  1. This is the excuse every time, isn't it. So remove all the pedestrian crossings and they'll continue having to run across the middle of the road. That sounds much safer.
  2. Thailand has enough problems already and the TAT has no common sense. Skip it. No one needs Formula 1.
  3. If Thailand wants to be a "hub" for digital nomads they need to come up with a more realistic and flexible digital nomad visa. I can understand tightening up the overseas payment systems somewhat, but they still need to make it workable for a wide variety of transactions.
  4. And what makes you think that 'Wise' won't have to adhere to Thai government requirements as well?
  5. If a kid's school's online lessons are "a joke" someone isn't doing it right. Either the teacher hasn't done the work to make the lessons engaging or challenging, or the parents haven't been paying close enough attention to what the student is supposed to be doing. I have almost a hundred students and we have lesson plans for every class. The good students whose parents work with them to make sure they do the assignments and homework are enjoying classes and doing well. Yes, some kids are excelling at online learning. The kids who are struggling often don't show up to class and don't do the assignments, putting them further behind. Then the parents say "online learning sucks". Hmm. So, okay. It's up to you.
  6. Yes, I set up a PIN. That's what I used to attempt a balance inquiry. I haven't tried setting up a Google voice yet.
  7. So I can choose to have to have Charles Schwab covert to Thai baht first? In their app?
  8. It's a visa. I did register it when it arrived a few months ago. But for some reason the ATMs declined the transaction.
  9. I'm an American teaching abroad in Thailand. After clearing some difficult residency and address hurdles I finally got my Charles Schwab debit card activated. When I attempted a trial run to do a "balance inquiry" at local SCB and Krungthai ATMs today, I was unsuccessful. Has anyone had any experience with using one of these cards in Thailand? I know it's a "chip" card. Does it go into the same slot for withdrawals? Also, the menu options seem problematic. There are three: a.) Savings b.) Current Account and c.) Credit Card. Which is the correct option to withdraw or make an inquiry?
  10. It's shocking that they're even considering this. I agree, every Thai person I know rejects Sinovac. And yet the nation still accepts these clowns who are endangering public safety. They have no conscience.
  11. This is a risky proposition. It would be very bad if the Chinese came in a bought up EVEN MORE property than they've already done with condos. It would be nice for farang if they could buy a house and some land, but I'm just afraid to see a land rush with a lot of unforeseen consequences.
  12. This would be a huge relief. I came from Washington State in the USA, which is a major wine producer, and the selection at our supermarkets was huge and very affordable. I was shocked to come to Thailand and see some of our 'worst' and cheapest wines at 3 to 4 times the price. Hopefully the markets and shops will lower prices accordingly.
  13. A guy previously tagged with that title in the 1990s was from Seattle. (No, not Bill Gates.) Maybe the guy who marketed the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee sex tape.
  14. Everyone says that they know who to blame for this mess, but the Thai people (other than a few scattered students) have decided not to do anything about it. So... that's it then.
  15. I'm an American. I just got my first dose today at BNH. Didn't think it was ever going to happen at the rate things were progressing. Once inside they were very organized. It went well. My next dose will be in September, which is sooner than I expected.
