I don't believe there is any scam, but I just hope that every Baht that people send her goes to her and her alone.
Hope is a wonderful thing, but the word 'trustees' and 'I have never seen this much money in my life' do ring alarm bells, I hope she still has the drive to go to university with a million in the bank, and the 'trustees' are trustworthy enough to ensure that it all goes to the intended use.
I am not belittling the young girls situation, but am aware also of how things work, and we may well be donating to a member of the government or police force in the longer term even though the intentions are good.- 1

I know I will get some serious cr4p for this one but I have donated millions to underprivileged people in Thailand, in the end they stole my business, house, motorbikes and threatened to kill me.
Call me cynical if you like!
I really do hope the little girl does well in the future, and Thailand can prove wrong all the corruptness that existed and still exists when this money comes to be used longer term as it is intended for the young girls future.
My next thought is how many more articles are we going to start seeing like this, it could be a whole new go fund me business in the making.
I will hold off on my donation until I see some follow ups to this story, I would definitely donate the little girl has had a sh111t life so far and only seems to want to better herself.

Anyone remember the 700B cash fee to LEAVE Thailand?
Not unusual this in Asia, a similar price to get an Emigration Clearance Certificate in the Philippines if you have stayed in the country more than 6 months, actually sensible in a way to ensure you haven't been a naughty boy whilst in country. Complicates the leaving process a little but price and time isn't really a major headache if you are organised and have the financial means to travel the different countries.
Also many countries have visa entry fees, surprised Thailand haven't done it sooner.- 2

Reckon the point of the article was aimed more at the duality of Thailand when saying it is OK in one social circle but not in another.
Don't think it is fair to start discussing how beautiful she is or isn't, the point is she should be allowed to compete in a beauty pageant like most other fist world countries would allow occupations from any walk of life. For a country to reverse all it's principles on drugs (legalising marijuana) and also reverse all it's principles on gambling opening 6 casinos to recover some money after covid shows more about duality of man than anything else.
Why is a school teacher taking part in a beauty pageant even a problem?- 1

Not to mention that the so-called digital nomad remote working is technically illegal. (open to debate,,,) They really do need to have a change in the law to be crystal clear about digital nomads in Thailand working for or deriving income from foreign entities.
This is true being a 'digital nomad' myself, it is a very grey area in Thailand, it seems to be accepted and when I am in Thailand I am not scared about telling people that I work remotely nobody seems to care.
However if there was some sort of official legislation put into place, I would not mind paying some sort of tax in Thailand if that contributed to an extended visa that meant I didn't have to leave the country every 2 months, that's the bit they need to fix rather than harping on about their media ratings.
Philippines is much better, you still renew your visa every two months but don't have to leave the country for 3 years.- 1

Some comments about his boxing skills, that will never defeat a pickup vs motorcycle/motorsyke, also discussions on third party insurance good luck with that one when you are a foreigner and a Thai person runs you over.

His right eye doesn't look too good - don't imagine a boxer could have done that! His right leg looks pretty messed up too.
Looks like a very strong cool guy I'm sure he will recover looking at this. Why does everyone need 60 thousand pounds?
---- EDIT
He wasn't that handsome before the accident hehe
Get well soon tho fella, a s41t situation but you are a strong young lad, your are looking well even with a black eye and dodgy leg.
If you had 60k pounds you'd just buy a ticket back to Thailand and probably a Ducati on arrival! -
Just knocked up a quick web-site and domain regarding situations like this, it happens far too often!
I am not making light of this situation but I plan to develop it with advice on leaving your own country, getting the correct insurance and advice in countries where medical care may not be what us westerners are used to.
The website was made in 5 minutes (hence no content as yet) but I will update it to reference stories like this (with the relevant tags to the stories origins) and attempt to make it a useful tool, I have been in dodgy situations myself so genuinely feel for people in this situation, Thai Visa (Asean Now) is the best referential source if you know how to navigate it for good advice, a dedicated website referencing bad situations may make people or families think twice about skipping on the correct travel insurance.

I just do not get this, I feel really sorry for the dude he must be in a world of pain obviously, but why do we see this time and time again someones family launching an appeal for money on 'fund my unfunded uninsured families holiday.com'
Travel Insurance is meant for a purpose then families don't need to beg if god forbid disaster happens whatever the circumstances.
I will not be donating, harsh I know but as a boy scout you should always be prepared nobody is invincible.
Same story and same responses I am seeing.

