Usually the other way round with me and my misses its me trying to get out of the car and her dragging me in! BS social media could have got the bloke into serious trouble that with reports of a firearm and then all over the news that's why I don't even have Facebook, the people who posted the videos should be charged for giving Thailand a bad image.

Yeah TBH I am just messing with you I'm gonna see how it all pans out before I make any leaving or country hopping plans, but certainly not submitting any tax returns on my savings and money I have earnt elsewhere and already paid tax on in a different country. Not even gonna give them my own countries TIN as none of their business. If we did start paying tax I very much doubt that will give us any more rights i.e. healthcare, property ownership, residency, visa imp[rovements or treated any differently to we are now. To add to my previous point if I spent half a year out of Thailand the bar and massage GDP would go down 50% they would be begging me to come back hahaha

I have a solution for everyone that I am going to seriously contemplate myself. Firstly I believe the taxation rules only apply in Thailand if you spend more than 180 days a year in the country, Philippines is 183. 1/2 and 1/2 is the way forward plus you also don't get too bored of one place. My tax consultancy is much cheaper than that guy in Pattaya or @Card please feel free to contact me on 0800 NOMORETAX 555. In the Philippines, the taxation rules for foreigners transferring money from their own country depend on several factors, such as the purpose of the transfer, the nature of the income, and whether the foreigner is considered a resident or non-resident for tax purposes. Here's a breakdown of key points: 1. Residency Status Resident Aliens: Foreigners who reside in the Philippines and have stayed in the country for at least 183 days within a calendar year are taxed on their Philippine-sourced income. Non-Resident Aliens: Foreigners who do not meet the residency requirement are generally taxed only on income earned within the Philippines.

Are you sure you are not a tax advisor 🙂 How are they going to enforce it? Not extend your visa? There are a few friendly IO's around that will require some form of tax 😉 but cheaper and less administration/paperwork! Other countries they send bailiffs to your house to seize property etc, how can they do that when foreigners don't own anything here? 🙂 I can't imagine the banks in a hurry to freeze or close peoples accounts down doesn't make much business or financial sense for them to do that! Are they going to send foreigners to jail here for not paying taxes? Can't see that happen either the jails would be full and would cause a bit of an international outcry and give Thailand a 'bad image' Would also be against human rights in general to restrict your travel on the basis of any tax debts.

Another event to promote an accountancy firm and tell everyone what they already know, I bet the poor Pattaya xpats left the meeting scratching their heads and more confused than when they walked in, I would need a beer after that! I think most xpats if they don't have a family here, and none will own property in any case will just hop on a plane should they come looking for back taxes. Hello Philippines!

Extend stay after retirement visa expires
PomPolo replied to Sjoerd's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Hey guys apologies for confusing the OP I piggy backed onto this thread and really should have started a seperate one when I had all my details! Just found a photocopy of my passport main page and expires in April (not my retirement!) which must mean my new non o expires 1 year from Jan but inside my passport so can't check that one for a week or so - any more questions I still start a new thread rather than confuse this one anymore hangover from the weekend 🙂 Thanks again -

