Hows that stock market crash going?

Some people are looking for some big time turbulence, at a minimum, if the war heats up and oil prices spike higher.  We could see a closure of the Straits of Hormuz. What would that do to the price of oil?  $200 a barrel?

Depending on which stocks a person owns, many have already seen a downturn.

WHAT?   OF COURSE they can.  do it all the time, just won't be posting on your Facebook page about it.  come on, don't be so naive.

Black sites are clandestine detention centers operated by a state where prisoners who have not been charged with a crime are incarcerated without due process or court order, are often mistreated and murdered, and have no recourse to bail.

Other than Guantanamo Bay, an area under US control, I can't see this happening on a wide scale in the USA. Maybe it has happened. Maybe it still does. You can bet, though, any public announcement by Trump wouldn't fly in the courts.  Even under martial law, I'm pretty sure Trump couldn't get away with it.

Just declare Antifa a Domestic Terrorist group, then let the FBI round them all up, then throw them in a Federal Prison for life.

They can't simply be thrown in prison without a trial.  How do you prove who is a member? They spread a lot of nonsense, to be sure, and some gullible people likely believe it and act accordingly.  In other words, it would be a circus.

The best way I've found is to spray them with an abundant amount of insect spray, as it acts as a tranquilizer and more or less paralyzes them, which gives you the ability to snag them and eliminate them. It even works on huge ml lizards, most animals have a tremendous aversion to insect spray, it's really quite a miraculous tool. I've used it to get rid of stray cats that were hanging out at the house making a lot of noise, and they never came back.

I've seen Gecko spray in the stores. Tops Daily. I've only seen one in my condo in three years, so I never much thought about it.

More clear evidence that Democrat supporters are violent and driven by rhetoric spewed out by Dem politicians, and that Trump is right - the National Guard needs to take over and shut down the riots - violently if needed. This could be the moment when USA changes for the good and there is a nationwide clampdown to stops riots and insurrections pretending to be protests. It appears that a Democrat politician was killed by a Democrat supporter because (probably) she voted with the Republicans to remove healthcare for illegal immigrants. Hopefully all the Dems politicians screaming for their supporters to resist and fight are charged with insurrection - like they did to the protestors who stupidly walked into the Capitol and were outside protesting peacefully. This could be it - the game is over - time to take out those that play the race card and agitator role to stir up violence, all to protect illegals who vote for them. If they dont do it now - when will they do it.

It's no big secret what ANTIFA is all about. They'd like nothing better than to start a civil war in the USA. And that's exactly what could happen in Trump "takes over" and shuts down the riots.

I'm not saying that couldn't happen. Just pointing out the problem.

Next news item will be about the very same idiot DEAD on the roads of Pattaya trying to get the "perfect shot" for his Tik Tok account.

If you've never seen a crazy tourist on a rented motorbike acting like an idiot and then crashing spectacularly, it's probably just a matter of time. And if they only hurt themselves in the process, then so what?  But unfortunately, that's usually not the case. They run over a pedestrian, or they run into a car in an intersection, of some combination of the two. I've seen at least two such happenings.

I only thought of the VPN thing while I was typing the question.  It seems stupid, but maybe that's the problem.  It can't be rocket science.  People order from Lazada every day.

Usually, the pit stop was in Taipei.

The very first time I went to Thailand from LAX back in 2000 was on a 747, and the plane had a pitstop in Osaka, Japan. We were told just to leave all our stuff on the plane. While we got out and walked around a bit, they cleaned the aircraft and refueled.  An hour later, maybe less, we were back on the plane and headed for Bangkok. Back then the destination was the old Bangkok airport. Anyway, the service on the plane was great.  Unlimited wine for the whole trip. There were guys just standing there with a wine bottle, waiting for you to need more wine.

  9. I wasn't sure where to put this question.

Anyway, I was trying to sign up for Lazada on my computer, and as part of that process, it asks you for a street address and so on, and then it also asks you to place a PIN on a map it has of the area.  So I put the PIN exactly where it's supposed to be, and the site tells me that's not the right PIN for that location.  Does that make any sense?

Could the fact that I'm using a VPN that says I', in Seattle have anything to do with it?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

AI is going to cause massive poverty.  Bill Gates says people will have more time for leisure and be happier.  I think a huge proportion of people are going to be unemployed and it's wishful thinking to think those that benefit will feed any of their increased wealth to the unemployed.