Anyway its all about what you think is more important. If looks are all you care about and you want younger then its harder. But if you ok with a lil closer to your age things get easier.
I hear you buddy and very true.
I was married for 10 years to a Thai lady, took her to England, we (I thought) were very happy, did everything together. Took care of her and her family in Thailand but when I was at work she was doing the dirty on me.
Could be just my bad experience but I am sure I am not the first person that has happened to.
Not much of an age difference between us maybe 10 years which is not unusual in England either. All over that now anyways I think she has moved on to a different country now - good luck to that guy!
Apologies for my cynicism ????- 3

How, by walking on water ........or wait an Oligarch could take them home on his super yacht......thats the ticket
I am guessing a couple of those yachts are not allowed back into Russia now, and many Oligarchs probably on their way back to Russia given the current sentiment, even if they wanted to they couldn't use a Visa or Mastercard to help anyone to get home!

As a staunch Manchester United fan to see them play against our arch rivals Liverpool in Thailand - I would definitely pay 25k, as long as they both had their first teams playing.
I am probably going against the flow of this thread saying that - but the increased entrance fees probably covers their travel, fees (possible quarantine) and any beautiful Thai lady that crosses the teams paths ????
Yes I would pay that!

I was in Cebu at the time and had a reasonable 1000w generator - thinking i'm ahead of the game!
By the time Typhoon Rai/Odette had finished it was on its side along with a couple of my neighbors roofs.
The good times still outweigh the bad though ????

I think it is a matter of luck especially when it comes to Typhoons where they hit - as far as Volcanoes go just don't live near them, floods and rainy season is all around but has finished now hehe

Love you Warney from your favourite Pom fan, I don't care what you did or when you did it, you are a legend my friend and always will be.

I'm stunned by this. Definitely the greatest spin bowler of all time. And that is coming from a Pom who's cricket team he bamboozled on many occasions.
R.I.P Shane, gone too soon.
As a pom I always loved Shane Warne - I used to shout at him when he was out fielding in the Oval to try and wind him up, and he would just turn around and smile ???? the guy was a legend, he would go back in and take 5 English wickets and then just smile back ????
Also did a lot for English cricket too in the south, he is irreplaceable in cricket.
He will be a massive miss to not just Oz and England - to all the cricket world -
Appreciate all the feedback team - all information is good - I am probably going to hold off a little while until the traveling restrictions decrease a little bit.

Koh Samui should be safe - I hope you were keeping it real.
I am English but played cricket my entire life and he was my legend, not just about the Mike Gatting super ball, also about how he mentored teams in the south of England.
He was a legend to the sport, had his ups and downs but don't we all?
RIP Mr Warne - and apologies for shouting bad at you the Oval that time - but you would have done the same to me!
A massive loss to English Cricket as well as Australian cricket.

Now all good - I am not an IT expert so I think that is where I messed up, but that site is not very user friendly!
Hugely appreciated all for your input thanks team and see you in the land of smiles soon! (not the land of good web-sites)

What am I doing wrong? I assume other people are able to apply through this site?
I have used two different computers two different mobile devices with different accounts but same result.
Cleared cache and history etc. getting a QR code is more impossible than a PCR test at the moment ????
Appreciate your help though all.

Very true, If I was a teacher or principle making 10-15k a month and the signer of an account with over 1 million in it, it would tempt me!
Happened before and will happen again, don't mean to be the bringer of doom and gloom in a sad story, but lets wait for the follow up stories in a few months/years.
i) Did she make it to university and what course is she studying?
ii) How has the money been distributed between life living and university fees etc
iii) Have the 'trustees' provided transparency on the money that has left the 'donation' bank account
iv) Are the school/trustees taking fees for being a trustee and if so how much %
v) I know they said no ATM card provided to alleviate everyone's fears - but that means nothing, how many required signatures and who does it take to make a transaction, this fund is already at 1mil and could go upwards of 2mil if people keep on donating, that would be a good reason for me not to go to university!!
Happened so many times before, I am being cynical and if it does turn into a success story I will donate generously to outweigh my current cynicism in this university funding campaign, as an aside there are many more worthy causes to spend a lot of money donating to.
