Furthermore I left out a tid bit which I believe is total bs. The agent informed me there’s a chance when I do exist because I’m overstay I may get a overstay stamp in my passport.

@OJAS my thoughts exactly except one big problem. I’m holding a US passport and most likely won’t be allowed back in for some time. For sure not in August! Which why I was going to ask on a new thread about other options. Which at this point is a work permit.......?
And before I get chastised for not doing this earlier; I actually did get a retirement visa already, but my agent and of course ultimately I screwed up and didn’t get a multiple entry.

I think you’re right uponjoe.

I recently went into the Pattaya immigration to inquire about applying for a retirement Visa. I have enough money in bank and meet all requirements. I’m currently on a tourist Visa that expired on April 14. I had contacted a agent first to ask about them doing it for me. After I provided a copy of my stamp in passport she said I was overstay and that she could still get a retirement visa for me, but it would require “special service”. Code for 24,000baht. I Said wait there’s a amnesty until July31. She than said that the amnesty is for overstay fees only, but I’m officially still overstay. I have a friend who has lived here for 20+ years and is an authority on pretty much everything. He said he hadn’t heard anything of this and doubted that it’s true.
So the next day I paid a visit to Pattaya immigration. Sat down with a immigration agent in the retirement Visa section and was told the exact same thing. The agent than instructed me of the “special service”.
Has anyone heard this? Or is this just a Pattaya specific rule to get me to avail of “special services”?

I’m a bit confused. I read the article published in The Nation. It says automatic renewal until April 30. Is it 30 days from date of expiration or April 30?

Yes, most consulates will allow you to apply by mail. Just check their website. There is a list here: http://www.thaiconsu.../hon_consul.pdf
For a non-O you normally need your wedding certificate, your passport and copy, copy of wife's ID/passport if you have the hosuhold registration (not that important in the US) and a small, imple, note from the misses asking for a visa for you.
More info is ogften also on the website.
Thanks Mario
What website are referring to?
For O Visa are there multi entry?
I sent the Hawaii Thai consulate a email. It's the closet to me. Hopefully they will reply with what exactly is needed.

I'm American, 48 years old and recently married a Thai in the USA (we got her a fiance Visa). We did not register our marriage in Thailand. I am interested in getting a Non Immigrant O Visa. Couple questions:
Can someone provide me a link for a step by step guide?
We currently live in the U.S., but do not live near a Thai Embassy or Consulate. I'm wondering if I can send my Passport to a Thai Embassy/Consulate with the proper documents here in the U.S. to get the Visa?
Thank you

Thanks for the help. Hotel we are staying at is behind Robinson's just back from Asoke. There are 2 of us and we will be arriving Suvarnabhum at 2:45PM with just 1 carry on bag and a brief case.

Have to fly to BKK next week from Chiang Rai and want to use the Rail Link to get to BKK. I usually stay at a hotel just off Asoke and Sukhumvit. I read the map section on the Rail Link website, but none of the locations are familiar to me. Can someone please tell me where if any of the stops are located along Sukhumvit, preferably between Asoke and Nana ?

I've done it many times +10 and never had any problems. The roads are almost as good as Thailand and rarely a money stop. The farther you get into the country the better !

Crossing in my truck into Laos from Thailand at Chiang Khong this coming Monday. Than exiting Laos to Thailand at Nong Khai. Does anybody know if there is any problem if I bring my small dog with me for the trip ? I plan on asking the Thai officials in Chiang Khong, but would hate to make the trip to be turned away at the border.
Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. Where I live I'm surrounded by Dutch not unfortunately snake eating Thais. I may ask the owner if I can level the area of possible snake refuge. However it's a nice area with flowers and small shrubs. He may not want to. Also I will buy another garbage can to ensure all garbage is enclosed and not out to attract rats. When I first moved in I commented how nice it was that I never saw any rodents. Well now I think I know why

Perfect Sven ! So will people be able to add to this or will it have to be submitted to you and you add it ?
Here is a link to a new Google-map that only have (and hopefully will have) locations for restaurants, bars and coffeshops in Chiang Rai province!
Restaurants, bars and coffeshops in Chiang Rai
Maybe we should start a new topic "Restaurants, bars and coffeeshops in Chiang Rai" and the moderator can replace the old one?
edit: It is open for everyone to contribute! We will see how that will go

Well, said snake took refuge in some shrubbery that is located right next to my front door and walkway that leads in and out of my house. I also have a dog the size of a large rat. So enough of the jokes or hijacking of my thread please. The reason I asked of the type of snake was there was another snake spotted at a neighbors house. They were of the opinion it was a constrictor. I know Cobras can be black, but the only constrictor I know of that's black is a Anaconda and I'm not sure they have those up here or in Thailand. A Cobra residing mere feet from where my family and I habitat is a bit unsettling.

