  1. Change your Baht now. Things are only going to get worse as the ramifications of Brexit become manifest.

Don't change yet, sterling is on the up and up as the world realises that Britain is not only open for business, but, one of the most capitalist friendly countries in Europe (geographically).

    Hope that helps,
    Yours Truly,
    Boris.

Eee bye eck, what a to do.
    Is there any hope Boris?

  2. Hi

Me and my family live up in the jungle so trapping and hunting are key to our survival, we catch and eat just about anything that moves. 2 weeks ago we lost a young buffalo calf, still born so we ate it along with the after birth, you can't get fresher than that. I still have the skin along with 2 rat skins loads of fish skulls including a giant snake head that would look well nailed in to a length wood with a brass name tag at the side. We have a pile of duck and chicken feathers and a 3 foot pile of snail shells. If you would like any of these items to add to your collection of dead animal parts please pm me....I have a family of chipmunks at the back of the house rare now in thailand and I'll catch one if you like then chop its tail off so you can make a key ring out of it then pull its claws out with a pair of pliers.

Around my area the standard labour cost asked is  1000Bht per  each 3 metre span between posts at a height average of 2 > 2.2 metres. And  most are not built well because the  foundation is rarely  put below all surrounding ground. So if you  backfill to level or raise there is a high probability it will gradually leach under to the neighbours. The posts are usually set on soil and not tied or incorporated into the foundation or set deep enough. It  might seem extreme but the posts should  be set into  original soil at adepth  not less than  25 % of the  eventual finished height from the  foundation and set on and surrounded with concrete. On sloping ground  ties set underground as part of the foundation are a wise idea if  all backfilling is likely to add  pressure.

I have  had about 75 metres of wall built under  my supervision and refused the 1000bht. Instead I paid workers  350 Bht per day.

The  75 metres cost me 178000 in total . And that included a continuous steel rod set  along  evry  3rd row of blocks passing through  each post.  Each 3rd row  of blocks wth the  steel rod was set upside down and  fully filled  with  concrete including the  top row.

A truck  could   hit that wall and it is unlikely  to fall down .

But.... I regret  building a wall  now. The near ground air flow is  massively reduced and  now I would consider a  partial  wall with steel  hexagonal mesh inserts.

Best luck to you  for  your outcome.

Probably the best post on this thread yet, a tall wall around one rai will trap the heat in and reflect the sun and burn your arse off, buy a gun.

It is not that much easy to teach football without a proper idea about the game. First of all you should teach them to handle the balls and provide a overall idea. Then everything become get easy for them. Better to choose the small ground for teaching at the first time. So that they can get the idea very well. Many of the people spend their holiday in Thailand. They know it is the best place for enjoying their Thailand holidays. Be cool and feel free to tell anything to your members.

    Come again.

  5. Hi

I am teaching my oldest lad and 5 of his buddies to play football, that would be soccer to the American members. I got them a couple of goal posts knocked up at the bottom of the garden and I'm thinking of taking on a few more kid's to teach and make a full team to compete against other teams if their are any around but firstly would this be illegal and has anyone ever done this kind of thing? We have a kick about 3 times a week now and the boys are coming on well, please your thoughts, advice and anyone who knows of kid's local football please post.

    Thanks in advance, Hutch.

The 40 meter retaining portion of our wall has 2 inch PVC through the wall at ground level every few meters. The outside also has what I would call outriggers poured into the foundation in several places and are at the outside ground level in several places. They are now covered with dirt and cannot be seen. I wouldn't want cowboys building a wall for me. The approximately 40 meter wall the I previously mentioned looked well built but the foundation was way too shallow and narrow. When the wall fell over, It all went down in one piece.

250.000 for a wall that's cracking and you wouldn't want cowboys building your wall? What a hoot.

I think the 250,000 baht estimate for 100 meters is far closer than your 47,000 baht MONTHLY labor estimate. How do you come up with a monthly labor estimate? I don't remember the cost of our materials but the material was far more expensive than the labor. A year or so ago, I saw about a forty meter wall built with cheap labor fall over. You get what you pay for. My friends here were making bets about how long the wall would stand up. The first hard rain, the whole wall fell over.  My "expensive" built wall is still standing. It has a few cracks but not many. The 40 meter retaining portion has no cracks. If you knew my Thai wife, you would know for sure that she doesn't pay more than a reasonable rate. One post that quoted 35,000 baht would NOT pay for the material.

simple 4 people to build our wall cost 100.000 around 60.000 for materials and 40.000 to pay the workers as it took them a little under a month if you paid 250.000 you should have paid the 60.000 the same for materials and 190.000 for the workers say if you had 4 and it took a little under a month. If you like I can break everything down further about the price of posts, blocks, cement, sand etc. 250.000 baht for 100m you have been swizzled.

100 meters x 2 meters high with foundation and cement blocks ,plastered 2 sides that will cost you at least THB 250.000

At 250.000 you would be paying 4 workers about 47.000 each per month we pay ours 10.000 per month you are getting skanked...... the materials came in at around 55.000 the rebar we bought from  a company that makes the tall posts for electric and so on and I forget the price now. Ours was built by the father in law and his team for 100.000 when his team have no work they work making the small posts and blocks so knows the price, if you pay more your getting done over if you can get it for less you have done well but at a price of 35.000 that works out at 109 baht per sqm is totaly impossible.

1 rai is 1600m2 or 40x40m . This means 160m of total length.

If standard breeze blocks , they are 40 by 20cm , so per m2 you need 12.5 blocks + cement .

Every few meters you need a concrete pole , they normaly cost between 500 and 1000 baht a piece ( depending on lenght and  width of it ) . As foundation , normally you would use a trench between the poles in which you make/pour reinforced concrete . , Normally you do the same on top of the wall but it can be saved out ( wouldn't save out on a 2m high one ). For finishing you can do nothing at all , just painting 1 or 2 sided , cement coating 1 or 2 sided , covering it with sandstone , tiles , etc etc ... what your desire and price .

Now , This is the basic wall , when the land inside is much higher then the land at the outside of the wall ( depending on how much , length of wall etc etc )  , then you need a complete different style ( read , much more expensive ) foundation since the pressure the ground puts on the existing wall .

500 to 1000 baht per post is way too much, one post 2.3m tall is 120 baht from our local builders merchants and that was 2 days ago as I had them delivered.

If you want cheap, I'd look at Japanese copies from Tokai, Greco, Bacchus, Edwards...  Lots and lots of really good LPs available under $1,000.   I was told about a Thai guitar forum that's quite active but I forgot the name.  I've also imported lots of guitars from Japanese sites like Ishibashi.  You end up paying 10%+7% in duties and VAT, but you get a much bigger selection and the total price is still very good if you shop around a bit.

Why piano music, is it not the same as for any instrument?

You have your staff, the five lines e g b d f, and the four spaces f a c e, your sharps and flats.

one sharp G, two sharps A etc, the same for any instrument.

That's what I was thinking, been a while now for me reading music and playing instruments but i never noticed any difference between tool's.

Now i have some spare time on my hand's this will lead me to my next thread.
