  1. My Thai friend came over today and asked for help writing a letter for his 23 year old  niece that wants to visit California and improve her English ,

She will be staying at his house in California ,   and she thought it would be good to have a letter from him that he will be responsible for her,

She has been here once already and did not overstay ,

So can you give me pointers of what to include in this letter , and what NOT to include .

And no she does not plan on working here  or staying here ,

Does she need a return ticket ,

She does not have a place she plans on learning English , she will be taught by am American friend ,

is it better she signs up for an English school  ?

She does not plan on trouble coming over and getting thru US Immigration , but she wants this letter " Just in case"

    Any help appreciated

  2. when you are in your Limo  most places look like S-holes

But  what he said is true , he is just not going to sugar coat his words like professional  politicians ,   and he often speaks without thinking or caring what his words mean to others ,

its going to be a rocky 3 more years if  you worry about what he says or Tweets everyday !

  3. If she is Beautiful  and light skinned so that the "peasants" want to look like her  than maybe she can make some money ,

but if she is Dark skinned  and  just normal looking it will be hard ,  unless its a known name brand and advertised a lot

Look at the Facebook ads ,  The models do not look like most Thais so it works selling "Dreams"

  4. There are levels of Quality even with name brand stuff like Bosch etc , products in poorer countries are built to a price point ,

My friend from Switzerland  always brings European sold electric tools as they are much better ,

I doubt you would have much problem with your own used tools ,  if they were new in the box they may think they are for resale and want import duty

I'm a retired ophthalmologist (MD) who has worked with thousands of patients and many opticians (eyeglass people).  Just some pointers for consumers:......

    ......

Thanks for posting , are the Zenni etc glasses any better than the cheap reading glasses you buy off the rack at Walmart etc ?

    Cheers

  6. I always thought you needed to have native speakers around you to listen and learn.....

but that is "proper" language and now there is so much slang , shortcuts and OMGs   that its hard to learn by listening .....

the small amount of German I know goes away quickly once I am out of Europe ,  no reason to remember it until my next visit :)

I give credit to anyone who can pick up an new language in a year or 2

The skywalk will connect the BTS direct to the BITEC.

    I think it's s great project.

last time I went to BITEC , you took BTS to Bang Na ,  went to ground level walked on bad concrete a few 100 meters , thru a gate , down some stairs ,  and then up some stairs  to  a 1/2 KM walk to Bitec in a AirConditioned  hallway , some of it  moving walkway......it did take a long time........

hopefully this new walkway will keep you off the street level and let you connect to the long hallway to walk to BITEC.....

  8. read a lot of patents , most of what you are using is "prior art" and anyone can use it ,

so what makes your product unique ?

We thought a product we invented was unique , the US patent office sent us back prior art  from  1890s that was very close to our design ,   We did get a patent on a couple non important points , but I would never try and defend that in court.

If you have the chance , go to a US Patent office , there are smaller ones across the country ,

not sure if they still have them , but years ago they had paper copies of the front page of the patent you can look at ,

They are also on Google ,

look at an item like yours and then look at the prior art , follow that and look at that products prior art....on and on,

you will be amazed at all the neat things  with patents from 50-100 years ago .....

a patent just gives you the right to sue someone in court for infringement , you have to pay your lawyer ........

    Good luck........

What if someone worked from home and made 30k baht per month ?

many  thais  take a motocycle taxi from home to BTS  or the bus , then  from the BTS stop near work take another motorcycle taxi to work ,

repeat on the way home.......times 20-24 days a month work

plus even cheap eating at lunch 50 baht x 20 days , plus she is a girl  and needs to look good , so makeup, hair etc

30k a month for one person living like a Thai  is good money ,    hard to see how how a Thai girl  does that working from home.

  10. living in BKK is expensive ,  much of it spent just getting to work ,  and most people are sending money back home ,

15-20k is good money ,  that is what my friend pays his office workers (BKK) who have  been there for year

living beyond your means is normal

International Postal Union's discretion, with charitable tarification policies,  towards "developping nations"

But the low/free postage fairytale will soon end, as China is no longer considered at least by IPU standards, as a "developping nation"..

So better clutter up as much rubbish as one can from AliExpress while the party still lasts!!:welcomeani::post-4641-1156694572::hit-the-fan::guitar::cowboy:

do you have a link for this ?

I was told the "Host" country can charge what they want and the receiving country must accept it and deliver ,

yes somehow China has taken advantage of this

there is also bulk shipping price where it all goes in a bag and is charged a fee per KG  , I think each bag has to be sorted per country

I hate to see it go away as I buy a lot of small things from China !

  12. is ThaiPost still using Finn Air ?

and are they also using it for the USA ?

it seems packages are now going BKK - New york area US Customs - final destination

before it was much quicker when it went to the West Coast,

And can anyone confirm if the Post Office  shipping containers are sent from BKK airport daily , weekly or ????

when we send something to Japan its pretty quick :)

  13. Is there anything on the Web or  on YouTube in Thai for Speech Therapy ,

there are dozens of things for English , but I do not how to search in Thai ?

a lot of it is teaching the tongue to move to the correct position to make a sound  ,

there are drawings of this in English but I have not seen anything in Thai ,

Is there a Thai University that teaches Nurses  Speech Therapy ?

    Thanks for the info

  14. Hi

I am looking for  some nice rain gear ,  even a good material to have some sewn up ,

It needs to be breathable so you do not get sweaty in hot tropical  rain ,   which leaves the usual "plastic bag" look out :)

Maybe  2 styles ,  a long Trench coat that goes almost to your ankles , and a 2  piece  jacket and pants set.

They would go over your work clothes

There must be something out there ,  much of the worlds population  lives in  Hot and Rainy areas  and need to walk in the rain ,

At one time Gortex was the material  companies made rain gear out of ,  is there something better now ?

    Thanks for your ideas

PS:  even when I go to Europe where it rains a lot , I see most people  wearing plastic type rain gear , you would think they would buy better gear if available

Thanks for the heads up. The computer work is pretty basic. They will be updating names and address. If the resident is no longer there, they use two search sites to identify who is now living there, they input that new information into an oracle  data base. In the end that will be the key, qualified workers. I will be contacting some employment firms when Im on the ground in Thailand and actually showing them the scope of the work. If that's not a problem then Im good to go. I will also be meeting with this law firm in person before I move ahead as well. I'm not rushing this, want to take my time and make sure everything is pretty tight!

Did you try this with a Thai English speaker yet ?

How English is taught in Thailand  is you hear a word , you repeat the word , on and on

Hopefully your teacher is a native English speaker from the West ,

But they do not teach Phonics !    So how are your callers going to even get close to pronouncing the name of the person they  are trying to track down ?

With your connections it sounds like you have that side already set-up ,  but  I would  be concerned  with the level of English , and also  their English under pressure......

Why has the company not done this already in Manila ?

Good luck, I hope you can get past the problems  and get it to work....

  16. Just as a data pont :

one KG package sent BKK to California on April 5th arrived today May 2nd ,

This was EMS shipping ,  which went the long way around as US customs was in New York and not West Coast as before ,

So yes it was quicker than surface mail , but still a LONG time for an Ebay customer to wait

OHHH and we shipped from the BKK Airport Post Office thinking that would be quicker !
