Hi
I'm not planning on coming until 2007, but are at present re-decorating the 2 house we own in the UK to sell in the next few months. I am not sure if I can risk selling everything in the UK if things are a bit unclear re visas. I am unsure at the moment what to do. I'm ok I qualify for the retirement/long stay but if my husband cannot get the dependents, I don't think that he qualifies for any of the others

Hi
I have just read the following on a differant thread. I am totally confused
News from the new regulation:
This is coming from the Chief of Immigration.
1.Retirement Visa extension. If you have a foreign married spouse who is a dependent they will be able to get this dependent visa now. ( change of what has been happing the last couple weeks)
Does this mean that my husband will be eligible for the Dependants visa?
If so is the regulation likely to change again before we arrive in 2007?
Thanks

Thanks, Sunbelt. Guess we'll need to wait for further details from Immigration closer to the date.News from the new regulation:

I am still unclear as to what this means after October 1. Will the foreign spouse need to have an extra 800,000 baht deposited in a Thai account from overseas (or equivalent monthly income) or will the requirement be for only one amount of 800,000 baht per couple?
As of now only 800,000 Baht per couple.( This was the requirement before)

Hi
I am totally confused after all the info I have been reading over the past few days regarding the Dependant Visa. I thought that this was being abolished after October the 1st? I am planning on retiring to Thailand in 2007, I qualify for the Long stay/retirement visa, my husband is 5 years younger. We will have sufficient funds to live in Thailand comfortably. Will he qualify for the Dependants Visa? I need to know before we sell property that we own in UK
Thanks

Hi
I am planning on moving to Thailand in 2007 with my husband. We are both English. I am 50 years old and female, I do not have a problem with the visa I will need to apply for.
My husband is 45 in December and I am getting conflicting advice from differant sources on which visa he will require. He obviously needs a visa which will allow him to stay in Thailand for the same length of time that I can. He does not intend to work and we have enough funds to live in Thailand comfortably for as long as is possible.
I believe they have changed the rules re visa runs, but if possible we did not want to go down this route. Can anyone please suggest anything?
Many Thanks
It will have to be based on business, investment or education. A dependent ( piggyback) on your retirement visa is out now in BKK.
Sorry I don't understand what a dependent ( piggyback) on your retirement visa is out now in BKK means

My grandparents are coming to coming to Thailand in December, and I'm trying to figure out the best place to accomodate them during the time that they will spend in Bangkok. They are experienced travelers, in their early 70's, and very healthy.
I'm trying to find a decent and clean hotel in the 1400-1500 THB per night average cost, in Sukhumvit, Silom or similar area that will offer a good range of restaurants and facilities within easy walking distance to support / entertain them during the days that I will have to be at work.
Current shortlist (in no particular order, but in the right price range) includes;
Best Western Elegance Hotel
Trinity Silom Hotel
Manhattan Hotel
Royal Asia Paradise Hotel
Manhattan Hotel
Classic Place Hotel
Century Park Hotel
Ambassador Hotel
Grand Mercure Park Royal Hotel
Royal Benja Hotel
Tower Inn Hotel
Ariston Hotel
Somerset Hotel
Asia Hotel
If anyone has anyone has any experience (good or bad) with any of these places, or can recommend others that fit the bill in terms of cost and location, I'd like to hear about it!
Also, I'd like to take them to Ko Samed. Unfortunately, my favorite place to stay on Sai Kaew beach has just built a huge noisy nightclub. If anyone can recommend a place in Samed that fits the 1500 / night budget, I'd like to hear about that too.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
I stayed at the Sofitel Silom recently and found it to be an excellent hotel. Good location, friendly staff, very clean. We got a really good deal with http://www.airline-network.co.uk. Don't know if this is out of the price range.

Note that not all CNX-BKK flights are on an AB6. Some are small 734, but there's a couple of flights on a 777 (and occasionally 747). Check thaiair.com to see which flights are 777.
Hi
Thanks for that info. I have had a look at the Thai Airways website and they do use 773,734 and 333, there is also a flight every Friday which leaves BKK at 1525 hours, it is in the scheduling up to July 2007. I have been in contact with Thai Airways and I am wating for a reply.

Hi
Thai Airways in UK say there is no way around the height restriction, but I know a family who took a dog on the Bangkok - Chiang Mai route 3 weeks ago and the carrier/crate was only fractionally smaller than the one my dog needs. I think I shall make some more enquiries.
-
I flew a Pyrenean Mountain Dog into CNX a few years ago. Somewhat larger than a shepherd.
We got around the height restriction by lying the crate on its side for the BKK-CNX leg. A short time, it did the dog no harm to have to lie down gor that leg of the journey.

Hi
I have spoken to Thai Airways and apparantly they use AB6 on the route. His carrier would be to large to go through the cargo door something to do with the cross section? Ah well back to the drawing board
Might be worth checking with Bangkok Airways. They operate BKK to C. Mai and they may still be using the ATR 72 (prop) on this route.
The forward part of the cabin is for baggage and cargo as there is no hold. It has a large cargo door which might allow your container to fit.
Hi
Thanks I will get in touch with them. It would seem that Thai Airways keep changing the rules. I know a women who has moved to Chiang Mai 3 weeks ago from the USA and her dog carrier was at least 10 in over the restricted height. They have told me the only place that they can fly him out of Bangkok to is Phuket

Hi
Has anyone had experience in bringing a large dog to Chiang Mai. I have a German Shepherd who is to large for the IATA pet carriers which are on the market, so I am going to have one made. The problem is that his carrier will be too large for Thai Airways to transport from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on a AB6. We are ok on the UK - Bangkok leg. They have height and width restrictions. I have sent emails to 6 other airlines who fly the route but have had no answer as yet.

