I was thinking of getting a teaching job too but the pay stinks.  I would recommend getting a job under the table as a dishwasher but the pay would also stink.

I know of some guys who have "done the cards" so to speak.  You could get 5million or more if you get your credit score up enough at a few banks.  I guess you might be able to retire early that way.  It's just that there's no returning home when you've burned all your bridges.

thais wont give a foreigner a dishwasher job, not fair for the unemployed thai's. not sure what you mean by 'done the cards' but I don't want to break the law..

Have you got your visa sorted out? A one way ticket might be a problem at immigration if you haven't.

i was in Bangkok in April, arrived with a one way ticket, no problems, just like the last few times, never had a problem with arriving with a one way ticket.

i get 30 days free stay no visa as I'm from the UK, if I want to stay longer i just go to the immigration building and pay for a visa extension

  3. got a missed call yesterday from an employer for the kitchen porter job I applied for when I was having doubts about my plan for SEasia

I don't think I'll call them back, I need to man up as someone said, and just go and stick with my plan, plus I've already paid for the one way flight and meal around £200 all together.

I've just taken redundancy from being a Kitchen Porter, don't think I'd want to do that job again for another year in cold miserable England, even though its better pay more hours etc..

So spend your money on private hospital in Thailand! Good investment, and good doctors. Find a Army hospital, the best doctors and best surgery in the country. Have some few I know, who got good help for a decent price there. Not sure you can without being married? If not I would spent my money on my health first of all. Thats where your challenge is, and thats where you have to start to be happy and able to work, and make your future.

Chiropractor's, is of no use! A tempory wellbeing feeling at the best.

can't afford it, I need to save my money for a room, food, back up plan money if everything fails, I only have between 4000 to 5000 pounds, which is 6000 dollars or something. I will just have to live with it, many people around the world live with pain and discomforts.

  5. ok some good news, turns out all the supplements I was taking was making my urine 'cloggy ish' and that was why I was having these bad urinary frequencies and needing to squeeze it out, threw the supplements in the trash and now my pelvic issue is back to 'manageable to live with' so my mind can now be more positive and I don't want to die as much as I did before.

just to let people know, there are ways to travel very cheaply, without spending too much money.. first there is couchsurfing, where local people or expats offer to host you for 1 to 3 days, you sleep on their floor or couch or even a bed for free, its a great way to meet the locals and its all free, just create a profile and upload some pics of yourself, I've done it before in Bangkok. www.couchsurfing.com

staying in cheap hostels is another option

Volunteer work is another option, I can volunteer on a farm, at a school etc.. and most of the time I'll be given free accommodation and sometimes they give you a free meal. www.workaway.info

the key is too do what makes you happy, don't get me wrong, sitting on a bar stool, drinking an overpriced beer, and chatting to a prostitute, and looking at some ass makes me very happy, but traveling, feeling like I'm on an adventure, trying new foods, working out ways to not spend money, eating cheaply, new experiences etc make me very happy too.

A lot of negativity in here. As long as you aren't a complete abomination of a man, which is what most of the old boys here are like, then even without a degree you can still do okay. I know a few people here with no qualifications who are doing well and living a reasonable life in Bangkok.

It might not be luxurious and you certainly won't be living the dream in expensive places, but Bangkok is still easily livable on a low salary. I am a qualified primary school teacher so money certainly isn't a worry, but I can still comfortably live on a few thousand baht per week as long as I am not out on the beers, having expensive meals or playing golf. Yeah, you can't do that every week, but even then Thailand isn't just about partying and birds.

There are far too many foreign men here saying Bangkok isn't cheap, then they're the ones dropping 2000THB in the pub two or three nights a week.

Do a TEFL and you will find work, either here or definitely somewhere else in SE Asia. Give it a go and if it seems like things aren't going well just make sure you have money in a bank for a flight out.

thanks for your nice reply, I am not a party type of man, I think I would be happy if I had a simple small condo, street food in my belly, and a girlfriend. I don't own much, I'm not a shopper or materialistic. To be honest if I didn't have my pelvic issues then I'd be traveling rough, hitchhiking, sleeping in tents, eating cheaply, doing lots of volunteer work etc..yeah I do like a beer in the gogo bar or red light area's but that's on a holiday, working in Thailand is a different story.

TEFL or getting a working holiday visa for Australia is my options that I need to choose from, to be honest, it doesn't matter too much which one I choose I guess, either way I'll be working and earning money

Dude stop whining, you already have more than tons off other ppl out there!

Everyone has health problems, go see a doc and fix it, or get to a point it’s actually tolerable condition.

