  1. Right - I have agreed to continue this subject no more after some messaging from a mod.

(Cheaply paid and expert on all things Thai).

This is a money making enterprise and whilst various people offer advice and indeed advertise their sales on this forum )see as below

First they came for the Communists,

    and I didn’t speak up,

    because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,

    and I didn’t speak up,

    because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,

    and I didn’t speak up,

    because I was a Protestant.

    Then they came for me,

and by that time there was no one

left to speak up for me.

    by Rev. Martin Niemoller, 1945

    Not talk - die.

Well, topic ended in the interest of the money makers and screw you if you thought that was a 'help' forum about Thailand.

  2. Thailand can do whatever they want, it's their country. The OP speaks as if this is the USA

    OP speaks "Land of the Free".(Thailand) Thai constitution paragraph 1,2, 3, 4, 5 , 6, 7 etc.

    Pip-Pip.

    P.S. No- not a U.S. personage. :o

  3. Please note that the Board Rules have been updated as follows:

Due to current censorship by Thai Authorities, we do not allow discussions of proxies or other methods of bypassing government blocking of websites.

The Thaivisa.com Board Rules and guidelines can be found here.

And of course with all those lawyers who utilise Thaivisa to tout their businesses not one of them will be arguing the point of censorship and freedom of speech :o

Are we to believe that discussion is no longer allowed within this forum except that of a formal declaration that paradise does exist, and, that it only exists subject to ministerial pronouncement?.

Errmm.....is this site hosted in Thailand or elsewhere?.

Indeed, are we not told frequently that Thailand means, "Land of the Free".?.

Free, my arse - get the owners in the pocket and they WILL agree to anything.

Oh- the big question ;Why does "The Land of The Free" require censorship?.

Who is hiding what and why?. :D

  4. a great story with a good ending. brings a tear to the eyes of this exile.

and well done the people of shetland , but shame on the immigration dept as who , as usual, never get anything right. wanting to kick out the good'uns whilst allowing the bad'uns to stay.

Thats the difference between the UK and Thailand, If this had been a case about a farang in Thailand it would have just been 'SEE YA'.

would be interesting to see if a thai village would organise a campaign of support for a long staying falang who was being deported for some minor infraction of the rules.

Yes tax, my point exactly. Good on the islanders for supporting him, it shows that people realy can integrate and become a real part of the fabric of a comunity in the UK, unfortunitly in Thailand i dont think you can, even if you have been here most your life speak, read and write Thai etc etc you will still be on the outside.

We have been following this quite closely within Scotland and indeed, time served is time served, and that restituction to society has been served.

The guy was found (and admitted) willful fire raising which in itself is a very serious offence.

Being drunk is no defence at all under Scots law.

However, there is a consideration by the Crown case which lends to the fact the he is not in possession of a U.K. passport and that a Thai passport being valid for a 5 year period thus his leave to stay is transfered between renewed passports obtained from the Thai Embassy in London.

At the Immigration hearing the question will surely be asked , that, if living in Shetland for 13 years why has he not applied for U.K. passport? and what are his motives for not doing so?.

As this is a Thai based forum we get continual farts from people who say, " Do not overstay...Be leagal...ect..ect..." This guy got 13 years of community and legal support (free) to rationalise his right to abode.

His Sister and Mother who both live in U.K. have passports and are U.K. citizens.

Let us wait what the Sheriff has to say.

  5. :o

Police Sergeant Somchai Wisetsingh, who was named Outstanding policeman of the year several times in Kanchanaburi by the River Kwai in Thailand

How can a river name him policeman of the year?

Easy -TIT. Judging by the fact that if he had been any other than a very "monied or influential personage " then what he did would have been two cases of premeditated murder and we know what that means.............

The fact he went on the lam for a while before the deal was done and now - well, cannot apear in court as he is so 'influential' that he may mobilise a SWAT team to free him from the court bus - it would seem apparent to anyone that if he wants a river to say he is the Kan Cop of The Year, then fair enough.

