It's obviously also a question of the perspective.

Years ago, I considered people who are 60 and older old.

Now I have friends, who I mostly know since many years, who are in their 70th and I still don't consider them old.

I think everyone one of us moves the goalpost as we age when I was 20 people in there 30's were old .the goalpost kept moving till  now

Do these traffic offences carry prison sentences?

I'm sure if someone is a serial offender the penalty could easily justify a night in the cells till dealt with by a judge.

You I assume by your header are English many poll tax protesters finished up in jail for a civil offence so any offence can escalate to be an offence that can land you in jail.

If as stated he is a menace to everyone you won't hear me crying for him

I wonder if some of the posters on here have even been to Phuket because they seem totally clueless.

I've been to phuket did not like it ( my opinion and long time ago) at that time apart from the rascal vans and taxi only alternative I saw if you want to go to other part was truck style kind you see workers being transported @ building sites.i felt whole place was run by mafia I left 2 days early to return to the tranquility of pattaya.

Not time to worry. I plan to be non tax resident here. Fortunately I have other nice places to live and can, and will spend time there. My situation is simpler perhaps, insofar as I don't work at all and earn no income. My income is all from pensions and from investments, all in the US, and taxed there. But until the situation clarifies and the rules and processes are fully known I'm not risking bringing money into Thailand. I have enough here to last me until I die anyway.

The only money I have paid directly is US SS because if I ever need to this covers the income method rule for my visa.

We all have enough money to last until we die as long as I die by next Tuesday I'm ????

Most people buy as much as they can afford. As inflation rises they get squeezed out of the place they purchased because their income dwindles and does not buy as much. If you rent you can easily move into a cheaper place if needed.

Does not sound like much but we probably have years of higher inflation ahead and it has a snowball effect.

It often manifests as people asking about money, family members needing loans, or wanting partners in property or business, etc. I'm hearing it already from relatives who bought 5 years ago.

Since I assume most of us here are farangs unless thai wife borrowed money to buy your condo or house I'm sure most bought outright so yes your cam fees have to be paid but unless your other expenses increase you are mostly inflation covered?

"Thai men are renowned for being rational people"? I guess all the reports of shootings, stabbings etc. over face and/or affairs of the heart are just fake news.

I suppose it would be too much to guess that I was writing tongue in cheek style ???? I have to guess English is not your first language?

If so check a dictionary look up humour ????

I read somewhere on this forum that Maneerat will open a Bangkok bank account for a total THB5,200 which includes accident insurance and THB500 deposit so it will actually cost THB4,700.

If that's right it's excellent ty I will give it a go next month when I'm there.

  9. Hi this is a subject that has been covered but I'm hoping perhaps someone has already followed this route.

I am still working and living in Switzerland but would like to open a bank account in Thailand.

I think it's siam legal ( solicitors) say for 5000 plus vat (5350 baht) you can open an account with Bangkok bank with perhaps having to take insurance with the bank ( I assume 100% you need to take insurance) at moment I visit Thailand on 30 day visa exempt and wondered any member followed this route? If so how much was the insurance? I know the " insurance " is waste of time but hoping to get a number if say 3000 I can say ok 8.350 I will do it thanks in advance