Being a native English speaker with good UK passport, getting a job is not that hard and if you get some extra like TEFL it be almost a piece of cake. Sure, maybe not in fancy places like Korea or Japan, sure, you might not be swimming in dough or pussy, but it’s bloody doable. And you said Thai makes you happy.

So unless you want a pity “pat pat” on your back, suck it up go see a doc and start looking for a job in Asia or back home.

everyone has a whine every now and then, don't act like you've never had a whine, people can whine if their suffering or feel hard done by

there I might go for a teaching english job, or work in Australia for a year doing kitchen jobs, those are my two best options.

  8. I had a co worker who has Sciatica, he said doctor can't do anything to cure it, if they can't cure Sciatica then highly doubtful they can cure my messed up pelvic area, of course I've already seen doctors about it, went private to see an Neuro and had MRI, waste of time and money, he gave me a crap mis diagnose and told me it would go away on its own eventually, didn't go back to see him again.

there's a reason why Chiropractor's are still in Business, because when it comes to bone/skeleton alignment issues, doctors just want to give pills or do surgery, physio waiting list is probably ridiculously long.

anyway we shouldn't discuss this issue here as this is not the health section of the forum

I can see why you worked as a kitchen porter.

Now, I certainly appreciate that the sky is the limit and that young people can do anything, but unless you have some job skills that  they need in SE Asia, or lots of money ( e.g. 1 million pounds +) your prospects are limited, very limited.

    Here are the types of jobs available for unskilled UK labour in SE Asia;

-Time share tout (might last 6 months)

    - Call center salesman (aka boiler room)

    - Toyboy/sexual companion. If you are capable of satisfying elderly people you may be able to attract the attention of someone. It will most likely be a  male, so you may wish to practice  satisfying the desires of men before you arrive, so that you will be  ready.

    - Adult films (Sporadic, but  2/3 roles would be for male targeted audiences. and you better have the anatomy for it too.)

    - Drug courier (This is illegal and has a high failure rate. The death penalty applies  in much of SE Asia if caught and even if leniency given, it could be 20+ years in a nasty prison, so it is recommended to avoid. Don't do drugs when in SE Asia. even if someone promises you  lots of dosh and easy women.)

    - Organ donor - Many elderly Europeans need  organs and  although a trade in organs is illegal, this has never stopped anyone in SE Asia from buying a kidney.

    - Thug and petty thief (Shortened life expectancy)

If I were you, I'd take the redundancy money,  put aside some money for rent and food for a few months and enroll is a government sponsored trade school. There are openings for the skilled trades such as electricians and plumbers. There is also a need for ambulance drivers, paramedics, orderlies and nursing assistants.

Get one of these jobs and you will make enough to visit SE Asia 2X or more  a year.

farang men and women can't sell sex in Thailand, because its illegal, only the Thais get away with it, I'd end up in Bangkok Hilton if I got caught selling my ass

Is the pelvic issue work-related? See a lawyer.

Physiotherapy only goes so far. You need surgery if it's major.

no I had a bad bicycle fall, landed on a stone/rock road going down hill, landed hard on the left side of Hip/pelvis, then months later had hard sex with a pattaya bar girl 3 times in one night and then my pelvic issues started, and yes I don't have an std. I believe the bike fall done something to my left side of my pelvis and the hard sex marathon was the nail in the coffin .. symptoms have been tingling on my perineum, painful or frequent urination, nerve pain in rectum or penis, muscle entrapment's in rectum, perineum pain, pubic area discomfort etc... luckily its not 24/7 but I haven't felt normal down in my pelvic area in almost 2 years now.

I just finished reading the whole thread. OP, you write well. Though you don't have a great job, at least you sound well-educated, which is the next best thing to being well-educated, which maybe you are. And you come across as a straight-up sort of fellow.

But you're in a lousy place because of having to move away soon and health problems. So, this is definitely not the frame of mind in which to plunge into a foreign adventure with no one to bail you out in case you break a leg (metaphorically speaking). I am assuming your parents won't be up for it.

I would suggest, along the lines of some above, to use your windfall money to find a place of your own in the UK. And get a specialized trade skill. Maybe computer repair, maybe sales, maybe pharmacist... There'll be something for sure. Immerse yourself in it, save, and - when you get to the point where the job pays well enough and it surely will - start vacationing here frequently.

And then I look forward to your next post, possibly 5, 10 or 20 years from now:

"Hi, this is Bonobojt again. Remember me? Well, thanks all for you advise. I turned my life around. Now, I've got $1,000,000 in the bank and rental income of $5,700/month and was wondering if you could suggest the best place in Thailand to buy a 4-bedroom house with a pool and a view."

