  1. I just wanted to give this topic a bump because maybe more people follow this part of the forum now and I didn't receive an answer to my original post previously. Just hoping someone can give me a definitive answer. It's not particularly relevant to me in my current situation but it's just arming myself with information for a fallback position.
  2. As others as mentioned it's a complete mind field. But there is currently recommendations from the board of taxation looking to put forward new legislation to simplify the question of tax residency. I'm not sure of the exact stage it's at but here is a article talking more about it. https://www.mondaq.com/australia/income-tax/1109524/proposed-changes-to-the-tax-residency-provisions-for-individuals-explained From mine I'm more interested in maintaining my tax residency. Which I'm hoping like that that has already been suggested here, flying under the radar is the way to go. My mate who had 20 years at the ATO seems to think they're usually not really interested in your average retiree. But he hasn't been at the ATO now for over 20 years. Though really it would be fairly easy to believe, again as mentioned already, that if you say you're a tax resident, you're a tax resident. Really a lot of this stuff is to do with the tax treaty they have with Thailand I believe. Anyway here is a YouTube channel that has a lot of good information, probably more from the position of getting rid of your Australian tax residency. But it's always worth understanding both sides to get good information about this incredibly complex situation. https://youtu.be/UwHkf7sLF7M But just to sum up from everything I've learnt from my time researching the only thing I have found that is concrete to determine your position is getting a ruling from the tax office. Not an exercise I'm interested in because I'm not confident of the result.
  3. Judging by your comments you must have been captain of your debating team in high school! ???? But just to clear a couple of things up. I make no claim (not sure why you used quotation marks here) asserting that I should "automatically" (You see here the correct use of quotation marks here, though it could be argued because you misspelt automatically that my quotation is incorrect) get a discount because somebody else received one. But rather if other people have received discounts it would likely show that stores maybe open to this. Also to say that the question makes no sense seems odd. Particularly as you appear to have been able to interpret the question I asked and answer it with your insightful suggestion! I would also note that other members have been able to seemingly easily interpret my question and provide worthwhile answers. Furthermore at no point did I assert that because someone else received a discount I would have the same entitlement. But as I already mentioned it would likely show that the stores are amiable to this type of practise. Anyway I look forward to your next post and hope it provides more interesting comments so we can continue our semantic jousting!
  4. Wish I'd thought of that. In fact we probably don't need this forum. We could just Google our questions and if we don't get a suitable answer we can just attempt whatever it is we're asking. Thanks for your valuable input.
  5. Perfect thanks for that. I did suspect as much with the highly fluctuating prices in the same stores. In one store I went to they had the promotional price of the fridge on the front and when I open the door to look inside the old promotion showing 5,000 baht cheaper was on the shelf! ????
  6. I'm looking at buying a new refrigerator. A big smart one in excess of about 40,000 b and I've actually seen the ticketed price in the same store vary 15,000b depending upon the promotion. I'm just wondering if anybody has had any success in negotiating the ticketed price of products. Particularly in Numchai Pattaya store, but I guess any store really. There are large retail stores in Australia that negotiate costs and it would seem given the Thai bartering ethos that it would be the same here but I was just wanting some confirmation. Thanks
  7. Unfortunately mine failed because overstay issue as I previously had on the old app. I'm hoping to do my extension before my next 90 day report and maybe that will solve the problem. ????
  8. Can I asked since you had a problem with the old system and you tried with the new system have you done an extension of stay? Cheers
  9. I did this yesterday at Jomtien. I had planned to push for an answer. But unfortunately it was super busy! I have never seen it that way before. So all I was able to do was get a casual inquiry away to which the pleasant young lady suggested that she hadn't seen this problem of rejection because of overstay before. Also they are now managing the 90-day reports outside, under a big canopy on the right-hand side in the carpark, and they did not require any paperwork apart from my passport.
  10. I'm not trying to manipulate anything. I'm simply asking if anybody has had any success in overcoming my specific problem regarding the overstay message.