And why not?. After all, old King Canute did his thing, Prince Charles talks to trees, and I often hear voices saying "It's all true, it's all true you know........". :D

  6. :o

Killer police officer loses jail appeal

Wisetsingh's failure to appear has fuelled rumours that he has been secretly released.

But Judge Dilok Bultaweenun said Somchai had not been brought to court because of concerns he would try to escape

    ------------------

    :D

WHAT??? If he's hancuffed, shackled, guarded he's going to try and escape?

That indeed is a very valid point - we have seen countless times how people are encased in leg shackles / chains, handcuffed, and are surrounded by armed prison staff and MIB whilst being led into court.

May be different if you are a fisher person from Samui or a Farang with a drugs charge.

As an interested onlooker how would he propose to escape without the assistance of those supposed to be in charge of his appearance?.

The Consulate wants to be kicking up all hel_l about this one.............

Justice must be seen to be done and "in absentia sentencing", must mean that - absent.

    Why?. :D

  7. Guns Don't Kill People...

...It's those little bullets they fire that do

To be honest, a pair of hands with the correct motivation can be so, so more violent.

The military use guns - it's part of the job, but pussies who cannot or will not have faith in their own ability to take care of their home, wife, family, whatever - well, sorry ; They are not men.

It all comes down to where do you draw the line and it has happened so often in the USA that a person has knocked at a door asking for help and has been shot dead.

Ridiculous, stupid and such a waste.

One is enough. Two is too much.

Guns are very profitable, the advertising is aimed (no pun intended) at guys who have insecurities and feel powerless - I am in the military supply business and refuse to even talk to any person who sees a weapon as a means of protection for anything they hold dear.

The chances of someone murdering you are remote compared to the risks we take for granted in a normal life, so why wish to carry a gun ?.

  8. Does anyone know if telescopic spring stell batons are availabe locally and from where? Also, is pepper spray available here. BTW I once inquired about importing a shotgun I have overeas to here. I merely needed to fill out a form and get a letter from my local police commander giving approval. I have a friend who is a retired Air Forse general and he says the importing is no big deal. I never pursued it because a) I wasn't really sure I wanted a gun here, and b ) just being able to import it does not ensure one can register it, which I never really checked out.

    You are joking....please?.

So you put a shotgun in airfreight from wherever you are from- get it through security checks and with no export documentation then arrive at the freight shed at Don Muang to pick up a shotgun?.

    No questions asked?.

Never ever forget that Thailand has more Air Force Generals that is has aircraft - ask around, your local tuk-tuk driver is probably a retired major. (domo).

And naturally, the local plods are just going to give you a letter saying it is quite o.k. for "Mr X" having this shooter........

Save yourself a whole load of hassle - forget it!.

  9. Another couple I know/knew were firearms instructors for Ramkhamhaeng and Thammasat universities. Again, all of these folks have PR OR citizenship (surely you don't believe their are laws that prevent westerners with Thai citizenship.... that is, they are THAI, from owning firearms?).

    :o

Well, there we go - a point clarified. PR or right to Abode ; Heng, if a foreigner with this right within Thailand is not allowed to VOTE for five years following their PR can you point out to me where it says in Thai law that ANY ALIEN MAY OWN a firearm regardless of the time spent in country and in what recourse they may apply for the permit to own one, the clasification of the firearm, and the zone in which it may be carried, and the zones through which it may be carried in a non armed state?.

We are remembering that we are speaking legalities here, aren't we?.

Guns don't kill people - idiots who want guns do.

If you choose to do your homework you will find that the laws regarding "Aliens" and guns are restrictive and probably have good cause to be so judging by some people who seem only able to resolve a dispute by resort to guns.

It is a point of note that those who mostly advocate gun use are those who have never seen the results of them or have had to use them.

