I assume this prosecution will be lead by the "Department of Future Crimes" in association with the "Thought Police".

I honestly thought at one time I would like to visit Thailand as a tourist and maybe rent a motorbike and ride all over the country, however stories such as this have made me think again.  How can there be a government that operates like this?

"... the advertisement might cause misunderstanding and might encourage legal or moral violations which might lead to cultural degradation in defiance of Cosmetics Act B.E. 2558 which carries one-year jailterm and/or a fine of 100,000 baht."

Why would anyone want to visit a country where your life is in the hands of a government official who may imprison you today because he just F-N feels like it?  Wonder what it costs and who one must pay to get out of a mess like that.  (Sigh...)

  2. It is just a matter of time before the "pet" cobras some people keep here in the southern U.S. get out and run amok and then we will have the same tragedies reported here.  The southern state of Florida is already over-run with pythons, anacondas, and boa constrictors none of which are native snakes.  Imagine, deadly, venomous, and highly aggressive cobras invading the lovely green lawns and backyards of once quiet and safe residential neighborhoods.  No more going barefoot or leaving the garage door cracked.

And what about the Clinics....just look inside when passing ....packed to the rafters, with enough shoes outside to open 20 shops.

PS....Back home (Western Europe) there is about a 4 or 5 year waiting list to get a bed in a hospital to have a procedure done?

    .

In the USA, patients who clamor for "ObamaCare" would wet their pants if they knew how "socialized medicine" worked in real life.  The combination of available (for a price) insurance and greed keep the cost of care at nosebleed levels.  There is simply nothing to keep the price down, no competition, no regular market forces, nothing.

Well, you've obviously got your own example there, to start with.

We assume that people will behave as they do (or, I suspect, used to) in The West: recruited, trained, performing, promoted, performing, rewarded etc. And no doubt there are some like that here but I suspect they are hard to find. My observation is of young people with no such interest & certainly no loyalty to the organisation that recruits them & trains them.

One young female acquaintance in BKK several years ago (early 30s) changed jobs as often as she changed her mobile number ("for good luck") - about once every 2 months. And I have other similar examples. In my own family a BIL with a steady job as manager of a garage has just (literally) walked away from it to return to the farm/village with his wife & kids & (now) no visible means of support - didn't even say farewell & thanks to his rich boss who has looked after him for many years & to whom he owes (as to many others) some considerable funds ... Building a large Western-style house in the provinces over the last 18 months was an education (for me): Little pride in their work, 40% OK is OK, constant demands for more money to do the job, just disappear when the going gets tough - and that wasn't just the workers, that was the bosses.

As my partner says: "Thai people want to be rich but they don't want to work for it."

My examples are anecdotal but there would be many 'Western' businessmen with similar experiences: Never pay your staff in advance because they just disappear - always keep the wages in arrears; different concepts of 'service'  & of time. And on & on.

Thank you so much for your answer and insight.  It explains a great deal.  I could not live like that.  I myself have always been terrified of not having a roof over my head.

Thais have been getting wealthier to be able to afford highly processed, denatured, Western food. Obesity is the outward manifestation, all the health issues will follow into the later years, which of course will be a boon to the food industries partners in crime, the pharmaceutical industry.

And all the while pharmaceutical puppets, AKA doctors, will happily advise that all is fine and just take another pill. Still to this day westerners are in denial as to the cause of the pervasive diseases that afflict them, despite those following a healthy lifestyle avoiding them. I think I am the only one of my school friends that hasn't been operated on and also on long term medication, yet they think I am the nutter, ah well.

You are so right.  Americans are being stuffed like farm animals on their way to slaughter.  USA is one big farming operation where each cow is milked to the last drop from cradle to grave.

Any number of possibilities but it's not hard to think of a few: Too hard to get started (corruption). Too hard to get staff (education & attitude). Too hard to train staff (education & attitude). Too hard to import trained staff & management (government & attitude). Poor infrastructure (transport, digital ...).

But come back in 20 years & they (or their successors) will be here.

Please tell me more about this.  I work for a company with a global presence and I have a Thailand pen-pal who I know well enough now that I thought he would be a good fit at my company's Bangkok headquarters.  Despite encouraging him to apply, this man only wants to operate his business as a street vendor selling Japanese crepes.  It boggles my mind because my company could offer a lot in terms of decent wages and benefits plus a "real future".  Is this the "education and attitude" issue you speak of...???  I really want to know so please advise and Thank You So Much for your thoughts.

Thailand  has met its match...blacks can out arrogant, out jai yen ,out lie, out sleeze,,out deal drugs, and out pimp thai males, in a heart beat...opps that's racist..sawadee no crap

Thailand will be sorry.  Just wait until a fight breaks out over religious beliefs.  Can you say, "Sharia Law"?  It is probably already too late.  Should have turned them back at the border or put them on a ship or a plane back to Africa.  And no, I have no sympathy for "people looking for a better life" because they are not coming to become Thai or to make a better life.  They are coming to live off of the wealth of Thailand and they will bring everything that is wrong with their own society with them from Africa to Thailand.  Where I live in a small city there is gunfire and dead bodies every night from rival drug lords and their gangs who operate in the west end of town.  The problem is insolvable and has been going on for decades.  Nothing has stopped the murder and mayhem in the community.  Thai police and government officials should think:  "Every time a Thai official takes a bribe another piece of Thailand gets sold out to thugs and thieves."  (Sigh...)

One thing more though....... When you do see Thai guys they are most often not exposing their pee-stream to public view (like this guy)......... It is into bushes or behind cars, Not pointing at general public (or in view of youngsters)......... If this guy can't hold his beer (normally causing this problem) then shouldn't drink so much when you know you will be in traffic......... He may get wiser as he 'grows-up..........