    Good luck!

thanks for your positive outlook on this but right now I seriously want to die, this pelvic issue is giving me urinary symptoms that are frustrating to live with, think I'll have to see a doc about this as I might end up killing myself in England  and not Thailand

I think you should address your mental health issues first.

    See your GP

so they can force pills down me with nasty side effects ? that will look great on my CV, please employ me but just to let you know I am messed up in the head, need to take anti depressants to stop me from escaping this life.. no thank you

I have no choice, I have to leave my parents place by the end of this summer, parents want me gone, I've got nothing here, no friends, I'm not handsome or successful enough for british girls, and I have a pelvic issue that's ruined everything for me, mentally also. bad posture and Tinnitus also make me think whats the point anymore.

I'm currently thinking to myself about whether I should go to a doctor again one last time to try and fix this pelvic issue but I think I wont bother, there's only 2 scenario's from this, I'll need physiotherapy or surgery, surgery would put me out of work for a long time, physio is a long waiting list and I think you have to pay for most of it nowadays and who knows if it will even work.

I'm very delusional, I keep thinking or wanting to do all these cool fun things like backpack, hitchhike, ride a bicycle through a country, couchsurf, work abroad, do some volunteer work, but I can't, this pelvic issue makes me need to pee too often, makes me depressed or feel low, makes me give bad energy/vibes to others,  no one wants to be around a guy like me.

i can't believe that I am going to agree with you.   But you know,  I was just about to post something VERY similar to what you suggest.    Just hope that pussy doesn't make all his plans go out the door (like so many

    before him)

whenever I go on holiday to Bangkok, I do seem to have an addiction to staying around Nana and going to soi 4 and people watching at a Hillary Bar and at night going to Nana Plaza and looking at all the ass and popping over to see the ass at Soi Cowboy, but that's a holiday, this will be different and I should be able to control myself if I do decide to step on that plane..

if I can't control myself and do have a bad addiction or mental health issues then you might be seeing me on Farang Deaths . com

We past one western looking up in the sky with a funny grin on his face, and  a thai language poster in his hand, telling Im travelling the world without money, would you like to help me. This was outside Terminal 21, and I have no idea how it works out with permits etc, but my guess it is illegal.

Annoying and made me angry, and I just wonder how do they dare to do so.

Again, du you have a good plan for insurance? The most important thing with your plan, is a good insurance.

yes that annoys me too, I saw a couple (man and woman) begging with a sign in Silom by the BTS station, I would never beg for money, in fact I would never let my situation get like that, I'd rather go home or end my life than be begging on the streets of Thailand.

as for insurance, I haven't thought much about it yet, if I got a job somewhere I would definitely look into it, if I went to Australia I would sign up for the free health care.

  15. 20 minutes ago, Hummin said:

What about insurance? Have you been thinking about that?

Camera is cheep these days for social media quality, but do you have the personlaity and editing skills to make it interesting? Also computer skills even you can do it on an ipad, but my best guess is a proper editing computer and software is needed if you want to make a living out of it. A huge + is also a drone to make an overview look at the destinations you visit. The easiest would to be a bar monger, and share whatever comes up of people, but still not easy to make it intersting, and not another dull sex addict sharing his type of fun.

It is hard work, and you have to be on time, or time your releases to keep the crowd intrested.

I got addicted 19 years old after travelling 4 months in USA, and almost jumped on the train, with the rest of the people who stayed illegal there, but found out I had to go home, do my duty (army), go school, and make money for my next trip. I never regret that.

Have fun, spend your money, but have an escape plan and go home be somehting and do something with your life. Make yourselves proud. Good luck

my personality is more of a quiet, man of few words type of guy, I can't talk to a camera with confidence and ease, I tried it before and it felt very awkward.

there are some Thailand youtube channels like Bangkok 112 that don't talk or show his face, just film the bar/hooker scenes (easier said than done). He must of had some photography skills before he started because videos are very well made.

then there is a youtube channel called Cheap Charlie Chronicles, he basically went to thailand with a cheap camera and 4 or 5 thousand dollars and made Pattaya videos for a year and now he has a successful channel and income, although he did overstay and get banned from Thailand for a year, he's now in the philippines making videos.

I only have an average windows 10 laptop and an Iphone SE. I guess it would be a little interesting to watch a guy on youtube go to thailand with not much money to try and live out there, I'm sure it would be some peoples attention, but if I don't have the personality, confidence and passion to make videos then it wont work out well for me.

