  1. Something looks wrong here

"Motorcycles accounted for 86.6% of all accidents, but pickup trucks 5.8% and private vehicles 3.7%"

Most of the gruesome pictures we see on the net appear to involve collisions between motorcycles and vehicles, and normal practice is to blame the larger of the 2, ie the cars & trucks. Hard to imagine all those motorcycle accidents were self inflicted, even if the riders were drunk.

So, wouldn't a more realistic breakdown show something like 50/50 distribution?

Wondering what analysis is done by the authorities on accident causes.....probably none, since things haven't changed for years....

  2. Motherhood statements won't do much....they need to actually do something.....

According to their own statistics, around 70% of fatalities are due to motorcycle accidents. So maybe a bit of education, enforcement of licences, helmets, numbers of riders on one bike, road rules and confiscation of licences /bikes for serious offenders.

Who knows, they might reduce the road toll by 50% !

  3. I asked my girlfriend once what the speed limit on the highway was because the signs all said 90, but she wasn't sure if they were minimum or maximum speeds. Traffic was whizzing by on the inside & outside, so I gave up on that one. Have to say though that 120 seems ok, because modern cars are designed to drive safely at much faster speeds, and most Thais don't obey the rules anyway. By the way, she told me that she had many speeding tickets at home, but never bothered to pay and never had any follow up. Sounds like Nirvana for speed hoons.....

  4. Not wishing to be a smart-<deleted>, but the solution seems obvious: if most of the deaths occur with motorcycles (up to 80%?) then concentrate on motorcycle safety. All it takes is enforcement : compulsory helmets; minimum age for riders, compulsory drivers license; and obeying traffic rules, eg not running red lights, riding against traffic  etc etc......and enforcing fines or impounding bikes.Could be unpopular but might cut the road toll by 50%.

  5. The virus is continually mutating (eg UK strain & South Africa strain etc) and some "experts " are already saying there is doubt if available vaccines will be as effective by the time they're administered. But many of the Falang itching to return to Thailand may be happy to take any COVID vaccine, if that's what is required to get the certificate for air travel & entry.....and rely on social distancing, masks, hand washing etc...

  6. Creative but not logical thinking.....infected golfers can pass on the virus to other golfers, staff and caddies. Then there's the risk of room "visitors " passing on the virus to the outside community, or in the case of caddies/hotel staff, sharing it around among themselves. Then there's the drunkenness aspect.....Good luck Thailand, you're going to need it, with these nobs in charge.....!!
