  1. The biggest and most noticeable differences between the Captiva & the likes of the Fortuna and the Trailblazer is the suspension and the brakes. The latter two are built on pick- up chassis that means crap rear suspension and only have drums on the rear brakes. The Captiva rides and handles as a proper SUV should. Yes it's expensive, but you pay for what you get. I've had an LTZ AWD for 4 years now, bought new. Properly serviced at the correct intervals and has never given me a second's problems. The TC diesel ( only 2 liters) is responsive and fast. I've had mine doing close to 200 klicks and could still hear that missed cord on Stairway to Heaven on the supplied hifi. The GPS works like dream. Had it off-road up by the Loa border with no problems at all. Personally however I would have liked a bigger more powerful petrol engine, but at the time of purchase the top of the range model only came as a diesel. I anticipate keeping it for a few years more.

Wrong Trailblazer has disc rear brakes. Also explain what you mean by crap rear suspension?

  2. Forgot to mention that my old thai-number (registered to Kasikorn) is not in use anymore. Is it possible to get OTP via email? It doesnt sound very secure though but need to keep it in mind if this sms-mess gets too complicated.

Normally OTP are valid for like 5 minute's I don't know if they will send OTP via e-mail just try and see. If all else fails call them they have english speakers.

  3. So there's no way to change OTP phone number overseas? I cancelled my trip to Bangkok because of political situation and now wondering do I need to book new flights just to get my internet bank working. I like security as well but my life gets difficult if showing face in my own Kasikorn branch is only way to do this.

I changed my e-mail address via e-mail with Kasikorn you just need to make sure old address is still working before changing to new. It could be same with OTP phone number they would send OTP code to old number then you apply that to new number to activate. It's just a thought give it a try.

  4. At the incident the officer found the corpse of an unknown female foreigner, she was slim with white skin and long blond hair approximately 165-170 cm tall, aged approximately 25-30 she was found with no ID. Nearby was a red-black Yamaha Meo motorbike, license number KHOR KOR YOR 991 Surat Thani, which belonged to deceased.

    A small point -

If they do not know who she was, how do they know it was her mc?

Why oh why so many stupit question's if you are a DoctorG get your thinking cap on.

  5. I'm not opposed to a decent conspiracy theory myself from time to time, they're entertaining and can be fun. The problem is of course is that they are contagious and people become addicted to them, if allowed to they will take over all the rationale and before long people start seeing little green men peering at them out of every window. Case in point is some posters in this thread who believe that the political unrest in Bangkok will result in us all having our bank accounts seized and we'll all go bust. I mean really, where did that notion come from, is there a grain of truth based on fact anywhere in the story or is it merely another irrational and improbable fear that has been verbalized, hmm, 'tis the latter for sure.

As for our great grandchildren, they'll be just fine, they will have adapted to events and circumstances between now and then, it's us with our history of having got used to the status quo that wouldn't be fine if we were to live for another 100 years.

It's some of the posters on here that believe in WWWrestling and the Walking dead that need a wake up call. Sorry to say some could be Americans going by there constant referral to American bank's. Why not just keep to Thai related.

  7. Blockades south of BKK if you read the news section...

Lamai Tesco last Saturday, had better selection than Chawang, ... that may have changed by now... wink.png

Thanks Jimmy, if OP had a link I would not have to hunt everywhere. Now it look's like have to fill the car's with fuel and stock up on my breakfast cereals

  8. Our electricity bill averages at 2150 THB per month. I'm not sure if that's normal.

We (2 ppl) live in a 80 sqm apartment, we only use the air con in one bedroom and only at night. The stereo and 2 comps is basically on all day and sometimes the fan.

Since we'll be moving to a larger villa in a couple of months I'm fearing high costs for electricity. We've been offered a monthly rental price with electricity included that is 5K higher than without. Does it sound like a reasonable deal? biggrin.png

Good deal if you are running about 5 air-conditioners.

  9. I have an Android, Samsung. Using Wifi and 'use sensor aiding' in addition to GPS in cities improves fixes and precision. The tall buildings can easily interfere with the GPS signal and Bangkok is difficult enough as it is. I don't use this outside of Bangkok. I do know what my phone looks like when I have wifi or internet turned up or not. I don't have internet on my phone because I haven't paid for an internet plan for months.

When I press the navigation button on my phone it asks me if I want to go to location settings. I do, and press enable GPS. It asks me if I want to use wifi and sensor aiding but as I say, I only do this when leaving the toll road in Bangkok. These three apps empty the battery quickly, and both using and charging at the same time can lead to your phone shutting down due to overheating. That's why I only use the GPS app where possible.

After reading all this it seem's a waste of time using the phone when doing a 8 hour trip. better just spend 3,900bt on a hand held Garmin with reliable Thai maps installed in English.

  10. If I got the diesel would definately consider deleting the dpf, only issue would be the need to remap would this require new sensors or would a engine remap likely suffice? Not sure if aftermarket shops will offer this service, shame all the thai ones come with the dpf considering the lack of a MOT which apparently is a visual test anyways so could just bore out the filter and weld it back up for appearennces. Notable improvements to both performance and fuel economy from 2 mates with maz6s and no regen lights or limp mode.

Backlash over Mazda CX-5 diesel oil issues

    http://smh.drive.com.au/motor-news/backlash-over-mazda-cx5-diesel-oil-issues-20120821-24k6w.html

seems like the problem highlighted in this article from august of last year has yet to be corrected, May be endemic to the dpf if other newer cleaner diesels also suffer similar problems, perhaps keep things as is while under warrantee and delete the dpf is the only way to correct the problem. my concern be where to realign sensors and remap following the removal of the dpf. Shame the cx5s imported into thailand with less stringent emession laws have been fitted with a dpf

I was told by mazda australia it was due to an increase in crankcase oil but this makes no sense its due to increase in diesel oil. this is a concern because diesel oil is not designed to lube pistons, rods, crankshafts and engine internals. This would be the same as benzin in engine oil with of course no lube properties. This problem is being downplayed and will negatively impact the engine in time. Checkin oil levels and frequent oil changes is a huge ask for drivers which wont prevent the eventual premature engine wear

You have all the information about this vehicle and it's the same you have ordered so if you go ahead it's on your head.

  11. Ok signed up for cat fiber optic today but they said i need to buy my own wifi router they will but there own box in and then connect my wifi router to it.bit cant find anywhere on samui that sells a fiber optic wifi box!any one know?

As far as I know you will need router that also has Wifi because if you only have router you will have to connect to computer to the router with cable. So if you have Wifi router then you connect all with Wifi..