  10. That is so gross . . . . or are you talking transvestite cops?

No, I am talking about how they in a childish manner will run around the office showing them, the women being 'shocked' and the men like little boys. They will have passed 100 hands before they are put back in the package and they return to the not "sanuk-sanuk" playing around.

So true, so very true. No names, no pack drill, but I have seen this happen.

Not with anyone's undies but presents opened then displayed in such a juvenile fashion

that the person addressed to would no doubt bin them ; If they knew.

And all sorts of stuff is quietly ignored, never opened or even given a second glance.

Who was it said the 'Land of grown up children' ?.

  11. You'll need permanent residency first. Tourists can't buy guns legally here.

    :o

Actually foreigners cannot own a gun full stop -

Actually I know more than a few foreigners with their por 4 gun registrations in their own name.

    :D

Are these 'foreigners' of Chinese extraction?.

    Just a fair question - if that's o.k..

Now - Thai law is very, very specific who gets to own guns. Whilst there is a fantastic amount of unaccounted for weaponry floating around Thailand and that is the way it is - I would very much doubt that you know any foreigner that has possesion of a firearm legally in Thailand.

Should said foreigner ever have a problem with an ex mental wife, business conflict, whatever and the MIB turn up - will they be able to prove under the law that they as a foreign national have legal entitlement to that firearm and who granted it?.

    I suspect not, big time.

It is exceedingly difficult for a Thai to obtain a firearms permit and whilst there are many ways to obtain them illegally, we are speaking here about what is legal and not.

Goodness sakes, get across the border and buy an AK for 50 bucks - so and what?.

But if you feel that you are so unsafe in Thailand that you need a gun, perchance best that you re-locate to a place with big walls.

On the other hand, I feel that if the MIB find a farang in possesion of a hand gun (or indeed any gun) they are liable to enjoy the security of high walls for a long time. :D

  12. You'll need permanent residency first. Tourists can't buy guns legally here.

    :D

Actually foreigners cannot own a gun full stop - in Thai law the regulations regarding who can own a hand gun are dependant on a number of factors : One thing that I note amongst the supposed experts who fail to actually ask is that firemarms licences granted to an individual within Thailand are zoned.

i.e. your permit to carry a weapon is based upon specific geographical limits.

Land protection, safe guarding of premises, and the goodie - 'foreign intrusion'.

To the chappie who has a problem with a group of youths throwing beer bottles at him, could I be so insolent ask to why this happens and why to him?.

    1. does this happen to any other person in the immediate locale?.

    2. Has he tried talking to them?.

A Mac-10, Kalashnikov, M-16 or .45 ain't going to make you feel safer mate - buy a friendly dog with big teeth that knows where it gets fed.........welcome to Thailand.

    :o

  13. Can you speak Thai?.

Once past immigration and customs at Don Muang do you ever have to resort to English?.

No, not high falutin' AUA Thai nor bar type Thai.

Can you get where you want to go, get yourself a room and buy food in Thai however basic?,

Can you get a bus or a train to where you want to go and arriving at your destination communicate enough Thai to get you to whatever you want to do or be wherever you want to be?.

If you can do any of the above - you can speak Thai a lot better than most foreigners in LOS.

The more you try, the more you learn.

    Pip-Pip.

  14. Sorry 'bout the Celtic peasant nuclear power station back to planet earth night witch vegan eatin' technonolgy is wrong burn effigies at the stake ---------but use a computer and international dial up to make a point?.

Surely runes cast in sand before one's tread would be quicker?.

On the assumption that one has a belief of course.

    Why is Thailand so backward?.

Ask a bloody Thai : They will if asked be honest and tell you : GREED.

    O.K. -back on topic.

It's all going to crash and burn in about three months.........again.

    GREED.

  15. Celtic peasant?. :D What, a like a Druid or something?. :o What is a Celtic peasant?.

Probably just a strange way of saying he ran a small-holding, or, croft in either Wales, or, Scotland.

    Sounds like an ex-back-to-the-earth hippy.

Hmmm...but like vegan milk being sacrificed to the moon god or summat?.

