I’ve read a few articles in recent years pointing to the rise in the number of middle aged men who have bought motorcycles to recapture their youth. They always have a mid life crisis angle. It turns out quite a few are dying and/or getting seriously injured because they don’t have the same eyesight and reflexes as their youth.
Thailand expats are not exactly the same, but many do as the locals do and buy scooters and motorcycles. Many are new to these. Given their age it’s a recipe for disaster. You have a chance in a car, but it’s almost impossible to fall off or crash a motorcycle and escape without injury. Just take the baht bus.

In a Russia poll Trump would be number one … because he’s just like one of them. A corrupt criminal who wants to turn the US into a dictatorship.

Another poorly written article. The victim sought help from her brother? She did this after using the fire to burn through the rope around her wrist? Luckily she has fireproof wrists … don’t we all.
So what was her brother doing? Was he tied up also? Or was he standing back, smoking a cigarette, as his sister burns in a field?
A mystery, wrapped in an enigma.

They should allow him to leave Thailand, rather than sending him to Russia, where he will be jailed or sent to the front in Ukraine. It is an illegal war, started by a psycho. So for Thailand to send him back is a human rights violation.

Many times in schools, but gave that up as an adult.
Those involved in self defence and close protection try to avoid any confrontation, for good reason. Even if you are defending yourself if you hit or shove someone and they crack their head on the pavement, they could die, and you are in a whole world of trouble. All the self defence training in the world can’t protect you from a knife wound, so although it can help it is no guarantee.
I would focus on confrontation avoidance. If a place doesn’t feel right, get away fast. You don’t want to be the toughest guy in the graveyard.

I wonder why the husband left her? Probably because she kept a "dirty hoose"!

Yes, I know better now. My only advice to anyone is never loan money to anyone.- 1

It's not always deceit. More likely they CAN'T pay you back. That's why they ask in the first place, no money! A lot of people want to pay it back but can't get that job or whatever so it just turns into an avoidance issue.
The man in question had a new job as a retail director, so he was well compensated. I only got my money back when I contacted his CEO privately ... I'm afraid on this occasion he thought he'd found a soft touch. I hadn't seen him for 10 years so the fact that he approached me probably meant that he'd already gone through a steady supply of suckers.

I have found it best to have a rule not to loan money in Thailand. In 19 years I have lost only 10,000 b which is not bad. If I see a good friend in need I would rather make the offer to help him out with a gift of money which was very much appreciated during Covid when I was stuck in my home country.
That makes sense. My loan days are over. Never again. -

I once lent money to a family member. Took 5 years to get it back.
I’m impressed by your perseverance. I didn’t care about the money, I was more enraged by his deceit. If he had called me and said it might take a year or two, I would have been fine - but when he cut communication I realised he was duping me from the beginning.- 1

I have met many foreigners here living in Thailand and one Californian man I was good friends with . He needed help with getting a visa and I loaned him 25000 to pay an agent . Now 8 months later still no return of the money even though he promised the money back in 2 months.
I do not want to see him again as I don't want any trouble.
I have done something similar, with an ex work colleague, who borrowed money that he promised to pay back in 6 weeks, then 3 months, then never heard from him, and he wouldn’t respond to my emails. When I finally reached him (long story) he accused me of harassing him! I’m an obstinate character, so long story, I got my money back.
I was very aware that it is unwise to lend money, but I went ahead anyway. I learned a valuable lesson.

Wouldn't it be better if the Dems had a new leader of their party ?
Joe step down and someone more able take over
Couldn’t we say the same thing about the GOP, who are attempting to put a treasonous insurrectionist into the White House?

Two old guys swapping punches outside a cafe in Dumaguette over an issue that didn't involve them.
A youngish American guy started a Dive Centre and needed funds for its expansion. Apparently another American retiree (ex Cop) didn't want to invest and (in the opinion of the young guy) tried to put off others from investing. So the young guy was hacked off with him, and bad mouthed him, and his Filipina fiancé.
So the young guy's business partner (an old American guy) and the ex Cop's American future brother in law, had a shouting match that turned into handbags at dawn.
Reminds me of an episode of that American comedy classic "Soap".
Moral of the story ... avoid Dumaguette and American ex pats.

If Trump is such a danger to the world, why aren't the Dems willing to manoeuvre Biden out of the way and replace him with someone who can beat Trump in the election?
Surely by keeping a cognitively declining Biden in place it almost guarantees a Trump presidency!
Or do you think Biden is going to miraculously get better and run a successful campaign?
I've no idea. I don't know how easy it would be to manoeuvre Biden out of the race. But I don't think a Trump win is a foregone conclusion ... there's a long way to go.

I have a sense that the particular poster we are responding to may have a saint Petersburg address or perhaps a server somewhere ……
That wouldn’t surprise me in the least. The St Petersburg troll farm used to be under the control of Prigozhin, but I’d guess it’s now FSB or GRU. It will be very active for the 2024 election.- 1

Topic is Biden is too old. TDS rants are not needed. 86% agree.
TDS is what fools shout when they are losing the argument. Go ahead man, vote for the Donald, he needs you. Send him some dollars, he needs you for that too. And make a “we are Q” sign for the inauguration.

You don’t deny that he called fallen soldiers losers and suckers? What an insult to anyone who is currently serving or has ever served.
And let’s just address the “two wars” fallacy.
The war in Ukraine was started by Russia in 2014, with the illegal invasion of Crimea. 2022 was a continuation of that war. A war started by Trump’s boss, Putin. No US forces are involved in that war.
The war in Gaza was triggered by the slaughter of innocents in Southern Israel on 7 October 2023. Nothing to do with the US. And there are no US forces in Gaza or Israel. The only involvement of allies, including the US, is the protection of the Red Sea, and an effort to avoid escalation.
Biden didn’t start any of them. If being President when bad things happens means you are to blame then Trump is to blame for Covid and shutdowns? Even I wouldn’t go that far.

Higher inflation
Chaos at borders
2 wars
Lots of excuses
Now the polls say Biden loses
So you are desperate to vote for a guy like Trump, who refused to visit a US military cemetery in Europe because he didn't want to honour "losers and suckers"?
You get what you deserve.

Thailand braces for intense heat with temperatures soaring
in Thailand News
Posted
I noticed that the number of storms hitting the UK this winter were noticeably higher. Every country is experiencing weird weather systems. If periods of intense heat become normal for Thailand it will reduce expat and tourism numbers. Coupled with the pollution the place will be unpleasant to live in.