OK, no problem, just as I was typing my response, it, and the OP, started to sound familiar.

You may feel like you're in a dead end life there.  Lots of people in the same boat.  I'm not from the UK but fundamentally, you ought to have more potential opportunities there than here.  Unless you are a very dynamic person, like Dan Cheeseman. ?   Don't piss your redundancy money away on beer and chicks in Thailand.  Use it to get yourself sorted with something else, stick with it and in a year's time, you may find your outlook has changed for the better.    Then come here and piss some money away on beer and chicks.

I've met/know guys here who came young, fell into the teaching jobs, making a living wage month to month, maybe collect a wife and a couple kids along the way.  All the sudden they woke up and they're 45 years old, not much money tucked away, and they feel stuck.   Now, granted, the very same thing can (and does) happen back home.

Think it over some more and don't reject advice because it's not the advice you want to hear right now.

In the end, your call, of course.  Good luck either way.///

of course we don't know what the world will be like when I'm in my 60s or 70s which is 40-50 years from now, the retirement age might change, maybe another financial bank crisis, another war, fishless oceans, overpopulation issues, the bees are dying, the migrant crisis in Europe etc.. its hard for young people to trust our governments, maybe I'll lose all my pension money because of a financial crisis

then there is A.I  technology that is getting more intelligent, machines are taking our jobs etc..

so I kind of want to do what makes me happy before the world gets even more messed up and insane rather than working a 9 till 5 job to pay the bills and the highlight of my life is jerking off to women shaking their ass on webcam and treating myself to a Chinese takeway

so your saying your in Thailand right now and your not happy or suicidal ?

No offense to anyone who did it differently, but I'm tadump dee dump old school I guess.  Nose to the grind stone in the younger years, exploit your best earning years and THEN, when you've got some financial security, start chilling out.

By all means, take holidays, do some traveling, etc., but don't lose sight of the long game.  Turning 50 is unfathomable, and then next thing you know..... poof!  Try to arrive there in the best financial shape you can.  It won't buy you happiness, of course, but it does give you flexibility and options.

Endeth the sermon.  Enjoy your trip, good luck.

Edit:  As I was reading the OP, occurred to me this same story has been posted here before.  I specifically remember the kitchen porter occupation.  And I think I had the same kind of "sermon" comments.   Hmmm.

I did post about asking if I could get a job in Thailand without a degree and may of mentioned my Kitchen Porter job, this is me asking about any work in general in any SEasian country and I've actually left my job and taken redundancy and booked a one way ticket to Bangkok, not trolling, just want some advice/tips.

Look, stay in the UK,there is no life here. perk yourself up,you need a future. There are jobs there, just look for them, Virgin Rail ,fire service now no good, but prison service, good pension, just stay there, you will top yourself eventually here, more and more expats are moving out of Thailand, for many reasons, just stay there

yes you have a point, due to some personal issues I have, I have sometimes thought I would top myself over there if things didn't turn out well, I mean how hard would it be to have to go back to your parents in your country as a failure with no job and money, my relationship with my parents isn't that great, they want me to move out because its just the culture here in England to leave your parents home at my age.

I've read stories about homeless farangs in Thailand, or Cambodia or the Philippines, etc..

I am having some doubts about this plan of mine, and I did apply for another Kitchen job yesterday actually due to my doubts, but I am just a lot more happier when I'm in southeast asia, its crazy how happy I feel over there compared to here in England, I can't even enjoy the summer here because of my dam hayfever.

  20. I'm 26 years old, based in the UK, due to some changes at work I was offered Voluntary Redundancy, it was just a Kitchen Porter job I'd been doing for 7 years, due to the fact I was not too happy there anymore and I feel less happy living in England due to lack of social life, sex and crap weather, I decided to take the redundancy and try to start a new life in Southeast Asia, I've booked a flight to Bangkok in late August, I think I'll have between £4000 to £5000 pound.

I say Southeast Asia and not Thailand as I'm aware my chances of getting a job in Thailand are slim these days due to the fact I have no University Degree, even though I love Thailand and feel very happy there, I am happy to live and work in other SEA countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, etc..

other things that have crossed my mind is starting a youtube channel about SEasia and Thailand, making videos etc.. and trying to make money through YouTube but I think thats very hard these days as there's so many people doing it already and you need expensive camera equipment to get the best footage.

another idea is to get the Working Holiday Visa in Australia and work there for a year, and then do some traveling.

this is my idea, any advice/tips ?