Deny the impurities of nuclear fusion by working amongst the unclean?.

(Chairman Mao did say to be a minnow amongst big fish).

Kinda reminds me of that movie the 'Wicker Man' and that was in the Outer Hebrides.

Being Scots, and my brother being married to a "Coast Wester"...perchance the chap is a Druid

    technology terrorist.

However, there is always an answer to any problem : In Oxord City there are and have been a bunch of people protesting about medical research on animals.

    Said person may join them ;

But here lies the paradox - were he a small holder in Wales or Grannies Heilan' Hame in Scotland he would slaughter his own animals for food.

After all, the winters are long, wet, and cold.

I suppose we could live with T.B. if no animals got hurt..........Not.

We eat them - where is the problem?. :D

  16. In my thirties, I had a decade as a celtic peasant, but had to work 40 hours a week as a nuclear reacctor controller to fund it. (Because peasantry in the UK is now negatively profitable as it has no infrastructure left---the

Celtic peasant?. :D What, a like a Druid or something?. :o What is a Celtic peasant?.

Should peasants be allowed to work in Nuclear Power sites?.

Should peasants be allowed to work with reactor control technology?.

    Dr. Strangelove...where are thee?.

Are you proud to call yourself a peasant?. (Adopt Communism 'brother' - you might like it!).

Me, I like being an 'Engineer'.

P.S. I have my worries about an engineer in reactor control who can't use a spell check :D

  17. I'm with GaryA , Plus, Octaviousbp and Siripen on this one...

    Contentment, happiness, Jai yen.

If it ain't broke...Do you need to fix it?

The oldest known civilisation on Earth (Ban Chiang)

When the other metal working civilisations were making weapons and slaughtering each other

(read war, expansionism, instability) [/b] Ban Chiang culture has only yielded tools, advanced water irrigation and copious amounts if rice strains.

Beautiful, balanced designed artifacts created for carrying, cooking their yield.

13th century "Thailand" adopted Buddhism as a philosophy/religion.

I still see ALL of this lineage in EVERYTHING i look at...

Whether it be a Wat, a cut bamboo support. Someones' face when presented with a significant problem.

I love the SYNERGY of Thailand.

    I got out of advertising.

Why? Because it takes so many people where they don't want to go.

    Television, the same.

    WHY IS THAILAND LAGGING BEHIND?

Why are you running for the bus...Betty swallocks

...when Thailand waits for the one coming down the road.

    etc, etc...

Methinks that yourself might have a look at the ".Ladybird Book of Anthropology"

Tsk...tsk....surely as migrants they brought the skills from A.N. Other Place?.

Why is Thailand lagging behind?. Easy:

    GREED.

    Pure and simple. Full stop.

Get it in the short term and screw any future or even any concept of a future.

I could say, 'look at the trees and deforestation with the result of land erosion, I could say the pollutants shoved into the water supply for umpteen years, I could say that the people who have always made the most money out of the narcotics trade.....within Thailand....are whoops!.

    Thai people.

    Greed. Full stop.

    Pip-Pip.

  18. why do people still come to pattaya . i read this forum and everybody seems so negative, are you hiding a good thing or do you really dislike it :D

    Isn't that TizMe's avatar ?

In any event. It really sucks in Pattaya. Everyone should go somewhere else, like Phuket or Chang Mai. Too much crime, overflowing sewers, garbage everywhere, rats the size of small children, drunken hooligan tourists in every bar, drivers that see pedestrians as legal targets. :o

Yep, sucks here. Tell all your friends to go elsewhere. Ignore the estimated 5.3 million tourists that visited Pattaya last year alone. According to some, 5.299999 million of those were just here for cheap sex. One tourist didn't come here for sex, but ended up getting some anyways (way to go granny !) :D

Well, I guess I should head out to the bars now and look for sex. The g/f will castrate me afterwards, and the rest of the "clan" here will probably toss me out in the street afterwards for cheating on the g/f. But hey, that's what we are all here for isn't it ? (according to some) :D

KerryD is correct, Do not come to Pattaya. It's not safe any more, and most of the girls that have come to Pattaya to work in the industry have hiv.