You can tell the Young guys from us 'old bucks' who give a bit of thought to 'Our bladders'............ LOL.........

You are so right.  I think you got right to the root of this issue.  I had written a comment trying to give the guy a break but you are so right I will try to take back what I said.

So he had to pee, and he looked drunk and in a motorway so where else could he go?

and to everyone who is saying it is disgusting, do you let your dog piss in the street? On the road? In the park? When you've got to go  you've just got to go

    no harm done

And what about the immigrants, recently in Thailand, selling trinkets along the beaches who piss anywhere they stand?  There is a difference between them and someone trapped in jammed up traffic.  It may have been uncouth but it beats having wet underwear.

funny, I see thai men doing it often and no one bitches let alone takes pics, maybe they are simply jealous of the size seeing thai men are supposed to have smaller ones than westerners

I have seen a lot of Asean men in my day and I can assure you that Thai men are not only beautiful but also very well equipped and have quite the stamina.  I would rather be locked in the tender embrace of a Thai man than a "Westerner" any day of the week.

    Hallelujah !
You see it all the time sadly. Everyone knows more than everyone else. Of course all they know is what’s written on here on many cases and often by bigots from one view point or the other.
As always the truth is somewhere in the middle but they cant admit that else they would lose TVface (and they talk about Thais losing face haha ) and bicker on regardless determined to have the final say about nothing.

Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Please help me out here.  Is "losing face" really that big a deal...???  What is losing face that it is taken so seriously?  I have learned over the years not to get bent out of shape over what people think.  Do not get me wrong, I enjoy being liked and appreciated but after a certain point I would just as soon tell people who are not happy with me to go and stuff themselves.  But here, this seems different like a major social taboo that could invite revenge with murderous intent.  What is it equivalent to?  Is it like someone kicking your dog, slapping your children, or sleeping with your wife...???  Thanks in advance.

So it's interesting to watch the Pattaya marriage office?   If you see a cute one you can ask if she has sisters.

Why are these guys getting married???

"Why are these guys getting married???"

While many may be satisfied to sit in a lonely apartment and look out the window, I sincerely believe these men are not ready to give up and die:  "What the heck, let's have one more go at it, what is there to lose at this point in life anyway?"

If u saw the women from Kentucky you would understand....Mississippi the same. Whoa....good yingluck mate

Well you know that most of us wear shoes now so I see that as a plus+.  And we no longer let our children run naked through the yard.  Of course, in the winter it is sometimes more comfortable to invite all the dogs into the bed to help keep warm.  And I do have most of my teeth.

  14. "Kentucky is a brutal place for Thai girls.  It snows a lot in the winter, and there are very few Thai people or Thai food.   She will have to be tough to stick it out, and learn English fast."

Yes, I live in Kentucky and the winters are often miserable.  It does not snow that much but about every eight to ten years we get either tons of snow or ice-storms like the dickens with power outages, frozen water &c.  The rest of the time the weather in winter rides the fence between wet and slushy or icy and cold.  January and February are the worst months for miserable cold and icy-wet weather.  Along about March things begin to improve.  I live in a small town (pop 25,000+) and we do have a Thai restaurant so there must be Thai people in the area.  Asian restaurants are very popular but it is mostly the Americanized version of "Chinese food" served in them.  Louisville is only 40 miles away accessible by six-lane interstate highway so there may be more Thai people there.  I think she may like it but the number one thing here is that really good jobs are hard to find and it costs a lot to live.  I have no doubts that she will be lonely from being 12,000 miles from home.  I think she is very brave.  Louisville also has two Buddhist temples (I just remembered...) so she may find friends there.  We do have Asian grocery stores here so she may also find some familiar foods here, too.

I sure wish the best for them.  I hope she is as tough as nails because coming here might take some getting used to.  On the positive side the weather is a bit better here in summer than I hear it is in Thailand.  Air conditioning is very common even in small homes and apartments.  Local water is clean and plentiful.  And outdoors in the summer humidity and temps run a little on the high side (not too much but still we have had temps in the 90's F all summer.

Wish them the best of luck...

Islamophobia is yet a another instance of religious racism which is encouraged by government policy that is discriminatory, poor education and fear - those pointing fingers at muslims need to be reminded that next year people could be pointing their fingers at you

A history lessons about the rise of fascism in Germany in the thirties should be compulsory for those up in arms about a mosque being built

One can argue all day long about xenophobia, racism, &c. but all that is needed is to look at the past and see how Islam has spread and the methods it has used to accomplish.  Fourteen hundred years of gradual and successful conquest cannot be denied.

Well, I know some people will groan, but in my view it is religious majorities in various countries that are more of a risk than religious minorities.

So it is more than OK to condemn oppression of non-Muslims in Saudi Arabia (or even Muslim oppression of other Muslims), genocide of Muslim Rohingya in mostly Buddhist Myanmar,  extremist Christian motivated right wing terrorism in the USA, the occupation of the west bank by the Jewish state of Israel, etc.

But Muslims when they are a minority really do get an unfair bad rap.

Moving against them too harshly only fuels more of them to get involved with radical violent dogmas.

It doesn't have to be that way in Thailand.

I suggest the Thai government get involved in an early educational requirement to teach peaceful coexistence and tolerance of different religions and races to very young children. That's a good start anyway.

From what I have seen, there is no "peaceful existence" with Islam.  Islam brings trouble everywhere it goes.  If not right away it will eventually.  Its "mission" is submission to it.
