  1. A friend had a beer at the new Anton's yesterday. He said the owner will not be having the buffet at the new place.

Sorry to hear the buffet will be not be offered. It was a good selection for the price. I'll also miss the "homey" feel to the old place and the perches overlooking the street.

  2. I've been waiting for the lifetime special to come around too. I've been doing annual memberships for about 8 years. Like the dunce and cynic I am, I always resisted signing up for the lifetime plan because I figured Tony's would go out of business, as so many clubs do in the U.S. Suffice it to say, I could have saved a lot of money over the years with the lifetime membership. Of course, with my luck, they will now go out of business shortly after I sign up. tongue.png

If you dig through the photos on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tonys-Group/348226221886139?sk=photos_stream), you can find the various past specials for annual and lifetime memberships. The specials are only good for one day. Here are the most recent:

    11-24-2013 Lifetime All Clubs 17990
    01-11-2014 Annual All Clubs 5990
    04-11-2014 Annual All Clubs 6990
    07-19-2014 Lifetime All Clubs14990
    12-23-2014 Lifetime All Clubs15999
03-21-2015 Annual All Clubs 5990 Baht
  3. Peter, the owner of 'Anton' cancelled his rental contract.

Not a big loss for the gourmet-community in my opinion.

He continues business in Anton 2, Soi Roi Lang.

Soi Roi Lang, that consistent with what I found.

Soi Roi Lang is Soi 27, so basicallly just moving around the corner.

If anyone knows, is this Anton 2 (Soi Roi Lang) already open, or is that merely the future location? Thanks!

  4. well...

say goodbye to your old software.....

and let us know how buggy it gets.

I am keeping a perfectly good copy of windows 7...for now.

Losing old software is my concern too. I have an old Photoshop (CS3) version and do not want to lose it. I have not seen a definitive list of which versions of any particular application will or will not work, so I don't see the point in being an early adopter of Windows 10. Let a few hundred million guinea pigs struggle with it for now. We will be able to make more educated choices in a few months.

  5. I saw an enjoyable film recently called "Chef," in which a prominent theme was the making of a proper Cuban sandwich. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chef_%28film%29 I'll have to give one a try at Pastrami and Rye.

    FYI:

The Cuban sandwich at the world famous Pastrami and Rye Jomtien is Tampa Florida style.

That means they include some salami.

Do I think this is a good thing? Yes.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_sandwich

The main regional disagreement about the sandwich’s recipe is whether or not to include salami. In Tampa, Genoa salami[3] is traditionally layered in with the other meats, probably due to influence of Italian immigrantswho lived side-by-side with Cubans and Spaniards in Ybor City.[9][14][15] In South Florida, salami is left out.[16]
  6. I can't imagine anybody resurrecting Ocean 1.

While that's a nice thought, it's worth considering that their website (http://www.ocean1tower.com) remains online 9 years running. Moreover, their sales office on Thappraya Road has also remained open all these years, with their large and distinctive sign with an image of the proposed tower. As earlier "buyers" are apparently trying to get their deposits back for a half dozen years, it would appear that new buyers are still being recruited. The internet archive (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ocean1tower.com/*) has copies of portions of their web page since 2006. It's hard to imagine this project not being under legal scrutiny in any western country, but TIT.

  7. Not that I usually spend more money than I have on me in a bar or any where for that matter but if I did after reading this I would ask one of the bar staff to walk with me to the ATM and then walk back with them to the bar so all staff can see I paid.

I certainly do not condone the thuggery of the guards and the others, but I have been in this situation a few times over the years and his behavior is begging for a misunderstanding. I would ask a service girl to accompany me to the ATM, and make sure that she explains to anyone intercepting us that all was ok. Just walking out of the bar towards an ATM is not appreciated in any country that I have been to. A little common sense avoids most problems in this country.

  8. Pardon my ignorance but what is an Android streaming box and do we need a subscription like I have with Truevision to be able to watch TV or we only need an internet access?

Welcome to the workd of free tv, movies and radio. 8 months ago I asked a similar question and since then I have bought a preprogrammed android box, then I bought a minix x8-8 and programmed it my self and finally I build and Intel windows based home theatre PC.

An android box like the minix x8-8 costs between 4-5,000 baht. It comes already loaded with a program called xbmc ( now Kodi). You connect the box to the Internet and plug the box into to your tv with a hdmi cable and you now have over 2 million hours of tv and movies at your finger tips with new tv shows being added every day. You also have live sports but you need to do a little set up first.

Pretty much you have every season and every episode of your favorite tv shows. New episodes of current tv shows are added hours after they run in the states or uk. You have them before Truevisions have them. Movies currently in the box office take a little longer to appear but any movie older then 6 months is there on demand.

Xbmc can be a little fiddlly and when you first get your box you will need to download what they call a repository from a site called tvaddons.ag. The download is called fusion and it includes a setup wizard for your xbmc. They have u tube videos and instructions to walk you through every step of the process. In addition they have a forum which you can read.

Finally you can ask questions here as a lot of tv members use xbmc and there is even a thai visa member that has developed live tv addons for xbmc that you are included when you download the fusion repisitory.

I'm another newbie. I understand that XBMC is a media player software program that runs on an android box connected to the internet. My question is, where exactly does the content come from? AJBangkok's statement "Welcome to the world of free tv, movies, and radio" sounds too good to be true, unless legalities are being swept under the rug. How are copyright issues handled when the description above states that shows and movies are almost immediately available? Could someone address the legality of this "free" scheme?