    Barry

Tis' me - sorry for the absence. Work intrudes from time to time.

My apologies for winding up those who can be wound up - listen to some R&B sometimes.

    It helps.

Ah- to the chap who suggested that I had been burned by some wench in (three hail Mary and blessed are the believers). Pattaya.

Sorry, guv. Wrong. My ex missus reckoned that the B-52's out of U-Tapao all those years ago could well have been rerouted to start an urban redevelopment project.

    And she is Thai.

The chap who admits he quotes things out of context?.

Quite how does one prove an argument by admitting that one is delivering statements that are outwith the context as previously written?.

Hang on - I'll get to the library and find the Ladybird book of "Stalin's book of quotes.".

And especially to the chap who says I need help: Heh-heh-heh.

Have a look around you. It could be me buying you that beer one day.

    Pip-Pip. :D

  19. Baby Pilot Rules 1 of many:-

    1. Fuel required to arrive at destination from point of departure.

    2. At destination 45 minutes holding fuel.

    3. Fuel required for 45 minute flight to diversion airport.

    4. Diversions planned per route for application on route.

    5. Hence little need for 3 & 4.

I would doubt very, very much that an airline such as BA would ever be involved in a fuel crisis on a long held route (operated by Quantas) as reported in the People.

Indeed, the route would involve using more fuel to get to Phuket than actually being in the hold at BKK for 20 mins with a diversion to Singapore if it was a weather thing.

    (CAT 1- 2-3).

And who ever accused the People of allowing the facts to get in the way of a good story?.

  20. Hi Mobi,

Your assertion that ...the majority of retired 'gentlemen' are not in Pattaya out of any interest in Thailand, and ... these chaps that I speak of have had considerable difficulties in forming any long term relationships with women..., and even....The seafood is much better in Hoi Lot

is clearly based on thoroughly researched and well documented scientific evidence. [/color]

[/b] The seafood and people are carefully researched over a goodly number of years as resident for nine years (not in Pattaya) and still continuing with about six months a year in country.

Having been lucky enough to work in a lot of countries over the years one does tend to observe one's own race in foreign surroundings and not always with any pride.

Indeed, this is applicable to any person from any race.

I do hope it wasn't based on a few no-hopers you met back in England and a few drunken nights in Pattaya,, which you can barely remember, and during which were probably ripped off by 'tarts' you regard which such disdain.

Nope - you are for sure barking up the wrong tree here. If I bump into someone who has enjoyed a two week tenure in 'Patters' in the U.K., then I can usually be found heading away at a vast rate of knots. Heard it all a zillion times. It's boring.

If the shrink started his thesis with you, he'd have so much material to work on, I doubt he'd bother to make it over here.

Why can I not have a female shrink?. Fair is fair after all.

Or are professional jobs verboten to females?.

  21. christ i mixed up the colour scheme on that reply :D

Never mind - rose tinted specs are great!.

Na- I've never been ripped off by a tart in Pattaya. Had an argument over a game of pool once with one.

AND the seafood is much better and cheaper in Hoi Lot - try it, you'll be surprised.

Alas, there is nothing in English language and no menus but you'll get by.

    Sheltered life?. Heh-heh-heh. Not.

I just don't get the point of seeing women as a commodity.

I also don't see the point in giving any of my money to what is at the end of the day no more than a playground for (a lot) of people who cannot accept that they are ageing.

Death and taxes.....death and taxes...... :o

  22. Is that supposed to be the start of a Thai forum thing? How many people wear FUR here?

It's not PEOPLE. Thais eat anything that is contained within fur. So where does the fur end up?.

Surely it gets made into something?.

Know a publishers daughter in BKK who when dressing to impress wears an imported dead fox around her neck. Doesn't half look daft.
