  1. Hi Crossy,

Thanks for the info - I'm setting the Aircon at 22c but because the rooms in my house have floor to ceiling windows and they get the sun in the afternoon the room temp is normally about 26c and I struggle to get it lower in the afternoon.....

My gut feel is that the builders underspec'd the Air Con to keep their costs down - I've added the 24000 & 9000 since I moved into the house - All the units are LG and seem ok but are noisier than the Daikin I had in my condo - I know Daikin are more expensive so I can live with the noise Lol !

  2. Hi All,

    Thanks for the advice..........

Have to confess that up until now I've only ever had GPS/SATNAV that is factory fitted - So I have no idea which model of Garmin to purchase, if anyone can actually tell me the model and where to purchase it in Pattaya I'd be grateful.

    Cheers,

    H.

  3. Absolutely correct - I live about 10 kilometres from Pattaya City and when I tell friends back in the UK where I live they also have this idea of Pattaya being very dangerous.

I've been having holidays in Thailand for the past 25 years normally twice a year, and our children have always accompanied us - Our children are now adults and Thailand and in particular Pattaya has become their holiday destination of choice.....

I like going into the bars as much as the next person but I also like the fact that within 15 minutes I can be on secluded beaches etc.

My wife and I have now retired here and have found this forum a great help - Thanks.......

  4. I should have known better but I purchased an iPhone charger from the night market on Threpasit - Got home and put phone on charge - 15 minutes later I could smell burning, the charger was melting !!

From now on only Apple original chargers for me........

  5. We're driving from Pattaya to Bangkok on Saturday - I've been advised to park up at the Airport and then get the Skytrain

I've not done this before so any info appreciated - The Nearest Sky train station to my destination is Asoke - Where do I have to change trains ????

    Thanks

  6. I've been getting conflicting info re which is the best show ???

At the moment I'm leaning towards Tiffanys, mainly because I've been there a few years ago and thought it was well organised.

I'll be looking for 4 VIP Gold tickets, should I get them from Tiffanys or off a site ? My concern off a site is whether there's a problem when you turn up at Tiffanys ?

    Advice please ??

  7. I've just purchased a new Nissan Nirvana NP300 pick up....

I thought I'd order GPS / SATNAV but apparently not.

It's fitted with a Kenwood screen and seems to have everything except GPS / SATNAV

The Nissan dealership have quoted me 33000 baht to install a GPS / SATNAV is their an App that I can download onto my phone and then get it onto the screen via Bluetooth or similar ??

I'm not sure whe this is possible but if I can avoid spending a further 33000 Bahts it would be good.

    Cheers

  8. Hi All,

I went to the office just outside Pattaya.......

I got a ticket from the machine downstairs and then went upstairs and was given a form to complete, the lady was very helpful.

    I took the following documents.

    Passport

    Certificate of residence

    Medical certificate

    International Driving Permit

I also took a copy of all of the above and remember to sign every copy.

Even though I have a Full UK driving licence I wasn't asked to produce it, however, all of the information is included on the International Driving Permit.

    I have a retirement visa.

I can't comment on other people's experiences with their applications but mine went very smoothly.

I did not have to take any tests other than the 'Brake' test and the 'Colour' sight test.

I'm pretty sure that because my International Driving Permit demonstrated that I had a Full UK driving licence made the application go smoothly.

In my opinion the International Driving Permit goes a long way in assisting with the application.

Cost of licence 205 baht and I purchased a plastic licence holder for 10 baht.

Hope this is of help to some people...

  9. I've obtained my first Thai driving licence this morning.

Arrived at office at 9am gave them completed form and documents - Within 10 minutes had Sight (Colour) test and braking reaction test both completed within 5 minutes.

Then a 20 minute wait until called to have photo taken and then another 15 minute wait to be issued with a 2 year temp licence.

    I left the office at 10.20am !!

All in all a very easy process.......