One of my Neighbours is CTO for an international software house, he's downsized his team from 120 to 30 developers.  They are losing clients because their clients now do it with AI.

I don't see AI creating Universal Basic Income, human nature is greed.

I was thinking about this the other day and looked at some historical examples of disruptive technologies.  And while some people may indeed be displaced as the result of AI, that's not to say that massive job opportunities won't open up in other areas.

This may be a bad example for a number of reasons, but it's still on point:

Consider the invention of the cotton gin in 1793. It used to take hours to separate the cotton fibers from the seeds, but with the cotton gin, the speed of this process was hugely increased. Did this displace some workers?  Sure. But the resulting efficiencies changed the game of cotton production entirely. Cotton fabric could be cheaply produced, and this changed not only the economy of the South with an increased need for slaves, but of the North as well and its textile industries.  More slaves were needed to grow and  pick the cotton, and the now more inexpensive product enabled textile factories in the North to profit economically. Of course, slave labor was a bad thing, but I suppose it's not unlike today and the workers at places like Amazon who have jobs because Jeff Bezos disrupted how consumers shop.  Or all the drivers who now work for UPS delivering packages from Amazon.

Or if you don't like that example, consider the invention of the silicon chip and the computers that eventually came along and revolutionized many industries.  Some people lost their jobs, but others found work opportunities in other areas.

You can look back in history and find other examples of other disruptive technologies. The introduction of the railroad. The invention of the internal combustion engine. The industrialization of agriculture. The changes that come along with new technologies are always disruptive, but the end result isn't always bad.

    Well.  I called it!

Israel hit Iran a few hours ago in Operation Lion's Courage.  Iran will respond soon with Operation True Promise 3.
My guess is that within the next week, Israel will take this nuclear.  Then starts Operation Global Nuclear Clownshow.
Once the nuclear genie is let out of the bottle, there won't be any stuffing him back in.

    Nuke2.jpg.0f9ffc1abaae8befc5116cfc3790c730.jpg

This whole thing is nutty beyond belief.  And if Trump and his administration knew about it, shame on him.

The word doesn't need this right now, and it especially doesn't need a broader regional war or a nuclear war.

However it plays out, there will be retaliation, and if Israel takes the next step and goes nuclear, then what?

The rollout trial was originally only for selected media and to ensure no issues staff where to be stationed in an adjacent warehouse to manually oversee and correct any errors during the trial.

As for AI there are certainly applications it will handle very well and others not so much. It all depends on the data set used as reference source. The open internet isn't applicable or effective for AI as there is too much misinformation

For sure, there's a lot of nonsense on the Internet, and so that's sometimes what comes back from an AI agent, depending. Those agents work better for some tasks than for others.  In a sense, though, AI agents are just tools.  Real AI is something else and is a few yers off, perhaps.

I'm not worried about it. It's coming and will be a bigger disruption than many people seem to think. That's a good thing, if you're an investor and can see through the nonsense.

  13. 4 minutes ago, Dan O said:

Yeah with people stationed in a warehouse to oversee and correct operation of the cars.  Not a properly designed demonstration and unveiling although the extra layer of safety may help with the demo.

I don't know about people overseeing operations, but I do think the technology will roll out and spread exponentially. There's lots of big money betting on that happening. And the progression is not linear.  We're probably at or very near an inflection point, not only for Robotaxis, but for all things in the AI universe.

I agree with you.  People die every day but we are outraged when a piece of software kills people, for example, MCAS from Boeing.

Tesla’s FSD maybe orders of magnitude better than humans, but it will only take one fatality that could’ve been saved by LIDAR to change everything

I think you're overly attached to LIDAR and you're engaged in wishful thinking.

As Elon's Robotaxi fleet expands, so will its database. And as that happens, safety will improve.  Of course, it's already safer than human drivers. One death?  They'll make whatever adjustments they deem necessary and move on.  Progress won't be stopped because of a fluke accident.

How many people were killed in the early days of the automobile? Or the early days of aviation?  Or in the early days of the space program?  Accidents happen.  It's part of growth.  No progress happens without risk.

Death to America, death to Israel. Looks like they will just have to rely on suicide bombers LOL.

Rubio just warned Iran that if they attack us, we will get involved.

The Iranian Military Chief of Staff has been taken out.

All the Gulf States are quiet.

Israel says the strikes will continue for several days.

Apparently, Yemen might have a thing or two to say.

There's no way this is contained to Iran/Israel. Unfortunate, but probably true.
