    Anyone else come across her?

    Her? Only one?

Sorry, but such mother/baby begging or story telling is virtually everywhere.

Baby/child often not even related (rent a begging baby).

Both from Cambodia or other neighbor countries.

The "husband" is her "pimp"/"papasan" and will collect most of the begged money and drive off in his limousine.

    And not only in Thailand.

Last time I fell for such a story (need money for ticket) must have been in the 80s (in Germany). Germany nowadays flooded with beggars from south eastern Europe.

Did you live in a major city before before Bangkok?

I have no idea what date I joined the forum but you seem to do. Do you love me? Do you want to be me? why are you stalking me?

Allegedly here for 8 years and not knowing that every member can just click on your avatar to look up the profile with the join date?

You must have missed a lot or you tell us how many user names you have used over the years.

What time ? I never noticed any problem with our 3BB.

    ToT hit the jackpot.

Seems only their cable(s) ran along the collapsed bridges.

Other providers might have taken another route (just speculating).

The short summary also implies it was a "southern" problem.

No it was a nationwide for almost all international connections of ToT.

Connections to the south will likely connect down to Singapore, THE internet hub for South East Asia.

Chinese fossil fuel consumption is at it's peak and maybe the prevailing winds are bringing some of their smog over here.

Sorry, but fortunately that does not happen.

And the terrible smog is in northern China.

    About 3200 km / 2000 mi away!

Those winds would have passed by our area long before.

    Thanks heaven not!

China "winds" brings winter cold but not thick smog.

    Again: it's not smog!

I can't feel or see the smoke but the air quality the last couple days has gone downhill especially yesterday. Lots of people incl Thais coming down with coughs and colds

Sure, Thais get sick when temperatures drop to below 20 C (70 F).

Also the flu exists in Thailand too.

"coming down": do you refer to people coming from Isaan or the north where it is much cooler than in Pattaya?

I'm sure this would be hot news if it were actually happening. Anything on the MFA's own website?

VERY hot. Not only in Thaivisa.

Zero(!) news that I noticed so far.

(and I really read too much says my Thai wife)

A German guy (living on retirement extension) married his Thai girl friend in Banglamung (Pattaya) on September 30th, 2016.

Not a word about proof of funds.

He struggles yearly to get enough combined income/funds for his extension.

(it should be clear that funds are needed to live in Thailand based on marriage, that's an age old topic).

Zillions of reasons for rejection based on required documents/certificates/translations etc.

The last hurdle for the German was that he had to rush home to pick the receipt(!) for having paid for a stamp from the MFA.

Where (at which office) was that Italian guy rejected and no reason given?

What is his current status of staying in Thailand (visa, extension)?

Or did I get it completely wrong and he want to marry in Italy???

  7. What a crusade! :shock1:

I use AIS (prepaid) since a decade or more (on holiday and now as an expat).

    I live in the sticks.

It still has the best coverage upcountry/outside the centers.

(I have experienced True and dtac when fiddling with internet aircards in the past).

Domestic calls, international calls without noticeable problems.

SMS from banks (OTP) etc. without problems.

Internet is smooth and fast enough for streaming videos etc.

(I use it sporadically when on the road booking a respecting 3G package)

  8. The whole story is a paradigm (perfect and complete model) for the failure of German intelligence/security and the European "collaboration".

Collaboration: he is a dangerous violent criminal, we can't expel him to Tunisia? So just kick him over the border. No need to put him on a list or lock him up.

And as in all the repeated cases the same babble by politicians "we have to improve communicaton ... we have to apply existing laws, no need for tightening ... bla bla bla".

It's perfect promotion for the populists.

Die Welt and Tagesspiegel newspapers have both reported that the perp is one of Merkel's Migrants, either from Pakistan or Afghanistan.

Time for the progressive media to go into action:

    1. He was mentally ill

    2. This had nothing to do with Islam

    3. We must be more inclusive and welcoming

Latest updates say that the arrested is an Afghan national who entered Germany as a refugee.

The dead person/passenger is a Polish national.

What everyone might suspect has not been reported yet: that he was the authorized driver of the truck and has been killed beforehand.

The owner of the truck in Poland could not contact his driver since yesterday.

The OP implies simply rocking up to the local amphur to tie the knot but with out the correct paperwork and legal formalities needed  first the marriage will have no legal binding.

There will be no marriage at the district office without the paperwork.

    As simple as that.

Let's assume the OP is aware of that.

"Can two foreigners be legally married in Thailand?" -> "Yes".

  11. They can.

And don't think it's easy with the paperwork.

The "freedom to marry" documents and all that other stuff will cost you a lot of travel and translation expense.

    A simple Google:

    http://www.thethailandlife.com/married-thailand-diy-day

Don't hold me responsible for completeness/accuracy.

I can not swear on it, but aren't there even commercial agencies organizing that "marriage on the beach" ceremonies?