  11. This Is my exact situation and I'm heading to Jomtien this afternoon with my email in hand! I'm not optimistic about my chances, but in the same breath I'm not a defeatist who will just throw his hands in the air and say it can't possibly be done. Though that may be the case.
  12. Very similar situation to me re the extension date. Maybe they are using some new data entry format and some have been included in the news system and the others have not. But just a complete guess. And all those that offer their opinion of how to do the 90-day report thank you. But as I'm in my 6th year I'm fairly coherent with the process.
  13. I think the important distinction here is this is not a failure of the app in a technical sense which has generally been the problem in the past and what is commonly reported on the forum. This seems to be a data entry issue as I am being recognised as overstay but I am not. The difference between the old mobile app and the new application in this specific use case is that the old mobile app recognised me as overstay straight away. The new application took 7 days to deny me for the same reason. Which in my mind seems odd as I would assume that a human decided this.
  14. Something is just occurred to me Can I ask you did you do your extension through an agent? I will have to check my records but I think my overstay problem on the app started after I did my visa extension through an agent.
  15. Yes the problem is it's suggesting I'm on overstay. Exactly the same as it did on the old mobile application. Like I mentioned I think there's some data entry problem at the immigration end. I have seen another board member post about the same issue. Again as I already mentioned probably relevant to the new passport. I'm really just trying to find who I can talk to to rectify the problem. Because I won't be leaving the country for another year at least and I would prefer to be able to use the new tool, which appears to be even easier than before, to do my reporting.
  16. Personally yes I was surprised. After some initial failures the website has worked flawlessly. Thanks for your advice but I'm not after tips on how to do a 90-day report I'm after help on solving a specific problem about me showing as overstay. I will simply go down to Chonburi immigration sometime this week and do my normal 90 day report. There seems to be a lot of negative feedback about online reporting for the wrong reasons imo. Sure if the app doesn't work or the website doesn't work it's relevant. But I have used it many times successfully in the past. It just appears to be some data entry that has failed which is causing an error. It does not appear to be an issue with the application.
  17. So super happy with the new app after the initial early failures, though I was surprised that it took so long to get a response, 7 days in total. But interestingly received a rejection email just now, on Sunday. Unfortunately it's for the same reason that the old app did not work for me, as it recognises me as an overstay. I'm fairly confident this is to do with my new passport in January 2020. I have read a bit on the forum about it as others have had the same problem and the only solution I have heard is to go and try and talk sweetly to them at immigration. Which of course I always do! ???? I'm just wondering if anybody has had any success getting around this issue? I have left the country on my current passport so it's difficult me to understand why I'm not in the system correctly. Anyway hoping somebody can help me out here.
  18. I have no technical knowledge but I would say that the system has become overloaded in some way. Probably worth having another go tomorrow on Monday or Friday.
  19. Cheers. I hadn't done this. But on your suggestion I have just gone into the settings and checked. There is no specific option for Wi-Fi but there is for location files and camera so I approved those. But still no success. But I take your broader point that the issue is probably at my end. But I'm no stranger to technology and there's certainly nothing springing to mind that could be the problem. Particularly as I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the app including clearing all local storage.
  20. No it was definitely a failure on the part of the app (see screenshot). I also tried reinstalling the app but same result.
  21. Probably about a year ago I had also but then I was unable to log in unless I changed to my mobile internet connection. I discovered this after a review I read on the Google Play store. Curious to know are you using an iPhone?
  22. Thanks for reposting. I'm curious did you need to use your phones internet connection rather than Wi-Fi to log in?
  23. This is exactly what I'm up against. That's perfect exactly what I was after. They actually listed the price from 500B on their services in Google maps. Thank you
  24. I have to submit an Australian statutory declaration and I was just wondering if anybody knows of anybody who Is qualified to witness this document and charges small amounts or does them for free in Pattaya. The requirements are really somebody of an official capacity like a bank officer doctor pharmacist etc witnessing my signature and providing their details. I tried to get some people (thais) to do something like this in the past and was met with complete reluctance. Nobody seemed willing to put their name to anything for what I assume was fear of some sort of repercussion. Thanks in advance
