Renewed my Thai DL 12 months ago. Top name in English and block capitals. Name below also in English, not block capitals.

Unlike my previous DL, surname first in both instances. When I queried this was told, "New format".

Where did you renew it? Did you use a pink ID card for ID and yellow book for your address?

Have you got your citizen ID number or passport number printed on you DL?

Does your license have your name in Thai (top half) and English (bottom half) the same as Thais have, or English for both, the same as most westerners ?.

On my old licence top half in Thai, bottom half in English, the same as for my Thai wife.

Theres a new format/layout on my new licence. One central section:

    Name in Thai

    name in English

    DOB in Thai

    DOB in English

    Thai/English ID number

Again the same layout as for a Thai National with a 'recently' renewed licence

  3. This is amazing. A pink ID card. Many foreigners on here are interpreting the wording on a simple Thai document, written in Thai, and all are coming up with a different translation/interpretation of the actual intended meaning.

Are these the same people who continually whinge and complain on this forum because some IO's in some Immigration offices in different parts of Thailand use a slightly different translations/interpretations when translating Immigration rules, written in Thai then translated into English??????????????????

  4. With the new rules meaning the 800k must stay in the bank for 5-6 months and 400k remaining for the rest of the year, the monthly income option suddenly becomes more attractive to many posting on here.

It will be interesting to see just how many people decide to keep the 800k in their pockets to spend as and when they wish and choose the monthly income option for their extension in the next year or so as the new rules and reality bed in.

The agent business is Booming - As Planned By Immigration - due to the rule changes.   The agents are immigration's partners, after all.

You regularly make these comments without showing any actual proof that this is true/accurate.

Can you provide some genuine proof to back up your claims occasionally please??

Changing policy and then claiming years or decades of precedent were just "a loophole" is simply a dishonest claim by immigration officials.

You mean like people making up fictitious incomes for years when declaring their income on affidavits was also a 'loophole' and an acceptable practice? Or using corrupt agents to generate a fictitious 800k bank balance they haven't got was also an 'acceptable' loophole?????

There are such examples on this forum posted quite often. If you haven't seen them I am not searching for them for you. Two examples I recall were actually both female IOs, one at an airport, another involved in marriage extensions at a major office. If it comes to that, I thought some of BJs actions could have been construed that way too.

    According to Google:

    Symptoms of Xenophobia
    • anxiety.
    • shortness of breath.
    • panic attacks.
    • trembling or shaking.
    • sweating.
    • nausea.
    • accelerated heart rate.

I haven't seen any IO's with these symptoms, male or female. At least, not at Jomtien, Si Racha or at the Airports and the border. Seen plenty who get frustrated at an expat's inability to provide the correct paperwork though. ????????

So does your UK state Pension go straight from GOV.UK Pensions to your Transfer wise account?

All three of my pensions are paid into my UK bank account, one calendar monthly and two four weekly, then I transfer as much as I need using TW, when I want to send it. This way I can keep some of my pension in the UK, as and when I need to. If my pensions were all paid directly into TW it would all have to be sent to my Bangkok bank each month. For each transfer, I first tell TW how much I want to transfer, then transfer it from my UK bank. As I said, it literally takes less than thirty seconds to send the money to TW using the bank phone app so its no hassle.

What is your point mate? Skrill who I use to bring in large amounts now and then do the same thing but none of these are used by Gov.UK Pensions

Even if you pay into a UK bank then transfer it's surely not going to be worth the hassle plus it would take longer to arrive as your due date is your due date.

My point is simply that, using Transferwise is much more flexible, we get a (slightly?) better rate than you, we know exactly what rate we are getting before we complete the transfer, we can transfer the money any day of the month we want to because we don't have to wait until the 4th of the month for a better rate (I can't believe that's actually true??), we can be totally flexible on the amount we want to send each time and we get our money within 24 hours because our 'due date' is any day of the month we choose to send it.

Lastly, 'the hassle' of sending money from my UK bank to Transferwise literally takes less than thirty seconds using my bank's phone app. No hassle at all.

    But, each to his own.

Through curiosity I checked and The Bangkok Bank says on the 22/3 the IT rate was 40.65 I got 41.30

But we get more than the published Bangkok Bank rate when using Transferwise. You chose a good date for comparison because on the 22nd March I transferred two of my pensions using Transferwise and got 41.6834. I transferred it via the phone app at 7:40 am (Thailand time) and it was in my Bangkok Bank account at 2:30 pm the same day, a total transfer time of six hours and fifty minutes. Plus I was told the exchange rate before completing the transfer so I knew exactly what I was going to receive. The fee on £1000 was £6.81 from TW, no fees from the Bangkok Bank.

I tried using skype to my bank in the UK. The guy on the other end complained bitterly that it was a bad line and couldn't hear me. I need to communicate with the DWP without arousing any suspicions that I'm in Thailand. When I did call them, they obviously had the CLI facility as they knew which number I was calling from without me telling them. If I called from a Thai number I would be worried that he could see on his display that I was calling from a Thai number.

I've almost never had a problem with the quality on skype (except when sitting too far away from the built-in mike). On the odd occasion, when I have had a bad connection I have offered to redial but the bank(?) has phoned me back instead, using my Skype UK number.

Last year friend died in the UK and, as executor, I have had to complete his requests in his will. That has included dealing with the Probate office, transferring three different bank accounts, his house, car and two private pensions to his Thai wife and changing various utilities and other commitments etc. I've made well in excess of 50 phone calls in that time, all from Thailand and all 'official type' calls using Skype. I haven't any problems at all.

I also contacted DWP regarding my state pension when I was about to reach 65 about four years ago using Skype without any problems.

You can have your UK Skype number shown to the receiver as coming from the UK or withheld, it's your choice.

Gov.uk  send our payments automatically on the 4th to Citibank because they get the best possible rates through them. Then it takes 15 days to get to us due to the massive amount of cases they handle.

It would be interesting to compare what rates you actually get with the rate we get when transferring using Transferwise on the 4th of the month. Are you actually informed of the rate you get on the 4th? I not on the 4th, when are you told?

Was given no other option than call an 0800 number. Can't be done from abroad.

You definitely can dial an 0800 (and 0300 etc) number from Thailand. I do it all the time using Skype. I pay for a Skype UK phone number and use that. When selecting the dial pad to make a call +44' comes up to start and I just miss the first '0' and add '800*******'. I don't know about any other dialling options/format but it definitely works using Skype.

  13. Several years ago I had to return to the UK for a medical every year as part of an ill-health pension so used to get a multi non O visa each time I went back then returned to stay in Thailand each year using those. On two occasions my medical appointment was earlier in the year so there was still a couple of months remaining on the existing non O. The Thai Consulate in Birmingham would simply write cancelled on the existing visa and issue a new one from that date.

I did ask if my unused months could be added to the new non O but the laugh itself that I got said no.???? I actually knew the guy at the consulate as well.????

The evidence mentioned is the proof of income you show such as bank transfers now or proof of income from you embassy. It does not mean the source of income.

Ubonjoe, I know there is a document stating Immigration can request proof of the source of income, it's been in effect for quite a long time and this has been discussed on this forum more than once in the past. I haven't got my hard drive containing all the various documents with me at the moment.

Maybe, with your extensive library and knowledge, you could locate the information I 'm talking about please.

  15. Although very rarely asked for in the past, Immigration has always had the power to ask for proof of the source of an applicants income. If they suspect an applicants income document is suspect Immigration can ask for proof of its original source.

This may not be the latest copy of the requirements but the option to be asked to supply further evidence is still in force.