Extend stay after retirement visa expires
PomPolo replied to Sjoerd's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I think it is probably me confusing things with my dates, I need to double check these, but guess the principle of my question still stands i.e. I get my new passport before my last 90 days how can I do a 90 day? And if I do the 90 day on my existing passport and get a new passport before the retirement expires will I have to stay in Thailand until I renew the retirement onto my new passport, my dates may be duff I think but think the question may still be valid. -
Extend stay after retirement visa expires
PomPolo replied to Sjoerd's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Much appreciated all, I think I have actually confused myself and need to read my passport and probably should have before I got on the thread. It's still that time between my last 90 days and the visa expiry where I would have a new passport that confuses me. -
Extend stay after retirement visa expires
PomPolo replied to Sjoerd's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I am not sure if it was when I applied for it and probably need to re-read my passport. I am guessing the logical thing to do would be to try and schedule getting the new passport in between my last 90 day renewal and the expiry of the retirement, and make sure I don't need to do an exit for a couple of months. -
Extend stay after retirement visa expires
PomPolo replied to Sjoerd's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Hello everyone and thanks for you help with this one, it is confusing the heck out of me, and possible I am not explaining very clearly! It is Udon Immigration office. It is a standard non-o retirement that I have renewed which is now valid until April 26 but there are obviously restrictions I believe like having 6 months remaining on the passport to renew so wouldn't be able to do that on the current passport in April next year given the current passport expires in September. So for example: i) If I got my new passport in November this year, just before my 90 days, could I do a 90 day on my new passport, I have a friendly IO that I could ask ii) If I got my 90 days in November between November and April when my visa expires would an entry/exit be possible? iii) As mentioned by @suzannegoh going to Lao after I get the new passport might be a possibility and then just renew my retirement on my new passport when got back? Ah sorry just read @DrJack54 response yes without an Exit would kill off my non-o -
Extend stay after retirement visa expires
PomPolo replied to Sjoerd's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
She told me to get a new one before my retirement visa expires in April 2026 (5 months before the passport expires) but that means my Retirement stamps will be in my old invalid passport with the corner cut off in it which is where my concern is. For example I go and try and do a 90 day, but I have a passport with no retirement stamp in it only an old one with the corner cut off that has my retirement in it, also if I wanted to do an exit/entry in the time between getting the new passport and a 90 day how would that be possible? -

@DrJack54 I know this one is slightly off topic (it has probably been discussed many times) but in a similar vein, my retirement visa expires and I want to renew it April next year but my UK passport expires and needs renewed before September next year. I definitely need to get a new passport. If I get a new passport before my retirement expires can I get the remainder put in my new passport or do I simply maintain 2 passports (with the corner cut off one) and then just do the renewal into my new passport in April next year? I have a very friendly IO that I can probably get the info from but not due to see them for another 90 days, I should have asked last time them this time they just told me I need to get a new passport before the next renewal. -
Thailand Opts for Gripen Jets Over F-16s in Defence Upgrade
PomPolo replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Very true and initially the plan was to buy another 12 to 14 new Gripen E/F fighters, with a budget of 19 billion baht between 2025 and 2029. They already have 51 F16's not really a bad sized air force for a country with no enemies! As mentioned in previous posts I think there could be more socially beneficial usages for that amount of money. -
Ah, I haven't really been keeping up with the story to TBH, if so then some possible culpability if the inspection of the said bearings have not been included in maintenance procedures by the company. Just found the below on the web seems to mention design phase so sounds like Leonardo might not be squeaky if there is a design issue! "The report highlighted safety system flaws in the helicopter and the actions of Leonardo S.p.A., the Italian manufacturer of the aircraft. The AAIB report concluded that the crash resulted from the failure of dual bearings and the tail rotor control system, both critical components identified by Leonardo during the design phase as essential for safe operation. Their failure caused the helicopter to lose control, spin violently, and crash, igniting a fire."

I heard they historically have done this to keep order on election day, not sure how may tourists will be voting! Also heard the 7/11 bans are mainly done prevent Thais from purchasing alcohol underage or work reasons or something however not sure on that one. Either way the archaic laws make no sense to apply to tourists. They seem to manage OK with split pricing and working out who a tourist is so might as well apply the same knowledge when selling alcohol. Not that I will be that desperate for a couple of days to get smashed!

All very well and good but it doesn't really make much sense they have a photo of a Russian off license in the article!

Heartbroken Irish mum honours ‘special son’ lost on Koh Tao
PomPolo replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
RIP little brother doesn't go into much detail of what happened but does sound like a genuine tragic accident (unlike some other fatalities that have caught the headlines in Koh Tao) while scuba diving which I believe can be dangerous at times.
