked her, would the woman then get the blame (equality for all?)?
Why is it ok for a woman to attack a man but when the man reacts he is wrong?

It's an era when women cry for equality. Only logical they don't get any perks but get clocked right back. Be careful what you wish for.
This is the problem with the bra burning crowd.
We want equality to have it but we want more rights than men.

Not in the least but if you attack someone you have to accept that they are not just going to stand there and take it.

What difference does it make what he said, she decided to act with violence.
If the Thai woman had said the wrong thing then would it be ok for the man to attack her first?

Agency threat 45.k fine

Comments from some are certainly typical of the superior teacher passing through type immigrants here.
Thai practice is wrong. Arrogant foreign teachers right.
My age is of no concern as a WP has always been granted for the last 27 years that I have lived and worked here. Even now no problems met, no questions asked .Good clean record
So that argument is not valid. The error it seems was a genuine mistake which I interpreted the wrong way when told, the age issue of 72 made no difference to the position being given to me. The problem was a RTA and crossed lines of communication
So when you have all finished your careers here and elsewhere in Intl schools and retire on a decent pension as well as other income, you'll find time hangs heavily hence the work ethic.I am not motivated by money.
Pitiful little people full of self righteous pomposity and self importance making comments about an issue they have no comprehension of.