If you search this forum you'll find quite a bit of info on bringing dogs into Thailand and frankly, for a two week visit, I think the hassle isn't worth it.
Also, there is the stress of the long flight here and then back as well as the trauma of adjusting to a new place and a new climate. Also, remember dogs are territorial and would be stressed being taken out of their territory.
Honestly, don't do it. If you love your dogs (and it sounds like you do, very much) leave them at home with a caretaker you trust. They'll be happier and healthier and it would probably be cheaper anyway.
Thank you for your reply, and thank you for telling me about info on this forum. The truth is, that
we are new users and haven´t really found out yet about this place. But I´ve looked just for a bit, and can see there is quite a lot of info. However we would still very much hear from someone who has tried it themselfes.
I hope you are not going to give them something to make them sleep. Sedatives suppress the respiratory system of the dog and aircraft are pressurised at between two thirds and three quarters of normal atmospheric pressure, this lowers the blood pressure of both humans and animals. Sedatives generally work by lowering blood pressure so the combined effect could be detrimental to the well being of your pet. It can also cause disorientation. Several airlines will not
accept your pet if they are sedated
You see... our vet (and I have asked more than one) said it shouldn´t be a problem with the trip for the dogs - honestly nobody have mentioned stress. Probably because they are going to get pills to calm them down (so that they will sleep during most of the trip - they love travelling, for example by car... they just go to sleep as soon as the car starts - they love it!) Also from what I´ve checked is that it shouldn´t be hassle at all. They can come with us in the cabin in a special bag and they can stay there during the flight. It doesn´t hardly cost anything extra so... right now - for now anyway - it doesn´t sound like hassle.
What I really would love to hear is someone who has seen how their dog or dogs react. I am very glad that you take the time to answer this question and let us hear your opinion. Thank you for that. Still I would very very very very much hear from someone who has tried it. I still hope more will look at this and answer.
And yes, we love our dogs. We cannot have children, so they are really honestly our kids... and therefore we´d love to bring them with us. I honestly don´t think we´ll go if they cannot come with us. That is why I´d like to hear peoples experiences - someone who has tried it themselves, or know someone who has tried it.
Thank you again

Hi
We are relocating to Thailand in early 2007 and we are bringing our German Shepherd Marco with us.The problem that I have is that I cannot find an IATA approved carrier large enough for him, although the exra large size is supposed to be suitable for Great Danes etc.
The biggest I can find is 48x32x35. He is 49 inches from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail and weighs approx 84lbs.
Has anyone who has travelled with a large dog from UK got any ides where I can get one from? I have done the usual searches on Google etc but to no avail.
Thanks :(Check a company called Dogtainers at heathrow, very professional, have cases in all sizes Nignoy

I believe that if your spouse can get a one year Non-Immigrant O visa or extension, then he need not travel out of Thailand every 90 days. See Non-Immigrant Visa "O-A" (Long stay) - visa for retired persons, IV. Recommendations for the aliens while staying in the Kingdom and Notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days.
Thank you. I am getting totally confused as some info on different sites seem to contredict each other

I am wondering if anyone has any information about the above visa. My husband is not eligible for a Non–Immigrant Visa Category “O-A” (Long Stay) because of his age. I will be coming to Thailand with the O-A visa.
I have read on the Thai Consulate website that my husband will have to apply for the Non–Immigrant “O” does this mean he will have to travel out of Thailand every 90 days?

Hi
We will be arriving at Chiang Mai airport with our pet dog who is coming as excess baggage in the cargo hold. Does anyone know where we will pick him up from? Also what happens when we do?

Hello
Does anyone know of a good vet in Chiang Rai
Thanks
Probaly you would be better of posting this in the Chiang Rai forum. I would say, I for sure know the vet which is 98% the best vet in Chiang Rai. The owner, petdoctor, if you like, is one the most fluent people in english I have ever met in Thailand. He often travels to Chiang Mai, because his expertise is requested there. All prices are the same whether you are farang or thai. Good taking care of pet your pet.
Here is how to find it. You come from the king mengrai on the super highway and drive north towards mai sai. The first traffic light (before the big bridge) you turn right. This is a T-junction. A few meters down that road and on your right is probably the best vet in Chiang Rai.
The vet is also a 24 hour open hispital and they can also make operations if needed.
Kind Regards
Potter
Hi
Thanks for that

Dependant Relatives Visa
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
Hi
I am still slightly confused regarding the Dependant Relatives Visa. The other day I read that it was being abolished and now I have read on another thread:
‘Retirement Visa extension. If you have a foreign married spouse who is a dependent they will be able to get this dependent visa. ( change of what has been happing the last couple weeks in Bangkok)’ From the Chief Immigration Officer
We are hoping to come to Thailand in 2007, I meet the criteria for the Long stay/retiree visa. My husband is 45 years old, does not intend to work or run a business. We have sufficient funds to live on comfortably. We were going to apply for a Non Immigration Visa type O in the UK (90 days) and extend once in Thailand.
1. If they are still available, would he qualify?
2. Would the extension be for 12 months?
3. Would it be renewable every 12 months
4. What is the procedure for obtaining this visa?
Thanks
