  1. OMG.  I'm Canadian.  I was shocked when I read your query.  It's unimaginable to me that you'd face anything but a warm welcome from Cdn immigration considering that you've been legally married for so many years.  Yes, as another said, Canada welcomes any person who can make it to the border, whose completely undocumented and peniless but here you are having to struggle.  I'll say a prayer for you and your loved ones tonight.  Best of luck.

It crossed my mind, but have never tried to move more than the allowed amount in cash. Into the US, I think it's $10 or $15K, but not sure about Spain. Regardless, I'm sure it will be less than what I need to xfer. Have you ever tried to transport more than the allowed amount via declaration? I'm not sure what that entails.

No countries restrict the amount of cash you bring in.  Most though require that you declare it

  3. Nothing to do with security but, buy a cover for it.  A month or two unattended even under a roof lets dust creep into all the nooks and crannies.  UV, even if it's indirect over time is murder on plastic and paint.  I keep mine 2017 Honda under wraps and it looks brand new barring a couple of scrapes.  Someone else mentioned having it started once a month if possible.  As a 40 year veteran in the airplane fixing business I can say that's another really good idea.  Cheers.

  4. I agree that rural Tland is where the big problem is.  I'm happy to report that Phan Thong where I live is absolutely spotless.  It's a rare occasion to see litter on the streets.  However there are many vacant industrial sites that are the polar opposite.  Uggg!

  5. Almost time to renew my health insurance in support of another year extension on my retirement visa.  Last year I picked up a policy, a throw away policy from LMG Insurance.  I believe it was B7000 and had a B200,000 deductible.  Anyway, I recently read a list of current approved insurance providers and didn't see LMG on the list.  Does anybody know who has the lowest premiums for a 65 year old, in good health who's only interested in the barest coverage and hence the lowest premium.

  6. If you are really nervous, stick to the relatively undeveloped east side.  Good road surface, little traffic and the only steep parts are near the end of the road, before the war memorial.  There are some really top shelf resorts on that side and rooms are inexpensive, many under 1000B.  You'll be missing the hustle and bustle of the west side but for me, the quiet is appreciated.  Quite a few good restaurants but you'll need some local knowledge to find some of them.  Enjoy your trip!

Have to use a friend's number in Canada for TD bank security. They don't accept Thai number.

You might want to check back with your bank from time to time.  CIBC, Investors Edge at one time said they would not allow the use of anything Thai for the security codes, etc.  I think that all the overseas expats put up such a stink about it that they relented.  My security codes are sent via text message on my Thai cell #.  They policy that they abandoned would have required me to have a Cdn cell #.   Absurd!!!

  8. I'm preparing to move from Pattaya to Phan Thong.  Researching what I must do to inform Immigration I understand that form TM28 is history, no longer in use and that I need to report my new residence on form TM27.  I that correct.

Further, on one legal firms website, the presenter claims, reading directly from the Immigration website, that those of us here on Non Resident O-A Retirement are exempt from needing to file the TM27.  That would mean that the landlord filing TM30 is the only way Thai Immigration will know where I live.  If anyone can clarify, it would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

  9. Octane rating is a measure of a fuels resistance to detonation.  Once ignited the fuel air charge is meant to burn smoothly and evenly with the flame front starting at the spark and consuming the fuel/air charge in a smooth manner.  Detonation can occur when fuel of a lower octane rating than the engine manufacturer specifies is used.  Generally the higher the compression ratio the engine has, the higher the octane rating is required.  Having said that, detonation can occur for other reasons too.  Detonation is where the fuel/air charge detonates like a bomb does rather than burning smoothly and evenly.  I have personally observed the damage that can result from detonation which often results in a hole being burned all the way through the piston crown or the piston shattering into tiny pieces.   Both are rather ugly.

  10. Well, if OP went there 60 days after they could careless as that is not the rule.
    It is 90 days.
That being said I just did mine and no receipt.
I guess if a person is worried they can take a photo of the IO smiling holding up your updated bank book. [emoji846]

To add, my conversation with several IO's in different provinces confirm they are aware of the 90 day rule, but no actual immigration policy on how to handle it at their offices.  So, it is what it is at Jomtien.

My mistake. Thank you for pointing it out. It was 90 days.
