Biggest waste of time and money..... Thailand doesn't need submarines just toys and skimming for the elite commanders.

A small ray of hope for tourists and others to have a tipple with their lunch... but only a small glimmer.

Covid made time tough for many... now they are clawing back every baht they can get to pay-off debt or keep up with rising costs.. Locals end up paying inflated prices... inflation hurts everyone.

Maybe the duty free prices were just too much.... but then again aren't they always located airside in departures, or does Thailand also have arrivals duty free shops? Not sure how closing them will spread tourists money more widely? They've already bought what they want during the holiday at cheaper outlets. Not sure how the Thai suppliers to duty free shops will take this loss in revenue?

Thais screwing themselves, farmers all say they are selling at all time lows, the supplies have all increased in price due to middle men, the restaurants have all jacked up prices, the customers now vote with their feet.

It's all Thailands got going for it. Mass tourism and the sex trade.

I thought the post stated these gates are based in departure areas? Not arrivals So passengers would have already been processed at the check-in desk, prior to going through immigration to the departure area airside.?

Only if the condo sale prices are hiked up for foreigners. If they are sold at normal market prices then it won't matter who buys them, foreigners or locals.

Why not all passengers irrelevant of nationality.

If a customer looks like becoming over-served the bar staff/manager should stop serving them. But of course we know that doesn't happen. Same as weed shops should not serve anyone walking in with money instead of a prescription.