Just got home from shopping and when I pulled up my neighbor came over to tell me he just saw a big snake in my driveway. He described it as solid black, 2 meter in length, and diameter as big as the end of a baseball bat. Any ideas what it might be? Hoping a constrictor of some kind and not a cobra???

Slow. It would be great help if some of the old timers could have a look at the list and tell me which ones are no longer open?! For example I looked for Tree House restaurant yesterday. I drove around and around and couldn't find it. Not saying it isn't there and in all honesty I only glanced at Sven's map before heading out, but I couldn't find it. Will try again. Been to a few of the others on the list. Once I've visited, photographed and did a personal review I'll start learning how to either add to Sven's map or start my own.
Have patience. AS with everything up here in the Rai things move slowly.
So, how is the map progressing?

Thanks. The two on the map are the Dusit and the public courts. Not sure how much it costs to play at Dusit?
this should help : http://www.tennis-th...nis-courts.html

Not so sure about that. You definitely need to be careful of Johnny Walker. That's why all real Johnny has the special pour spout now. Higher end wines are definitely being counterfeited and there was a load of Penfold 2's that came in once that I bought a few bottles of that were either spoiled along the way or not real.
That said I buy all my wines outside of Thailand. It's outrageous what Thailand charges in duties and taxes. So it's worth the risk. Maybe it's not as convenient as Burma, but there are some great wine shops in Vientiane.
Also I think they have changed what you are allowed in from (2) bottles to (1). At least that's what they told me at the airport when I came back with more.

There are nice tennis courts at Rajabhat University, drive in through the main entrance and take your first left, they are just on the corner on your left. Ajarns and students play every day around 4.30pm and would welcome another player.
Do you need to have a student id to play or can anyone show up?
-
I don't know where are the "best" places to play but this is a clean place to play. It is located at the picnic table icon on the map and you can see the tennis courts in the pic. As far as I know, it is free. It is a public park. Click on the satellite view for the best map details.

There are many other tennis courts in town but I can't recall where I have seen them all.
Next to where you guys had the potluck. Was going to try and find that yesterday, but didn't make it. Will try tomorrow. Thanks

A friend is staying with me and he would like to play some tennis. Where are the places around town to play? I checked Dusit awhile back and the courts look nice, but I would imagine access comes at a price???

Don't forget to tryout all the various restaurants on all three floors of the Mall. As previously suggested in another thread, don't try to do them all in one day.
Any and all restaurants are welcome. Theres no such thing as bad input. However I would suspect chains like McDonalds, Fuji and MK are pretty much the same everywhere you go.
-
Sounds like a plan!
It would be great to be able to not only read about a restaurant, but find it on the map directly from the restaurant guide page.
Great idea!
Thanks. Kind of envision it like a WikiRai for restaurants. However I need to learn a few things on how to do it. For example you cannot upload a excel file to TVF. So I will definitely need help on different levels; technical, guide structure and of course restaurants.
I suspect some will be apprehensive at first, but I hope once it gets going they will come on board.

I would guess the spreadsheet ought to be in the "Good Restaurants in CR" thread.
I debated posting it there and I agree it's ultimate home should be there, but wanted to give it more attention by starting on it's own thread.
Hey Kandahar you post alot about restaurants and quite a few on the list come from you (Limbo and Sven too). How about giving it a look and see what needs to be corrected?

I’m also interested in the Accord. Did you end up buying one? Hard to get specific info. Interested in knowing the exact differences in the 3 models available? Appreciate the info you provided. I don’t live in Pattaya, but expect easier to communicate with the dealers there.
