The problem is many people that used to come here a lot are no longer coming even though they have never been denied or had trouble from immigration the constant crackdowns and hearing of other foreigners being denied entry has made many western frequent tourists choose better countries to spend their time and money in with no fear of being denied entry.

so what? why should you be worried whether tourists come or not?

I'll just deal with 5. Freedom of speech? That makes much of your rant hypocritical, because that same freedom of speech gives you the right to air your views, something you appear to resent others doing.

YOU do not have freedom of speech in Thailand, they have a little law here called "defamation", even the bloody Thais can't speak freely!!

And that is exactly why they resent us. They don't compare well, and they know it but of course would never admit it. The longer people stay in Thailand they more they see of the real Thailand and its people. They'd rather we were all two-week tourists, spending our year's savings and getting out before the rose-coloured glasses fall off.

    so why stay here then?

It's called income, seriously we still have the holier than thou people on here ???? I have spent more than 700000 baht in Thailand in the last 8 months, I don't have 400000 to put in the bank though as it all comes from pensions and salary from UK. I'm married to a lovely Thai lady, so by your reckoning I should leave her and go back to UK? WOW

Spending (as you state) B700,000 in 8 months equates to B87,500 per month or B1,050,000 per year, yet you state that you cannot put B400,000 together to enable you to live here legally!! Maybe you need to reassess your spending habits otherwise yes you probably should go back to the UK.

    Rubbish.

Hired cars in UK New Zealand using my Thai licence and no need for an IDP..

Both my self and my wife.

If a Thai moves to UK full time they have 6 months using the Thai licence then take the UK test.

Expat moving to Thailand gets 3 months with an IDP then gets a Thai licence.

If a Thai moves to UK full time they have 6 months using the Thai licence then take the UK test. ....Not correct and off-topic

Expat moving to Thailand gets 3 months with an IDP then gets a Thai licence......Do you just make it up as you go along?

IDP is valid for 1 year in any country that signed up to the Vienna Convention.

    Agree with you. However ...

Don't know about the rest of Europe, but UK requires those going to live abroad to give-up their UK licence. Of course, most don't - there are ways around it but, nonetheless, that's the official ruling.

As good as it sounds, your suggestion would mean that UK folks having only a Thai licence as a result of living in Thailand would be unable to drive during a holiday 'home'.

    absolute twaddle!!!!!!!!

So they still drive ONLY on a Thai driverslicense...they should be forced to do the European exams before being allowed to drive there. Why did they force me to spend 5000 euro on a driverslicense while a Thai can just buy one for 500 baht?

No they drive on an international driving permit as does everyone who legally drives in a country other than where their license is valid. Nobody forced you to do anything, it was your choice to go through the procedure to obtain your driving license. You need to get things in perspective here, we are not talking about your average som chai hiring a car in Europe these are money Thais and one would expect a bit more intelligent than most of their kin folk, how many times have you seen a car accident involving a Thai driver being reported in the western media?

Average of 76 trees per rai. Not 100.

Either way 40 baht or 100 baht is just outrageous.

That's what happens when an agriculture dept is run by Generals. And they are not even good at being Generals, let alone govt ministers...

I assume you mean outrageously cheap, the wife's family cut down their 30 year old trees last year and got 250 baht per tree.

Does anyone know exactly what incentives are on offer and how to claim them?

arongsak Jaisamut, director of the Rubber Authority of Thailand's Production Development Department told the Nikkei Asian Review on Wednesday that the government will offer farmers 4,000 baht per rai

Average of 100 trees per rai = B40 per tree.

The government also plans to spend an additional 3 billion baht to pay farmers to cut down rubbers trees covering an additional 300,000 rai, or 48,000 hectares, by the end of this year. However, that plan has yet to be approved by the Thai cabinet, according to an official at the Rubber Authority of Thailand.

So B3 billion divided by B30 million (300,000 rai x 100 trees) = B100 per tree or B10,000 per rai.

Thai maths syndrome strikes again!! LOL.

Don't know where you get it that you need 16Mb for HD streaming, but isn't that the same number Farangbox recommends, which you have been defending all along here? Wink wink nod nod.

Half of that 16Mbps is plenty for HD streaming.

Oh and by the way, since you consider Nperf a credible speedtest, take a look here. It get an even higher speed to UK as the package the TV member pays for. There are more examples from the fake results of Nperf in that thread.

Not defending anything, just telling it as it is. Depends on quality of HD resolution I have Mag 265 set at 1980x1080 which requires ideally 16Mbps you're obviously running at much lower resolution probably 720p. As for nperf I would not take seriously any comments that are posted on TV saying its results are fake, but rather take note of specialist website recommendations. Try doing some research rather than just following the pack on here.

Thank you. I just made the test after registering. Result down 8.9 MB/s, latency 213 ms. Latency seems to be OK. Anyway 8.5 MB is too low for streaming. Provider Farangbox states minimum should be 16 MB/s.

You only need 16Mbps for HD streaming, 6Mbps is fine for SD
